Redskins WR Malcolm Kelly (knee surgery) has yet to be cleared for participation in offseason workouts.

Unlike Devin Thomas, Kelly is eager to get to work but his knee won't allow it. While the 'Skins need Kelly as a physical presence opposite Santana Moss, his knee concerns aren't going away anytime soon

Redskins signed restricted free agent DT Anthony Montgomery to a one-year, $1.01 million contract.

Montgomery, 25, recorded two sacks and 23 tackles as a rotating backup for Kedric Goston last year. His snaps will go down behind Albert Haynesworth

Jason Campbell remains "unequivocal" in his desire to be a Redskin long term, despite their unwillingness to extend his contract.

"Hopefully I can do things so they can know I'm their guy," he said. Campbell seemed sure to get a long-term deal when the Skins started 6-2 last year, but that idea evaporated when the team collapsed around him down the stretch.

Redskins RG Randy Thomas (neck) is expected to be cleared for full-contact practices in training camp.

Thomas had surgery to repair a bulging disc in his neck early in January. The 33-year-old started all 16 games last year and will keep his first-team job

The Redskins are expected to open their backup QB position for competition in training camp.

Colt Brennan showed promise in his rookie preseason after recovering from hip surgery and incumbent Todd Collins is 37. Collins remains the favorite

Devin Thomas has reported for the Redskins' offseason program after missing the first few days of training.

Thomas, the No. 34 overall pick last year, said he was absent initially for personal reasons. The Michigan State product says it's "time for me to step up and do what I've got to do" after a lost rookie season. Ideally, he'll earn a starting job in camp and allow Antwaan Randle El to play the slot.

Phillip Daniels, whose contract was voided in February in a cost-cutting move, says he plans to rejoin his former team.

"We're working something out," he said. "I'll be a Redskin this year." He is expected to sign a one-year deal for the veteran minimum sometime next week. The 36-year-old, who is coming off ACL surgery, projects to play a reserve role with the team.

H.B. Blades would be the Redskins' starting strong-side linebacker if the season began today.

Blades has proven to be a versatile and valuable reserve, but he could be a big liability on the strong side. Bigger tight ends would be a mismatch for the 5'10/235-pounder in coverage and Blades isn't a run-stuffing linebacker

Redskins re-signed DE Phillip Daniels to a one-year contract for the veteran's minimum, according to the Washington Post.

Daniels is 36 and coming off a torn ACL, so the Skins shouldn't expect much explosiveness off the edge. He will mostly be asked to defend the run at left end with Renaldo Wynn, Chris Wilson, and possibly a rookie rotating in.

Albert Haynesworth pleaded not guilty Monday to misdemeanor traffic charges of reckless driving and driving with expired registration.

Haynesworth is free on $1,000 bond. He seems unlikely to face discipline considering the nature of the charges, although Haynesworth likely could benefit from some driving classes. He has a history of roadway miscues

Free agent OG Pete Kendall has received no interest on the market.

Kendall, who turns 36 in July, is willing to return to Washington but hasn't gotten a firm offer. He started all 16 games at left guard last season.

The Redskins are expected to employ a rotation of Chris Horton and Reed Doughty at strong safety this season.

This would limit the IDP potential of both. Horton is the better playmaker and run stopper, and should see the most snaps. He was burnt in coverage late last season, however, and could lose time to Doughty in the nickel set.

The NY Daily News confirms that the Jets are expected to pursue Jay Cutler.

Meanwhile, the Rock Hill Herald doesn't expect the Panthers to show interest, and Yahoo Sports is reporting that the Jaguars plan to be in the bidding. Profootballtalk has thrown out the Redskins as a sleeper.

Jay Cutler reportedly intended to show up for the Broncos' first minicamp April 17-19 despite not communicating with coach Josh McDaniels or owner Pat Bowlen.

Cutler reportedly was surprised by Bowlen's statement Tuesday after already shipping his car from Nashville to Denver. Of course, he wouldn't respond to Bowlen's requests to talk, so he can't be too shocked. Cutler texted Tuesday that "he's not talking about it."

Mike Lombardi of the National Football Post writes that he is confident Redskins owner Dan Snyder has already discussed Jay Cutler "in detail" with former Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan.

Lombardi doesn't think Denver would want Jason Campbell in a trade, but Snyder has pulled off big acquisitions with the odds seemingly against him before. Still, the Skins have only four draft picks. This will be a tough sell
