Position Battle Winners and Final Roster Movements Announced.

Backup Quartback | Fitzpatrick named backup
-Ryan Fitzpatrick will be the number two QB while rookie Hunter Cantwell will serve as the team's emergency QB. Despite a strong preseason, the Buffalo coaching staff would like to give Cantwell time to learn and get comfortable with the system.

WR Justin Jenkins Released
-The Bills have waived third year receiver Justin Jenkins (61) after he failed to beat out James Hardy for the fifth wide receiver spot on the roster.

TE Derek Schouman Released
-Bills' TE Derek Schouman (66) was released following a preseason in which he failed to even see the field. The coaching staff cited the quick development of rookie TE Shawn Nelson as the reason for the lack of playing time.

Starting TE | Rookie Nelson to Start
-Rookie TE Shawn Nelson beat out incumbent Derek Fine to secure the starting TE role heading into the regular season.

Starting LE | Kelsay Holds on to Keep Job
-Six year veteran Chris Kelsay will be the starter heading into the season following beating out first round pick Aaron Maybin during the preseason. Maybin will serve as the primary backup to both defensive end positions.

Second DT | Former First Round Pick McCargo Retakes Starting Job
-In perhaps the biggest surprise of the preseason former first round pick John McCargo, previously labelled a bust, took back his job in strong fashion. He outplayed incumbent Kyle Williams through every game.

More Cuts Expected as Players Return from Injury
-Some players remain long shots to make the team as further cuts will be made as players return from injury.

**Editors Note: The up to date active (48 man) roster/depth chart has been updated on the front page as well as the inactive list. Please see franchise rules as to how the regular season roster will be handled.

Whats with all the fumbles? And the injury bug is hitting you hard!

Thanks for checking in man! The injuries have just been absurd this season I have never seen anything like it and I haven't altered my injury slider or anything from the one I have used in other chises. Needless to say I will be looking for a new training staff in the offseason. The fumbles I'm afraid to say are due to me being down to my third string running back. Marshawn cannot return soon enough. It could be a long season.

Patriots and Bills Square Off to Do Battle on First Monday Night Game of the Season
tom-brady-2009-10-23-12-17-23.jpg
Patriots QB Tom Brady will take the field for the first time after undergoing season ending knee surgery in 2008

Injury Report (Players Not Playing)

Buffalo Bills
-LG Andy Levitre (76) (Complete ACL Tear)
-HB Fred Jackson (77) (Broken Collarbone)
-CB Leodis McKelvin (78) (Broken Collarbone)
-SS Donte Whitner (84) (Broken Kneecap)

New England Patriots
-Tully Banta-Cain (65) (Torn Quadricep)
-Ryan O'Callaghan (65) (Herniated Disk)
-Mark LeVoir (65) (Fractured Foot)
-Stephen Neal (86) (Herniated Disk)
-Le Kevin Smith (50) (Dislocated Hip)

3 Key Matchups to Watch

1) Bills Pass Defense vs. Patriots Pass Offense: Edge Patriots

2) Bills Run Offense vs. New England Defense: Edge: Patriots

3) Randy Moss vs. Terrence McGee: Edge: Moss

Prediction:
The New England offense is going to simply be too much for this lackluster Bills defense. The Bills secondary is banged up badly missing their starting strong safety and corner. They have been shredded all preseason by some teams with fairly lackluster passing games. I see no way they can contain Welker and Moss. This one could get ugly and it could get ugly quickly Patriots win 38-10.

Patriots Roll Over Bills in Brady's Debut Back

Patriots WR Randy Moss beats double coverage to catch a third quarter touchdown.

AP Boston- Any worries about Tom Brady’s health were quelled today as the Patriots crushed the Bills 39-16 on Monday night football. Brady looked to be in midseason form as he hooked up with Welker and Moss repeatedly on his way to a 302 yard, 4 touchdown passing performance. The Bills defense was helpless to contain the explosive receivers of the Patriots. Patriots WR Randy Moss totaled 140 yards receiving and hauled in three touchdown passes. Moss continually beat double teams as he streaked by Bills CB Terrence McGee. McGee would later leave with a dislocated elbow which will keep him out of next week's contest at least. With the constant threat of Moss, Patriots WR Wes Welker was able to find lots of space in the short passing game and recorded just over 100 yards on 14 receptions. Even with the pass first mentality of the Patriots offense, RB Laurence Maroney was able to add a respectable 85 yards on the ground.

