I honestly don't get this belief. What has he done with any other QB besides McNabb? Kolb, Feeley, Foles, etc. have all been terrible. IMO, Reid benefited way more from having McNabb as his franchise QB and Vick's one incredible season in 2010 than they benefited from him. Reid was great at acquiring talent, but in my opinion he is terrible at managing and coaching that talent. Not even in just the past two seasons, but the entire 2000s. He went to 5 NFC CGs and never came away with a ring. Everyone keeps saying how Reid is a great fit for the Chiefs and how he will turn the QB situation around in KC. I really don't see it happening, mainly because I haven't really believed he's done it in the past.

Joe was on the backside of his career. He became Kansas City's starter in 1993 when he hadn't done shit the previous two seasons besides get injured and then take a backup role to Steve Young. Pretty much two seasons of inactivity before acquiring a 37 year old injury proned QB. Not exactly a sure bet imo. He was acquired for less than Smith will be though.

It's not that they aren't getting a good player, its the fact they paid a ransom for him when everyone knows that he would have been cut eventually.
I can't imagine who else they were bidding against, and what the second highest bid was for them to trade a second and most likely third/fourth round pick. I can't see any other team trading a second round pick for him, so why they had to include the draft pick for next year is beyond me.

The Chiefs have had chances to draft QB's...they're just pussies when it comes to pulling the trigger. They passed on Flacco TWICE in the first round in '08. The Chiefs had the 5th and 15th picks, and Flacco went 18th. They also could have taken Aaron Rodgers in '05.
The Chiefs should still take Geno #1. They need to improve the whole depth chart at QB. I don't care if Geno isn't perceived to be as good of a prospect as Luck or RGIII...1) he'd be plenty good enough in any other year compared to guys like Stafford, Bradford, Russell, Carr, and Couch. 2) scouts/nfl people are wrong ALL THE TIME about guys...Geno Smith has all the tools in my eyes...not sure what the problem is with taking him high in the draft, other than teams not wanting to do something "risky".

Not sure if keeping him would be the best option, teams usually don't want any QB controversy (Sanchez/Tebow was a nightmare). Having a quality backup is more of a luxury nowadays.
