"Some league insiders" believe the Redskins' sudden heavy interest in USC QB Mark Sanchez is a smokescreen, according to Profootballtalk.com.

Reports of Washington's pursuit of Sanchez come from the Washington Post and SI.com's Peter King. The Skins typically are straightforward about interest in players. We're guessing that Dan Snyder is seriously considering a move up for Sanchez. Snyder already tried to trade Jason Campbell this offseason.

honestly, i'd rather use the pick on defensive side of the ball. I think we can live with Campbell, he's not god awful, he's just not spectacular

My hopes of Andre Smith falling to use is fading away. So I hope we go LB, or trade down and get a second pick. The only person I like for DE with the 13th pick is Orakpo and he want be there.

NFL Network's Steve Wyche reports that there is "chatter" the Jets would try to swing a trade for Jason Campbell on draft day if the Redskins move up to draft Matthew Stafford.

This is pretty much setting the stage for a potential three-team swap. The Skins are already short on picks and would likely have to dip into their 2010 draft class to move up the board. It could potentially also mean throwing Sanchez into the fire, which sounds foolish after only 16 college starts

Coach Jim Zorn stopped well short of committing to Jason Campbell as his starting quarterback for 2009 at the Redskins' pre-draft presser.

"Nothing is etched in stone," Zorn said. "And if there's any opportunities to better our football team, we want to talk to those guys." The Skins want to trade up for Mark Sanchez and there's no reason to think it's a smokescreen

The Redskins have entered long-term contract negotiations with OLB Rocky McIntosh, according to his agent.

Agent Drew Rosenhaus says McIntosh met with club officials early Thursday morning. Washington has under $6 million in cap space, but McIntosh is in a contract year. He'd still be risky to commit to because of chronic knee trouble

Free agent Kelley Washington will attend the Redskins' May minicamp on a tryout basis.

Washington, 29, drew light interest from the Bills and Jets in February, but has received none since. He's likely trying to earn a contract as a gunner

Bucs pro personnel director Doug Williams is a "big fan" of Jason Campbell, according to the St. Petersburg Times.

Tampa and Campbell are both the subject of QB trade rumors right now. An ex-Redskin himself, Williams may have gained some power when GM Bruce Allen was fired. It'd likely take a three-team deal to get Campbell to Tampa.

Jason Campbell's second-half drop-off last season is reportedly at the heart of the team's pursuit of USC QB Mark Sanchez.

Several members of the Redskins front office have lost faith in Campbell, as evidenced by their refusal to discuss a contract extension this offseason. If the 'Skins pull off a trade to draft Sanchez, Campbell would likely be dealt to the Vikings, Bucs, or Jets.

NFL Network's Steve Wyche reports that Jason Campbell will demand a trade if the Redskins draft USC QB Mark Sanchez.

He might not get a chance to demand it, as the Redskins are already planning on flipping him to the Vikings, Jets, or Bucs for a draft pick(s) if they can land Sanchez.

Redskins agreed to terms with P Hunter Smith on a one-year contract.

Smith finished tenth in net average last season and will be a significant upgrade on Ryan Plackemeier, who was released after a woeful season. The Colts will turn to Mike Dragosavic after claiming him off waivers from the Browns.

Redskins FB Mike Sellers is boycotting voluntary offseason workouts because he's unhappy with his contract.

Sellers signed a four-year, $4 million contract in 2007, but he has since changed agents to Drew Rosenhaus. After a 2008 Pro Bowl selection, he wants a raise. The Redskins have a mandatory minicamp next weekend, so we'll find out how serious Sellers is.

Redskins signed OT Mike Williams to a one-year contract.

The fourth overall pick in the 2002 draft hasn't played in three years. Though he's still just 29-years-old, Williams is a long-shot to contribute next season. The Buffalo News hears he was at 410 pounds during his most recent physical.

                              Redskins released P Dirk Johnson.

Johnson was no longer needed as veteran insurance after ex-Colt Hunter Smith signed. The journeyman may not get a shot this summer unless another team's punter gets injured.

Redskins owner Daniel Snyder says his team will not trade its 2010 first-round pick.

Snyder said he doesn't think it's a good idea to frequently deal No. 1 picks -- which must have been a recent epiphany. He could still trade up to No. 8 without parting with the 2010 first-rounder, but it may limit his ability to trade into the Top-5.