Buffalo looked to be in this game following a safety by DT John McCargo. The Bills drove down the field on the ensuing possession and RB Rudi Johnson punched it in from one yard out to give the Bills a 9-7 lead. It would be all Patriots after that as Brady would continue to find Welker and hooked up with Moss on a couple long scores. The Bills offense was abysmal as RB Dominic Rhodes could find almost no room to work with and the Patriots defense did a great job stuffing any attempts the Bills tried to make to get him the ball in space. Almost all of Trent Edwards’s passing yards came on a screen pass to newly acquired Terrell Owens who would break 3 tackles and run 80 yards on his way to a score. By that time though the game was already lost. Owens was unavailable for comment following the loss. The Patriots (1-0) will travel to New York next week to take on the Jets (0-1). The Bills (0-1) will head home to take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-1).

Game of the Week
In perhaps the biggest upset of week one the Jacksonville Jaguars beat the Indianapolis Colts 38-37. Peyton Manning had a decent game throwing for 287 yards and 3 TD's. However, his three interceptions proved costly as the Jaguars were able to capitalize. Maurice Jones-Drew rushed for 125 yards in his first game as being the primary back in Jacksonville.

That wasn't even close, Brady just turned you into some second rate team. What is Rhodes speed? Like 85 right?

Tell me about it. That game was just abysmal. I tried everything I knew to stop Moss I slid coverages, even doubled him and he would just breeze by my corner and safety while Brady lobbed it. Rhodes's speed is an 84. We don't really have any backs with breakaway speed. Lynch has an 87 speed but that's the fastest.

3 Key Matchups to Watch

1)Antonio Bryant vs. Bills Secondary: Edge: Bryant

2)Owens vs. Barber: Edge: Owens

3)Rhodes vs. Bucs Defense: Edge: Even

Prediction:
This will be a much different game than the Monday night game that saw the Bills get run out of the building. Leftwich is not Brady. However, the Bills are once again without key starters in the secondary, with both starting corners out. They get Whitner back though and that might be enough to lift the defense. If the Bills can find their running game and not get into a shootout I think they sneak away with this win. Bills win this one 27-21.

Parrish Comes Up Huge in Overtime Thriller

Bills WR/KR Roscoe Parrish scores late in the 4th quarter to take the lead.

AP Buffalo- The Buffalo Bills got back into the win column today after pulling out an overtime thriller 33-27 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The game went back and forth the entire day as each team struggled to pull ahead. The Bills would draw first blood half way into the first quarter on a field goal from Rian Lindell. The Buccaneers were quickly able to respond as Bucs QB Byron Leftwich found HB Earnest Graham all alone in the flats who scampered in for a touchdown. The Bills would regain the lead just before the end of the first quarter on a toss play where Dominic Rhodes was able to break loose for a 24 yard score. Tampa Bay drove right down the field and was about to answer before Bills rookie safety, Jairus Byrd picked off a wayward Leftwich pass and returned it 97 yards for the score. This marks the first interception in Byrd’s very young career.

“I just saw Byron looking into the flats and jumped it. As I was running I thought Winslow was right on my tail. I didn’t think I’d make it for a second there man.” - Jairus Byrd.

Tampa Bay took a 24-20 lead midway through the fourth quarter after Leftwich found Dexter Jackson who was manned up against a linebacker. The situation began to look dire as the Bills offense once again sputtered on the ensuing possession. The defense held, however, and Fitzpatrick and the Bills got the ball back with just over two minutes remaining. Edwards had been knocked out earlier in the second half after sustaining a shoulder strain. He will be available next week, as the injury is believed to be mild. Fitzpatrick managed to lead the Bills through two fourth down conversions and down to the Tampa Bay three yard line. On third and goal with 43 seconds remaining, KR specialist Roscoe Parrish beat his man to the corner of the end zone and hung on for the go ahead score.

Ralph Wilson stadium roared as the defense trotted on to attempt to hold the Tampa Bay offense, who had all their timeouts. However, Leftwich once again found WR Dexter Jackson covered by a linebacker and was able to pull the Bucs within field goal range. PK Matt Bryant hit a 43 yard field goal as time expired to send the game into overtime.

