I never got to watch Jim Brown and I don't remember watching Walter Peyton so obviously Barry Sanders is my favorite of the 3, a personal dislike against Emmitt Smith makes it even easier for me to rank him last, where I think he should be anyway.

That said, after watching a couple highlight clips of each of the top 3 mentioned, I think I would have to go with Walter Peyton being the most complete and best running back.

Sanders was the best in space, no doubt. Brown was a runaway freight train but it's obvious he played in a day where he just physically imposed his will on most men on the football field with him.

Peyton runs so hard it's disgusting. I don't know how many concussions or injuries he had but if you just watch his style you can't help but admire how hard that guy ran with the football in his hands. He obviously had good speed and agility, too, but there's something about his style that stands out to me, personally.

Sanders, while being the only great player in Detroit for years, had so many yards because he was in a spread offense that prevented defenses from stacking the box, and into playing nickle/dime most of the time. But get him in a pivotal 3rd and short, or goaline situation, especially late in the game when defenses had to stack the box, and you'll find Barry was inferior at producing here when these other three were some of the best in the business at it.

In the 10 years Barry played they finished above .500 5 out of 10 seasons and in 2 of those seasons they were 9-7. Barrys teams were absolute shit in comparison, Sweetness played on ATG great teams and won a SB, you trying to downplay how good some of those 80's Bears teams were while hyping up Detroits marginal teams is asinine. The guy retired because his teams were so bad and they werent doing anything to help him win a championship.

Exactly, but not because of a disparity in talent between the 2 backs but because the disparity in talent between teams. Emmitt, while a great RB gets way too much credit for his accomplishments considering the talent he has surrounding him. Fucking 2 HOF's in Aikman and Irving, Jay Novacheck, Moose Johnston leading the way for him behind that offensive line. Not even gonna talk about the defense.

If Barry would have played a few more years he would be the NFL's leading rusher and Emmitt would have been second fiddle. If Emmitt would have switched places with Barry he would have been an average NFL RB, not his fault he fell into a great situation but thats just how I see it.
