If they do, that's a good move on their part because it frees them up a lot in the next couple years while their window is still open, and not the other way around like contracts in the NFL normally work. Though I thought they were crying poor with this whole off-season situation where Brees, Colston and Carl Nicks were free agents. Brees and Colston are back, and while Nicks went to TB, they got the next best option in Ben Grubbs and he did not come cheap.

Packers should just get Rodgers done ASAP, so he can become the highest paid player in the league.Originally posted by Nick MangoldWes Welker is a great player. He's really taken advantage of watching film. If we don't keep a Spy on him, he could really open the Gate.Comment

40 mil guaranteed in his first year is insane.
Rotoworld:
7/13/2012: Signed a five-year, $100 million contract. The deal contains $40 million guaranteed -- a $37 million signing bonus and Brees' first-year base salary. 2012: $3 million, 2013: $10 million, 2014: $11 million, 2015: $19 million, 2016: $20 million, 2017: Free Agent
Originally posted by Rotoworld.comProfootballtalk.com reports Drew Brees' five-year, $100 million deal includes a $37 million signing bonus, and that Brees will count just $10.4 million against the cap this season.
It means Brees will count nearly $6 million less against the salary cap than he would have under the franchise tag. Brees' 2012 base salary is a measly $3 million, but he'll bring home a total of $40 million guaranteed. The full details of Brees' contract can be found at the link.Comment

Is there anyone that can explain the bold to me? How will he count less against the cap if he's receiving 40 mil in ONE season?Comment
