2011 NHL Free Agency

I love how people always complain about their team overspending in free agency...well duh that's going to happen, you HAVE to make the player a better deal or you won't sign him and there will always be another team driving up the price.

Brad Richards is definitely gonna be a Ranger. Apparently he told the Rangers they have last shot ... all they have to do is match the best offer.
If Richards had any guts, he'd sign with Toronto and see if he could be the guy to turn that organization around.
I suspect if anyone but Ron Wilson was coach, he would have.

Around $300million dollars worth of contracts were signed today. Still some big fish out there as well.
 
Hard to say. He didn't resign with Pittsburgh, but he also didn't sign with New York or Washington. I think they will cheer him because he was a big part of the team. I just lol @ the flyers for paying him that much money.

I don't think it's that big a deal. It's only one year and Jagr will produce.
 
I know it is one year, but the team is already strapped for cash, and if Jagr doesn't produce, well then what. You have a $3.3M drain on cap sitting there doing nothing. Kind of like what Zherdev.

Jagr will produce. He's a hall of fame player. He could produce in his sleep.

The only difference is that Lavy never wanted Zherdev on this team. Zherdev put up 16 goals last year with being in and out of the lineup, if he got to start every night I think he could of put up 25-30 goals. I'm sure because of the accolades Jagr has, Lavy will have to play him every night even if he doesn't really like him. Jagr will need to put up around 50 points to make up for losing Leino, with being on either of the top two lines he has the chance to do just that. I don't really like that they overpaid for him, but I rather have him at 3.3 million for one year then over paying Leino for six years.

I guarantee Jagr will get 70 points minimum. Even at 39, he's a world-class player.

That's really pushing it, he didn't even do that in the KHL. If he can put up 20-25 goals, 30 assists, I would be extremely happy.

Yeah but it's better than paying Leino $4.5 mil, he only scored FIFTY points last season. It's what I was saying earlier, no matter what sport it is if you sign someone in free agency you're going to overpay. The Flyers already have $4 million left (which I'm sure they'll use some of) then Jagr's $3.3 mil comes off the books next year when they need to re-sign JVR.

Yeah, in the KHL. KHL is not the NHL in terms of talent. They have some good players, but it my opinion, don't come close to the NHL. They are a step above the european super leagues, and I honestly believe the real reason they get so much press is because of a) all the jump-shippers and b) Russia is like #3 or so in hockey.

I don't want to sound like a Jagr hater, I just believe what people think he can bring to a team right now is so inflated. He is 39 years old, and yes, he was a point per game player in the K (I addressed the K) and he could very well turn into a great player once again, but I just feel the NHL has changed so much since he left that it is going to take him some time to get back into step with it. I think he'll end around 40-50 points depending on the line they put him on.
 
I was talking about Leino...trying to say that getting Jagr for 1 mil less and for only 1 year is a better deal for the Flyers than what Leino would've cost.
