Exactly. Richardson is the boss even if his views might not be with the times. If you are going to invest hundreds of millions of dollars in someone to be the face of your franchise, there is nothing wrong with making sure that person isn't looked upon as a thug by a percentage of your fans (customers). You want ALL fans to open their wallets and buy jerseys and season tickets and overpriced concessions to recoup your investment and turn some profit.

If im a company and im looking for a team or player to pitch my product there is no question which one im going with. This doesnt even show the fact that CJ is covered with tats from head to toe. I laugh when people get a ridiculous amount of tattoos and piercings and then wonder why they cant work anywhere but Hollywood Video and Wendys. I have nothing against tattoos and piercings but when you get them you have to understand they arent acceptable in corporate America. Forearm and neck tattoos are the kiss of death in finding a good job in most situations.


Cam Newton has that clean cut image you can sell to white soccer moms. Cam has the potential to be the next Peyton Manning (in the commercial appeal sense). It doesnt make sense to some that someone like Chris Johnson who has never been in legal trouble as far as we know cant get endorsements and they will be rolling in for Newton who has past transgressions. Its all about the look.



George Steinbrenner told his players if you want to play for the Yankees this is the way you have to look, dress, etc and nobody had a problem with it. They were looked at as being a classy organization because of it.

It's fine for Richardson to think what he thinks. But you also don't hear him saying anything about Steve Smiths Tattoos, and Deangelo Williams' Tattoos didn't keep him from getting a fat contract. So clearly it's not that big a deal.

NO Bling (players are permitted to wear one necklace)

Its a business and some owners want their players to look professional and business like. (fuck all these players say when they move on for more money/or are released - its a business)

We tell our Youth (18-22yrs old) in our programs the same thing. take those damn eye/nose/lip piercings out for job interveiws
