Shanahan must think he can salvage any quarterback's career. I still wouldn't consider VY- he's proved he is not mature to handle himself and would be a disruption in Washington. After Haynesworth, we do not need a player like that.

I still think Grossman or Beck start the season as a starter. I think that Snyder is really going to give Allen and Shanahan time to get their system implemented (why else would a change in defense be approved) and this gives time to see what Beck can do, as well as give the Redskins another season in the 3-4 defense.

But of course. In all seriousness though, he need's a players coach. Shanahan is the exact opposite.

SI's Peter King believes free agent Rex Grossman will take the first snap of the 2011 season for the Redskins.
King appears to be making an educated guess, not reporting. It's interesting because speculation from local outlets has John Beck entering camp as the starter. Grossman did start three games for the Skins last year, winning in Jacksonville and narrowly losing to the Cowboys and Giants. The 2003 first-round pick averaged 280 yards per game in those starts while posting seven touchdowns against four interceptions.

The Redskins appear set to start Casey Rabach at center once again this season.
Rabach is coming off shoulder surgery and will turn 34 in September. Still, the Redskins didn't feel the need to draft a potential successor. Adding depth along the offensive line is a must for the Redskins in free agency.

Free agent LB Rocky McIntosh says he's "at peace" with his contract situation a year after expressing public disappointment that the Redskins didn't sign him to a long-term extension.
McIntosh has five accrued seasons, so he doesn't know if he'll be unrestricted or restricted. Whatever the case, he's not expected back in Washington. "I’m over the ‘mad’ part," said McIntosh, 28. "I was mad [last year]. But everything is cool and I’m at peace with everything and I’m going to take it one day at a time and see what happens."

Coach Mike Shanahan praised the late-season development of RG Will Montgomery and LG Kory Lichtensteiger when discussing the state of the offensive line in March.
Both players are undersized natural centers playing guard in Shanahan's zone-blocking scheme. Lichtensteiger, in particular, struggled in pass protection, but the duo proved capable in the ground game. The biggest problem spot up front is right tackle, with Jammal Brown reaching free agency.

Anthony Armstrong is approaching the offseason as if he has to "win a spot all over again" with the Redskins drafting three receivers.
"You can take it as a sign of disrespect," said Armstrong. "I use it as fuel, put it in my tank to make me work out harder in the morning, work out harder on the field." Armstrong figures to have the upper hand for a starting job after breaking out for 871 yards on 44 catches last season.

Citing league insiders, the Washington Post reports the Redskins are "high" on free agent DE Cullen Jenkins.
It goes without saying the interest is mutual. A basic tenet of Sports Agency 101 is ensuring the deep-pocketed Redskins are involved in any potential bidding war for a high-profile free agent. As a prototype 3-4 end, Jenkins certainly fits coordinator Jim Haslett's defense. The Redskins figure to have even greater interest in NT Aubrayo Franklin, who would fill a more pressing need.

There is a lot that could happen. We could have Grossman or Beck start, or anyone from Vince Young to Derek Anderson under center. Make no mistake about it- the Redskins probably won't compete next year, and will take it as a rebuilding year and take a quarterback next year in the draft. Shanny is also very high on Beck, so maybe that reclamation project works out- there is a high probability it doesnt but it could surprise us.

Skins need to add another center to push Rabach. He's ideal for the zone blocking system, but he's old and hurting. I am a little disappointed in the draft that we didn't add any offensive line depth, but we added it everywhere else.

Brown should be brought back in my mind, but I want to know where you got the information that there was late season development for Lichtensteiger. Guy was terrible since he stepped into the starting role.

Great to see that Armstrong has that attitude, but as of right now, he's the #1 receiver on the depth chart if Santana Moss does not return. He was third in the league in yards per reception, and it seemed that Armstrong always made the big catch when the Redskins needed it.

106.7 The Fan Washington reports that according to several sources, Redskins coach Mike Shanahan asked Donovan McNabb to wear a wrist band with the plays on it but McNabb refused.

According to the report, Redskins owner Dan Snyder, McNabb's agent Fletcher Smith, Bruce Allen, and Mike Shanahan went to dinner during Super Bowl week and at this point the topic came up. Shanahan said he tried to get McNabb to wear a wristband but he wouldn't. At that point owner Snyder went ballistic and said, "Are you ***** kidding me. Why did I hire you as head coach. I am paying you $7 million to coach the team. If he is on the team next year you are getting him to wear the wrist band."

Mike Jones should go back to covering the Wizards because he's an idiot if he things Lichensteiger improved at all. The dude was a turnstile the minute he stepped into the starting role and was a turnstile when the season ended.
