Duncan isn't held to the standard of "Potentially the best player of all time". It's a little different being compared to the Robinsons, Ewings, Malones, Barkleys, Pettits, etc....than being compared to Jordan.

I know this but the point remains the same.

Both stars didn't spread their stats out over the whole game. Lebron's team won and hisgame is being diminished while Duncan's team lost and he is getting praise.

This is actually funny to me. Duncan dominated in the first half. Yet in the 2nd half, had 5 total points. Not one word is being said about his "disappearing" in the 2nd half. His game is actually being talked about in a positive way, and rightfully so, even though they lost and he had a bad 2nd half.

Yet Lebron leads his team back and they pull out a win and HE is being scrutinized because he didn't spread his greatness out equally enough?

My question would be since when does a player who is potentially the greatest have to make every shot or play in the biggest moments of every single biggest game? I understand the narrative that Jordan was that guy, but everyone knows this isn't the case.

Also, this is why I get annoyed by the "clutch" argument, because it is forever sliding based on a person's needs.

Lebron had a good game, but he played like absolute dog shit for most of it and dug himself out of a hole. Kudos to him but this wasn't an all around spectacular performance by Lebron.

Which speaks volumes to just how supremely talented he is, and as a result how unrealistic the expectations for him truly are. Even in a game where he did indeed struggle mightily early on.. he still finished with 32 points and registered another triple double. Even though he had a couple bad turnovers down the stretch he also hit the second biggest shot of regulation by drilling a 3 to cut the lead to 2 and eventually pave the way for Ray Allen to hit his game-tying 3.

Posts like this are ridiculous though.. I remember many games where Jordan didn't get things going until the 4th - then eventually found his way and BURIED the opposition. Ditto Kobe. Ditto many greats in all sports.

If the Heat lost last night everyone would be talking about how terrible those last 2 turnovers and final shots Lebron took were and how he disappeared again. But he won, and to the victor goes the spoils so everyone forgives and forgets.

Breaking news: LeBron could score 80 points in Game 7 and if the Heat still lose every critic or person who still doesn't like LeBron (all because he had a TV special 3 years ago to announce he was running away from the abyss that is Cleveland..) would blame LeBron for that happening.

There were people blaming LeBron for the Game 3 loss by 36.. ignoring the fact that even if LeBron scores 50 points, they still lose. The man can't win. Clearly. As evidenced by your post as you're obsessing over his two turnovers and not the fact he basically rallied the Heat from down 13 in the 4th to even be in the position to have a shot to win.

Never said Lebron played like shit for the entire game, in fact never said Lebron had anything less than a good game. But the fact remains, Lebron played like shit for most of the game and had 1 good 8 minute run then continued to play like shit for the rest of regulation/overtime. Duncan had a spectacular 1st half, a good 3rd quarter and then completely disappeared in the 4th. In other words Duncan plays good-great for 75% of the game, Lebron plays great for 15% of the game yet Lebrons game is somehow better in the eyes of every major sports analyst. I'm not gonna call Lebrons performance spectacular when he had an EIGHT minute stretch of greatness.


For the record, he didnt even hit Jordan's CAREER playoff scoring average :shifty:

Once LeBron backed down Leonard out of that dead ball like he wasn't even there I knew the game was over. Pop made some mistakes that cost his team big time last night, and we don't usually see that.

Some really bad officiating last night though, at least at the most crucial points of the game..

LeBron goes spinning totally out of control and trips over his own feet while hitting Duncan square in the jaw with an elbow and he goes to the line.

To have no call, one way or the other, on the Ginobili thing in OT late was shameful shit.

Stopping the game to review an obvious 3 by Ray Allen and give the Spurs a TO they didn't have was awful. What exactly is the sideline ref watching at that point other than the shooter's feet?

I thought Bosh fouled Green at the end too but at least that one COULD have been too close to call, especially for that situation in the game.

This is why in the closing seconds you see players taking jumpshots as opposed to attacking the rim, because they know they will not get the call. They rarely if ever make those types of calls in the closing seconds. This is why in the closing seconds you see players taking jumpshots as opposed to attacking the rim, because they know they will not get the call. Either way, like NAHSTE said, it wasn't as basketball play. If you don't think the contact warranted a foul then call the travel.

And I didn't even say the refs cost the Spurs the game or anything like that, just that it marred an excellent game to see so many officiating gaffes late.

Ginobili play happened with about 4 seconds left. And not calling anything was the proper move, if anything should have been called it was Manu walking from the free throw line to just under the basket.

The NBA says Tim Duncan should not have been allowed back on the floor for the Spurs' final possession of regulation in Tuesday's Game 6.
Gregg Popovich subbed Duncan out on the prior possession for defensive reasons, which is another discussion entirely. After Ray Allen hit a 3-pointer to tie the game, Popovich put Duncan back on the floor while the referees reviewed the play. Duncan eventually inbounded the play to Tony Parker, who eventually ended regulation with an airball on a fadeaway runner. The problem is the Spurs didn't have timeout and the NBA ruled today that Duncan shouldn't have been allowed back on the court. If Parker had made that shot, there likely would've been utter chaos, including a formal protest by the Heat. The teams may have even needed to replay that possession with 5.2 seconds left on the clock and Duncan off the court at some point Wednesday. So, in the end, let's just be happy Parker missed that shot and we don't have to process all the absurd possibilities that would've resulted had he made it.

Wow, can you imagine if this had happened? Might've been the biggest blunder in sports history had they had to replay the last possession of the game like that.

Curious as to who said this was a top ten playoff game by a player in NBA history. 2-5 with a HR is a great performance in any baseball game, just as Lebron's performance(and even moreso) was great in any basketball game.
