Enough is enough. Peyton Manning is the greatest QB of all time.

My point is a counterpoint to you saying... "it's all on him"
Clearly it's not as he has no control over what his defense or special teams do. It just so happened that on this game his defense gave up a record-tying performance and his special teams failed on what was one of the biggest plays of the game and probably the biggest momentum swing.
I'm not trying to say Manning is free of blame, he's not. I just can't stand football fans and their obsession with one-game hyperboles, where each game can swing a guy all over the place.Comment

Yeah, you're right Peyton sucks.
Let's throw out anything he's done in his other 194 starts and only focus on the 1%.Last edited by FedEx227; 02-08-2010, 12:36 PM.Comment

lol calm down
it's lame to sit there and make excuses about why he threw touchdown passes, that's empty criticism why is it relevant whether or not he was picking on a CB or that his WR got wide open?
And it's not like Manning would be a better QB had he attempted to throw another TD instead of calling a run play and letting Addai score.Comment

So Peyton is penalized for being smart enough to go after a DB that just came into the game and also getting Reggie Wayne open by making a playcall and adjustment at the line that created a mis-read by a safety?Last edited by FirstTimer; 02-08-2010, 12:36 PM.Comment

Until Manning can drastically improve his post-season play then he cannot be considered the GOAT.
Dan Marino was a great regular season QB, but everyone knows he's not Joe Montana for a reason. I understand that a QB isn't responsible for everything, but nobody remembers the defenses or special teams that Dan Marino played with, the only thing remembered is that Dan Marino never won a Super Bowl. Is it all Marino's fault? No, but that's how it goes down in the books.
With the game on the line, Manning failed to deliver. All his fault they lost the game? No, but he had a chance to win it. Joe Montana came through in the clutch and won Super Bowls by coming through with the Super Bowl on the line. Had he not come through it wouldn't have been all his fault, but he did and he is held in a much higher regard for having done so.Last edited by Tailback U; 02-08-2010, 12:43 PM.Comment

I agree, their offense was not that crisp. Wayne didn't look great and he was struggling to get any big plays out of his guys.

Give them a run of the mill QB that doesn't play the "field general" role.
A division winner? Probably not.
A playoff contender? That's a stretch.
Manning is the reason they are so good and he should be the reason they should win a superbowl. He shouldn't get them there and let his team do the rest cause that's only worked once in what...nine playoff runs?
They were head and shoulders above the Bears team and if it wasn't for Rex retardation they may not have come away with a W in that one.
All I'm saying is, if you want to talk about the GREATEST QUARTERBACK OF ALL TIME then he should do things equal, if not better than what other worthy candidates do.
In 2 attempts on the biggest stage of his life he's played worse than his brother, doug williams, jake delhomme and (arguably) trent fucking dilfer.
You can't honestly be the GOAT QB because of dominance throughout weeks 1-14 (Cause how often does he play or play hard in weeks 15-17?) and above average post season play.
Sorry but no.Comment

Yes he did good in making those reads, but again we're discussing the greatest of all time and I think just about any NFL QB could have made that Wayne read. There was nothing special about his 2 TD passes.....in two super bowls.Comment

I'm too young to have really ever watched Marino or Montana but I know based off just raw stats alone Montana was in a much better situation because he had a running game that outperformed Marino's on average in the playoffs, a defense that outperformed Marino's on average and he was throwing to Jerry Rice.
I don't know or care who was better between Montana and Marino but I do know Montana wouldn't wanted to have traded teams with Marino.Last edited by Bear Pand; 02-08-2010, 12:45 PM.Comment

All right, if Brett Favre isn't the GOAT, then his stats are lies, I guess.
Records he holds:
-Passing Attempts (career)
-Passes Completed (career)
-Passing Yards (career)
-Seasons with 3,000+ passing yards
-Games with 300+ passing yards (2nd all time)(career)
-Longest Pass (tied with others)
-Most seasons leading league in touchdowns (tied with others)
-Most consecutive seasons leading league in touchdowns (2nd)
-Most TD passes (career)
-Games with 4+ TD passes (2nd)(career)
-Games with 4+ TD passes (2nd)(season)
-Consecutive games with a TD pass (2nd)
-Interceptions thrown (career)
-Most consecutive games started (QB)
Pretty damn good if you ask me

Joe Montana was 16-7.
Manning also played with Marvin Harrison, who is arguably a top 5 WR of all time.
Like I said, you can point to the defenses or the hall of famers or whatever you want, but the bottom line is that Joe Montana came through in the clutch and won Super Bowls by doing so. Manning has had his chances and hasn't come through yet.
Manning is great, but he's not even close to the greatest of all time..yet.Comment

It wasn't so much to mean that as a detriment as to show that's all he's done in the Super bowl.

I don't think any NFL QB could have made that throw.Comment
