Some time, so I took a look at the Jets playoff history...
The New York Jets franchise traces back to 1960 when they were known as the Titans in the AFL.
From 1960 to 1967, the highest win total they had was 8 (14-game regular seasons) and they never reached the playoffs.
In 1968, they won 11 games and famously beat the Baltimore Colts in the 3rd Super Bowl. The next season, they won 10 games but were bounced in the divisional round by the Chiefs.
From 1970 (when they joined the NFL) to 1980, the Jets largest single season win total was 8 (when the # of games was increased to 16) in 1978.
The Jets made their next playoff appearance in 1981 following a 10 win season and they lost in the first round of the playoffs to the Bills. The next season was a shortened season (labor shit) and the Jets finished 6-3, made the playoffs, won two games on the road (beat Bengals and Raiders) before losing in the conference championship to the Dolphins.
The Jets went 7-9 each of the next two seasons before finishing 11-5 in 1985. They lost in the first round to the Patriots. In 1986, they won 10 games, beat the Chiefs in the first round but lost to the Browns on the road in OT in the divisional round.
Over the next 11 seasons, their highest win total was 9 games in a single season (although they did not make the playoffs in 1997) with one playoff birth (1991, 8-8). They lost to the Oilers in the wild card round.
Then came the 1998 Bill Parcells-led season when they went 12-4. They beat the Jaguars in the divisional round and after leading at the half, they lost to John Elway's Broncos in the championship game. The next season they finished 8-8 and missed the playoffs. He stepped down as coach, wanted Bellichick to take over but he infamously resigned in a public press conference and went to New England (who gave first round picks to the Jets).
In 2000, the Jets finished 9-7 but missed the playoffs. Herm Edwards was hired and appeared to have them on the right track. In 2001 they finished 10-6 but lost to the Oakland Raiders in the first round. In 2002, they finished 9-7, won the division, beat the Colts in the first round but again lost to Oakland in the next round.
Over the next three seasons under Edwards, the Jets made the playoffs once (in 2004) with a 10 win season. They beat the Chargers in OT on Wild Card Sunday but lost to the Steelers in OT in the divisional round.
In 2006, Eric Mangini was hired and took the Jets to the playoffs in his first year where they were beaten by the Patriots in the first round. That was the final year they made the playoffs until Rex Ryan was hired in 2009.
Of course, they beat Cincinnati and San Diego in the first two rounds before losing to Peyton Manning's Colts in the conference championship.
Their overall record in Conference Championships is 1-3.