After winning the coin toss, the Bills were able to pull out one last big play as Roscoe Parrish returned the kickoff 95 yards and the winning score.

“It was magical man. I saw the hole and I just knew if I could beat the one defender to it I could grab the corner and be gone. I just want to thank my teammates and the city of Buffalo, this is one I will never forget. “ – Roscoe Parrish

The Bills will stay at home next week to face the undefeated New Orleans Saints (2-0) while Tampa Bay will take on the New York Giants (0-1-1)

Game of the Week
In one of the rarest occurrences in the NFL the New York Giants and the Dallas Cowboys battled to a 17-17 tie this week. HB Felix Jones for the Cowboys, who was filling in for an injured Marion Barber could only muster 42 yards on the ground. Romo tossed two TD's in the contest. On the Giants side of the ball Brandon Jacobs was the workhorse rushing 28 times for 137 yards on the ground.

Good to see you back on track with that win over Tampa Bay, it was also good to see the "not" so well known Bills players making big plays for you.

1)Drew Brees vs. Bills Secondary: Edge: Brees

2)Terrell Owens vs. Malcom Jenkins: Edge: Owens

3)Rhodes vs. Saints Front Seven: Edge: Even

Prediction:
The last thing you want to face when your defense is banged up and missing your two starting cornerbacks is the number one passing offense in the league. Drew Brees has all the weapons around him and certainly enough wide receivers to absolutely demolish the Bills secondary. The Bills do not have the firepower on offense necessary to keep up with the arsenal the Saints are bringing in. The Saints are simply faster. I think this one will follow the suit of the Patriots game. Saints win 42-7.

It was also nice to see P-Willy up on the players of the week :)

Definitely a huge win for us. I was nervous for a second there that we'd come all that way to lose it in overtime. The pass defense is still pretty suspect which worries me since we got Drew Brees in this next game.

Saints QB Drew Brees Surveys the Defense in the rain at Ralph Wilson Stadium.

AP Buffalo- For one half of football it looked like the impossible might happen on a rainy day at Ralph Wilson stadium as the Bills looked to steal a game from the Saints. The Saints, who are picked by many analysts to be the best of the NFC, went into the half trailing the Bills by a score of 10-7. The Saints started the scoring early behind the arm of QB Drew Brees. Brees drove the Saints offense deep into Bills territory on the opening possession before connecting with TE Jeremy Shockey on a 30 yd touchdown. The second quarter, however would be all Bills, as the defense stiffened to keep Brees in check. Late in the second quarter, Buffalo WR Terrell Owens took a slant pattern to the house after spinning out of the clutches of Saints CB Randall Gay.

The Bills offense hit a brick wall in the second half as the Saints defense was all over QB Trent Edwards. The Bills offensive line surrendered four sacks as Edwards began to look flustered, missing wide open receivers and throwing an interception to veteran FS Darren Sharper. The Saints offense took advantage of the tired Bills defense scoring 21 unanswered points, taking an insurmountable lead. The Bills offense continued going three and out putting their defense in difficult situations. WR Josh Reed scored a late fourth quarter touchdown but by that time it was too little too late. The Saints will take their perfect record back home to face the lowly New York Jets (0-3). The Bills will travel to Miami to take on their division rivals the Miami Dolphins (1-2) in a battle for second place in the AFC East.

Game of the Week
The Atlanta Falcons handed the New England Patriots their first loss of the season in a 17-3 win. Atalnta completely dominated this game. Patriots QB Tom Brady was only able to play half the game following a mild injury. He is not expected to miss much time though. QB Matt Ryan and HB Michael Turner each contributed a score for Atlanta. The Falcons desperately needed this win to keep pace with New Orleans and Carolina in the NFC South race.

2)Marshawn Lynch vs. Joey Porter: Edge: Porter

3)Terrence McGee vs. Davone Bess: Edge: McGee

Prediction:
The Bills renew their classic AFC east rivalry this Sunday. The game looks to be very evenly matched. The big storyline, of course, is the return of pro bowl running back Marshawn Lynch for the Bills, who just finished up a three game suspension. On the other side of the ball, the dual headed threat of Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams will look to run wild over the Bills porous defense who is ranked dead last in points allowed. I think it will take Lynch at least a game or two to brush off the dust. Miami has too many weapons and the Bills cannot stop them all. This one will be close but Miami pulls out the win 28-24.
