I think all 4 remaining teams are "overrated" by traditional standards. And I also think that overrated teams can beat superior teams too. It's just the fickle nature of today's NFL.
Really?
The Packers are 2nd in sacks, 2nd in INTs, 2nd in points allowed (15 ppg) and 5th in yards allowed per game to go along with that offense. Basically they have one of the top defenses in the league, maybe a top 2-4 D and an offense that puts up 24 ppg and generates 358 total yards per. On top of that they are very well coached and disciplined with the 3rd fewest penalty yards on the year, and their 3rd down conversion rate is 41.5% which is top 10 as well. They belong in the NFC Championship and I have no doubts about that. If it weren't for some key injuries problems this season the Packers might have taken the division no sweat.
The Bears I don't know how they did it with what I think is a below average offense, but they do have a top 5 D. #4 D in ppg and #2 in run D. Personally I think the only team anybody could say is overrated would be this team. But they found ways to win and hey I credit them for that. They did pull together a couple of win streaks, I don't know how they took that division. The ball must have bounced right or caught some teams sleeping or something...but they have a good D and their offense is good enough to win games with that D...so yeah. I think the Bears are the only overrated team left in the playoffs.
The Jets have the 6th best D for points allowed, 3rd best run D in the league, 3rd best for tatal yards allowed, 8th on sacks with 40, and although they don't nearly as many picks as the Steelers and Packers they are up there with them in passes defended. Look on offense they are the 4th best rushing attack in the league, and they score 23 points per game which is above average. They have some good WR's and an upstart QB. And on top of that they are playing on high right now, it's as if destiny has intervened, and that goes a long long way when you have team unity and your coach can get the entire locker room to believe.
The Steelers were considered the NFL's best team by most experts in America over the first half of the season, at least 8 to 10 weeks. Only lost 4 games this year all to teams who were contenders. Ravens (without Big Ben), Jets, Pats, and Saints, again all contenders. Best D in the league, Fewest points allowed, most sacks, fewest rush yards allowed with just 62. 62 rush yards per game...You now hard that is? Thats the fewest rush yards allows this decade outside of Minnesota in '06, with 18 more sacks and allowing 6 fewer points per game than the Vikes did that year. I don't hear anybody talking about how this Steelers defense might just be the best D they've had since the 70's, but it's true. That's no homer, that's just the Gods honest truth.
I'm saying, traditionally
defense wins championships, and all 4 teams left have great defenses. Traditionally, all 4 teams left are solid clubs...except maybe the Bears but that's my perception of them, you and others might disagree and that's fine with me. I would have to say they belong here because they did take their division
