Phil Baroni has been nixed by Showtime brass as a possible opponent for Nick Diaz. Attempts to sign Takanori Gomi for the bout went unfulfilled and Jay Hieron has become the front runner to fill the spot.Liquidrob's Top 10 Fighters Rankings

Earlier this week MMAjunkie.com Radio conducted an interview with Strikeforce lightweight champion Josh Thomson in which we learned the fighter's lingering leg injury could cost him an Aug. 15 fight interim champ Gilbert Melendez.
Despite subsequent reports stating that Thomson (16-2) wouldn't be pulled from the card, a source close to the negotiations today told MMAjunkie.com he hasn't been medically cleared for the fight, and Melendez (15-2) will instead meet Mitsuhiro Ishida (18-5-1).
Strikeforce executive Mike Afromowitz has since confirmed the bout will remain a five-round title fight with Melendez's interim belt up for grabs.Comment

British fighter Paul Daley (21-8-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC) has reportedly signed a four-fight deal with the UFC and will join the organization's roster of welterweight fighters, according to Fighters Only online.
However, according to a subsequent report from AOL FanHouse, Daley's manager said the UFC is just one of multiple organizations with which the fighter is considering signing.
Daley had been slated to fight Jay Hieron at the Aug. 1 "Affliction: Trilogy" event before the event's cancellation last week.
EDIT: gomi reportedly declined the fightLast edited by clovett; 07-30-2009, 05:29 PM.Comment

When was Monson booked? I'm assuming he has to pull out due to having his visa stripped.
And who the fuck is Moise Rimbon? Anyone know anything about this guy that I can't get off his sherdog profile?Comment
