Shuji Kondo vs Hiroshi Yamato

Not a MOTY contender, but if this is a running journal of the year, I would say that All Japan jr title vs NOAH jr title is a significant match. Plus, it was pretty good.

I always dig Hiroshi Yamato, he brings good fire. And Kondo is a guy i've always liked, gotta love those lariatooooos.
 
DGUSA Revolt! was a fantastic show, will end up being one of the best of the year for sure.

What hurts these DGUSA shows, is that even though they have four or five really good matches every time, the matches are all the same style, so the whole show blends together. So by the end of the year, you cant remember what matches happened on what show. Then entire year becomes a blur.

Rich Swann vs Eita, Akira Tozawa vs Sami Callihan, and Young Bucks vs Jimmyz were all in the ***1/2 - **** range.

AR Fox vs Samuray Del Sol was easily ****+. Johnny Gargano vs Jon Davis (no rope match) was about ****. Great brawl, better than Big Show/Del Rio the next night.
 
Warner, you are on point with DGUSA though...they are insanely consistent. They give you a TON of *** quality matches, they occasionally pop a **** or two on every weekend block.

Maybe during the year you'll pop something higher than a ****, and you'll get the occasional stinker...but they are as consistent as they come...but that can be a good thing and a bad thing, because by year's end, its really tough to distinguish what stands out. You know there was a ton of good stuff, but the cream doesn't rise to the top, as they'd say.

It's the same with Dragon Gate (Japan) too.

I'll watch Infinity, and see two matches that blow me away, or i'll watch a PPV and the entire show will blow my doors off, but because it's all so good and always so consistent, nothing ever stands out. And it doesn't help that nearly everybody is 5'10" and works exactly the same style.

We talk about these recent New Japan shows where nearly the whole card is amazing top to bottom, but Dragon Gate has quietly done this for years. I mean, if I was really being fair, if I ranked the top ten shows every year, Dragon Gate would probably occupy 5-8 spots every time. But it's a brainfuck and actually sort of a deterrent. Sometimes you need Great Khali or Captain New Japan to break things up and let your mind breath.
 
Sami Callihan vs Gargano from the previous set of shows, and Callihan vs Tozawa this past weekend, were great matches. I have to be fair. Those matches delivered.

Young Bucks vs DUF from Friday, not so much. I didn't like that.

I still haven't seen Sunday, and probably won't be getting around to it unfortunately.

get ready fruits, we're about to get bombarded with Fantasticamania, KENTA's title win, the All Japan show Flair didn't wrestle on, New Japan New Beginning, NPWD, etc.

then after that, WrestleMania Weekend is just sick with WrestleCon shows, New Japan iPPV, Mania, PWS, ROH, TNA, etc.

slow start to 2013 but a lot of content is coming up

The shows and matches are consistently good...I'd hold off on "great" but that is just a preference...I think there is very little deviation from the norm in DG and DGUSA...solid threes nearly all of the time. But there are only a few times they'd get fours from me. Maybe because its that deterrent...I dunno. They are like the Curtis Martin of wrestling.
 
January 9th Episode of NXT was pretty awesome.

Good tag match between Bo Dallas/Joe Hennig v. Primo/Epico.
Really fun, well booked matched between Seth Rollins and Big E. Langston for the NXT Title. Crowd LOVES Big E and it really made that match. Well booked, too. It is hard to book around a unit that hasn't even gotten a comeuppance in the WWE yet, in The Shield, but I thought they did good enough with it having the entire locker room come out and take out Reigns and Ambrose. Worked around Big E's strengths, too. Choc Lesnar never looked better.
 
Punk v. Jericho - Monday Night RAW - 2/4/2013

20+ of the best American free TV you're gonna see this month so far.
 
The 2/3 main event saw Masato Tanaka retained the Never Open Weight title pinning Tomohiro Ishii in 23:27 with the Sliding D. That match was said to be as good if not better than any match at the Tokyo Dome. There were reports it was the best match so far this year. It was so good that many of the wrestlers came out of the dressing room to watch it. These are probably the two most underrated guys in the business.
