I'd be pretty upset at both of those moves, I really don't think they should trade Mesz because he had a VERY good season last year and the defense is aging, no need to trade one of their good young players.

Depends on what Meszaros gets us, and if we can get Babchuk for cheaper then I think it's a pretty good move. As for Jagr, idk, I rather see us go after Erik Cole, but seeing a JVR-G-Jagr line wouldn't make me mad, it would actually be sticking it to Pittsburgh a little, so I kind of like it.

Pittsburgh said they have withdrawn their 1 year, 2 million dollar offer to Jagr. Jagr between Detroit, Montreal and Flyers now.
They pulled out of the Jagr sweepstakes because they are very close to a deal with Tyler Kennedy.

Flyers steal Max Talbot away from Penguins- five years, $9 milliomn

The Flyers have also inked Max Talbot to a five year deal worth $9 Million.

The 27-year-old forward was drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 8th round, 234th overall in the 2002 NHL entry draft.

He has played his entire career for the Penguins, last season he had 21 points and a career high 66 penalty minutes.

Talbot captured the Stanley Cup with Pittsburgh in 2009.

Yes, and this is coming from a Caps fan. I'm surprised a team would give up a first for Varlamov, considering he may move to the KHL. The other way this is steep is that he battled some nagging injuries this season, and my worry is that he has durability issues.

If he can stay healthy, Varlamov can be a #1 goaltender. But, the Caps can afford to let him go because we have Neuvirth and Holtby waiting in the wings.

I'm okay with the Talbot move, the Flyers really needed another PK guy and he fills that role. Apparently they also signed Andreas Lilja who will be the #6 defenseman and they just traded Versteeg to Flordia for 2nd and 3rd round picks.

They needed a guy who is great on the penalty kill, and Talbot was it. The years might be too much, but I think making under $2 million a year is good for him.

He wasn't really that great at anything last season tbh.

Flyers/Pens games just got a lot more interesting though. Definitely going to get tickets when they come to Consol.

I plan to get a couple write-ups out tonight to sum up the first day of free agency, but I just want to make one comment right now before I head out to dinner- we all know there wasn't much quality, but teams are making mistakes by overpaying solid players. Yes it is a weak class, yes the salary cap increased, but that doesn't excuse poor decision making.

Blackhawks have 20 players signed, only have to resign Campoli, Frolik, and Stallberg (if they even will) and we have 7.8M in cap room. Hopefully we can pull off a trade and get a bigger name player. That'd be sickk.
