Where Does AP End Up Among The All-Time Leading Rushers?

I consider those two in different generations, really. Their career peaks don't really overlap.

Eh I guess...Both were post '00 and post Faulk. CJ is his contemporary but LT and AD are the only two RBs in the "great" category thus my desire to compare.

I think they are the "best back in the league" post Faulk...its just LT...THEN AP...because their peaks never really overlapped.

Tomlinson's peak was 01 to 07 while Peterson was a rookie in 07 and took over from there.

Peterson needs to look at that Tomlinson career arc, too...he hit the wall hard by his age 31 season and LT was as durable as they come. Did LT miss a game before he turned 30? I can't recall off the top of my head.

LT performed better IMO...mainly because of his pass catching skills...MFer caught 100 balls one year.

He seemed to swallow his pride when he went to the Jets for 2 years which was nice to see because he seemed to be a bit of a bitch and sore loser on the bolts at times.

28 already , has a repaired knee , and a style not condusive to longevity. All logic says he'll be in the Bettis range.

On the optimistic side he plays in a pansy league which just outlawed even more violent driven tactics so his style may not be an issue. The most remarkable thing to me was that hes a half step slower than he used to be and still got 2K. Like it or not only 2-3 guys have had any real success after 30 , AP has the freakazoid body that can do well past that though.

I used to hate LT because he would kill Denver, but other than the first year or so he was surrounded by more talent on offense than Peterson ever has been.

Well judging from this thread, I am going to stick my neck out for him and says he surpasses Walter Payton. Maybe even Emmitt. I think he could make it to the age of 36, even though his performance will take a hit, he's a type of player that is playing to break those rushing records. So I can see him pushing it an extra two seasons or so even when the media says otherwise.

As an AP-Homer I have to agree with this. AP doesn't do much outside just pure running.

That being said AP is the better RUNNING back still.

First of all.. lol at AD not even cracking the Top 10. He could possibly get there in 2 years, and likely gets there in 2.5-3.

Peterson's first 6 seasons -- 8849 yards

I don't think it's far fetched at all to think Peterson finishes in the Top 5 All-Time. Yeah he's had an injury history and has a more violent running style than Emmitt.. but to top LT's mark of 13,684 .. he needs 4,835 yards. If he averaged 1208 yards a season over the next 4 years.. he matches LT's career rushing totals. 1208 yards a season is about 75 yards a game. To top Curtis Martin's spot at #4.. AD could get there in 4 years by averaging 1313 yards a season, or 82 yards a game.

I can see Peterson be in the 1600-2000 yard range for the next 2-3 years before his production drops.. even then, hitting 900-1000 yards in a season (56-63 yards a game) isn't the big deal it used to be. So yeah.. I think he finishes Top 5 barring another major injury.

4 years is a LONG time for an NFL running back.

In 4 seasons, Tomlinson went from best back in the league to out of the NFL and he had under 2000 yards in that 4-ish year span. AD is at a period in his career where its tough to really predict. I mean...1300+ yards in his age 32 season? The chances of that are very slim.
