Jamaal Charles is very Westbrook/McCoy like and from what I've heard recently the Chiefs don't want to let Bowe walk.

I really don't think it was that bad of a trade?

I'm probably retarded, but the Chiefs roster is actually loaded with talent at some important spots. In Matt Cassel's one competent season, they went 10-6 and won the AFC West. The division outside of Denver is complete shit, and the Chiefs get to play the AFC South next season, with the two hardest teams (Hou/Ind) coming to Kansas City.

I just don't think the Chiefs could draft anything in round 2 to put them in a better spot than acquiring a quarterback. The NFL changes way too much in a span of three years, take the risk and hope for a 10-6 playoff season to energize your fan base and get something going.

It just feels like people put too much stock into draft picks when a lot bust and a lot won't be huge difference makers.

I blasted Reid, but he has the pieces to make that offense competent, and I've always liked their defense.

The conditional 2nd is probably one that if the Chiefs win the Super Bowl, they have to give up a 2nd. Otherwise, it is a 3rd for playoffs or lower otherwise. I'd expect it end up being a 2nd and 4th.

Overall, I think this trade was not terrible. If the Chiefs didn't make the trade, they would have had pressure to take a QB with the #1 overall and no QB in this draft is worth the #1 overall. Now they can get an area of need in the 1st to actually help the team, while having a dependable QB at the helm. They have a lot of talent already on the roster, now they can add more and a capable QB.

Not to disparage Smith - he did a great job - he wasn't the guy taking the team all the way. It was the defense and the running game. Even ESPN in all their hype is pointing to Smith's 18 of 19 passing day as the reason why he deserved credit. Throwing the ball less than 20 times in your best game?

Efficient, yes. Experienced, yes. Smart, yes. Turn your franchise around.... Not likely.

Smith doesn't have to turn the franchise around -- they are already a pretty solid, underrated bunch. If Bowe leaves they will have work to do, but they can easily go 10-6 with that roster.

Everyone gets caught up in franchise changing players and draft pick value, but at the end of the day less than 1% of players drafted are going to turn around a franchise.

IDK, if it was me I would have played it out a bit longer and if I didn't get Smith than I would have tried to get Foles for less. With this trade it shows that Reid must believe that this team is ready to win now.

If KC wouldn't have offered something like this then another team would have stepped up to the plate and made a deal.

Its not like Smith's salary was crippling the team and they have their starting QB on the cheap because he was a second round pick under the new CBA anyway. They could have just kept him in case anything happened to Kaep, or sold that story to boost his value.

The 49ers held all the bargaining chips here and used them. I think it's a good move for all three parties involved.

They would have released Smith, because Smith would have requested it. I really think Harbaugh felt like a POS for doing what he did to Smith, but he also knew that it was what was best for the team. Harbaugh would have eventually released him in order to free up $8 million, give Smith a chance to play and establish Kaepernick as the clear leader of the team.....it was going to happen. Reid was just scared that another team would come in and get him first, which I don't think would have happened. I wouldn't even be surprised if La Canfora was used to make a report to make teams nervous and force someone to make a move.

Yeah, but you have to think that if Reid coached Foles and was willing to give up a 2nd this early for Smith, he did not like Foles.

Let's say Alex Smith is released. Now you have...

New York (A), Minnesota, Arizona, Cleveland, Jacksonville, Oakland and maybe Buffalo/Tennessee potentially looking to sign him.

Reid isn't confident in any of the rookie QB's or any other options, so Smith makes sense. You are right, they probably acted too quickly, but that is going to happen when a QB has all the leverage.

Mostly because that'll help out Jamaal Charles. Guy's one of the most underrated players in the league. He might be seen as the second best RB after next season
