    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

God, the Elway revisionist history is the worst.

Elway played arguably the two worst SB games in history, then a couple of years later did absolutely nothing in an embarrassing performance in an AFC Championship game at Buffalo that the Bills tried to hand them on a silver platter (10-7 final).

Even in the first SB win, Elway was a 50 year old glorified game manager by that point, and did not play well at all. He had five shots at the SB, and never had a great game. His career TD/INT is 3/8 in the SB.

Nothing makes people's memories shorter than winning some RINGZ. Manning's career playoff numbers smoke Elway. His rating is 10 points higher, and people tear Manning apart for his low postseason QB rating.

You can be critical of Manning's playoff performance if you want, but enough of this Elway revisionist history bullshit. Dude choked in the playoffs on a consistent basis and doesn't have as many great playoff performances as "the guy who pisses down his leg".

Can we stop pretending Elway was some god like playoff performer?

IMO, you simply can't compare today's QBs to QBs of yesteryear because the rules are just so damn different.

          Except we can!

There are stats that normalize numbers based on the offensive environment of the era.

And even when adjusted for the increased offense, Manning absolutely smokes a guy like Elway so convincingly that the only way to formulate a pro argument for Elway against Manning is anecdotal fuzzy memory bullshit.

I'm going to attempt to explain this, but i'm probably wasting my time, since it's hard enough to get baseball fans to understand shit like this, and baseball fans compared to NFL fans in terms of sophistication is like comparing modern man to neanderthals.

100 is average. 110 would be 10% better than your peers. 90 would be 10% worse than your peers. The same as OPS+ or ERA+ in baseball.

We'll stick with the basics, but even the others don't look good for Elway, so let's quit while we're ahead:

          ELWAY
          Yards per Att: 104
          Comp%: 101
          TD%:102
          INT%: 107
          QB rating: 105

          Manning
          Yards per Attempt: 115
          Comp %: 120
          TD%: 120
          INT%: 108
          QB rating: 120

Again, these numbers are normalized so you can compare across eras. The work is done for you.

Manning smokes Elway in the regular season to the point it's a squash match, and he has better overall playoff numbers no matter what myths people tell you.

So if your argument is Elway > Manning, you are basing it on 2-5 in the Super Bowl vs 1-1 the Super Bowl. Let's be more sophisticated that that.

I am not arguing that Elway is greater than Manning, my argument is more Montana vs. Manning.

              Fair.

To me, Manning vs Elway isn't even close.

Absolutely agree. I suspect even Elway himself agrees.

                  Montana>Manning>Brady>Favre>Young>Marino>Brees>Eli>Elway.

In truth Elway is barely better than Big Ben. Time will tell the truth as his dick-riding-fans begin to forget the theatrics of it all. He was never the best QB in any season. Never started an All-Pro Game. The only SB's he won were after he got the worlds best RB at the time. And he was foreshadowed by most of the people on my list his entire career. And I'll debate this and win. Just accept now.

I haven't even gotten into the old guys Unitas, Baugh, Staubach, and I could even make a debate on Bradshaw if you want to lean on playoff/SB successes.

To me Elways magic was being on a team of mediocre talent and just owning defenses in late season games and in clutch situational spots. But even just that Marino Manning Montana did it better. Maybe it's the letter M. John Melway probably wins 5 superbowls.

Speaking of Eli and being blinded by the glare of rings, remember a couple of years ago when people were seriously debating Eli vs Peyton, and putting Eli in the HOF?

                          Good times, great memories.

Eli has 2 rings and has had a rocky road after getting them...reminds me of Kurt Warner....except he only had 1 ring.

I like how 1 guy mentioned elway and you go on a rant about elways playoff performances. Elway did not play well in the SB, but he did play extremely well in the playoffs and his come from behind record might be the best in the NFL.

but this isnt even about that. its about manning and how retards seem to think because he plays well in the regular season that he is the goat. He isnt. he puts up monster regular season numbers in a pass happy era. But he only got to 1 SB because he cant win the big games. And he cant beat New England.

being the goat is about regular season, post season, 4th quarter comebacks, SB wins. Only a few guys fit into that elite group. Montana, Brady, Bradshaw, and even Aikmen, although i wouldnt put him in the elite group...after that there are a greats like Manning, Farve, Elway, and a long list great QBs who can never be called the goat simply because they dont have the SB wins.

imo there is Montana....then brady.....then everyone else.

Eli Made clutch throws at the most important of moments for 2 Super Bowl wins and kept SF out of the SB for a year and did the thing his brother couldn't = beat Brady...While his brother is more a long term talent. Eli still carries a long term NFL legacy of superior moments in time compared to so many NFL QBs and will one day be in the hall of fame...but course his brother is still better

Eli isn't half the QB Warner was.

But hey, 2 vs 1! That's the kind of deep analysis we do around here.
