Cancelled Direct TV...tv in general

I havent paid for TV in years. no point in forking over that much cash when theres such a wide range of content available in other places. even if you take away all the illegal options, theres still netflix, a redbox on every corner, and for sports id rather go to a good sports bar or hang out at a friends house who does pay for that stuff. Theres stuff I miss, sure, but I don't miss the outrageous bills.

I was actually at a friends house the other day who has cable and he went on a beer run. He's like heres the remote watch whatever you want. I didn't know what to do with myself. It was fucking wierd flipping through like a thousand channels.......and i couldnt find anything I wanted to watch. The very concept of missing the first 15 minutes of something is bizarre to me now.

Commercials are what get me. I cant stand to sit through commercials anymore. Its to the point where I purposely record the shows I want to watch rather than watch them live as they air so i can just skip through the commercials.

i tried out netflix a couple years back when the streaming option just became popular...i was very unhappy with the selection then. We got it again and i must say that i am still extremely disappointed by the selection. its a great choice for the kids though

also, not having cable anymore forced me to move the wii to the living room TV...where its actually getting used now because the wii also supports both netflix and hulu

Also does hulu have shows like jerseylicious, empire girls, bunheads, and other girl shows? Cause if they do then i think i can turn my cable off as well.

my cable company has 4 tiers...i am on the 2nd cheapest tier which gives me 18 mbps downloads and is $53 per month
my bundle was really scamming me. i had 2 cable boxes, 1 was a dvr and your basic digital package...no movie channels and with the internet i was paying $170 per month....thats about 120 a month just for cable...fuck that

i will take the 16 bucks for netflix and hulu for the block

I go back and forth on this.
I may really have to sit down next year and pay attention to my habits to see if its worth it.
I would still have to do NFL package via Sat though. Via internet is just asking for video quality issues.
Would still leave me the option of PPVing a UFC the once or twice a year they put on a decent card.

I just like having stuff on tap. Hulu is good but arent some series simply not on there ? Like Walking Dead Id have to sit and wait for it to be on Hulu no ?

Where can i find NFL Network? Im doing pretty well with my tv needs using ps3 with playon and a antenna. It seems NFL Network has disappeared on the "free-web"

I cant find a playon plugin or a general web link for it anywhere in last few days. Help

yeah I gave up on the no cable option...being able to click a button and have Wimbledon and US OPEN, NFL, ESPN, YES on my TVs is just too convenient.

It didnt make sense to alot of money when NFL the only channel I watch. All the tv shows and movies with playon is no problem.

Not only do I pay for cable but I also pay for MLB.tv every month. I'm just too addicted to watching my TV shows.

My DVR is a couple years old so maybe the newer ones do this but I wish you could create a playlist of your recorded shows that way you don't have to keep stopping and going back the menu to watch the next show

Just paid the FiOS bill on Saturday...$302.59. After paying I called and bitched about how much I pay and they gave me all the movie channels, that I was paying full price for, for 50% off for the next 12 months. :smughard:

A damn shame.

HBO and ESPN can cut out the middle man and make straight profit by just offering a la carte service for the online services.

People would pay 9.99 or even 14.99 a month for HBO (they already do)...people would do the same for ESPN. $10 seems to be the go-to price for monthly subsciption services and people are willing to pay it in droves (netflix, hulu+, etc)...

HBO and ESPN really need to open up and allow those online services be standalone options not just complimentary to your already there service.

AppleTV provides these but you still need someone with the login. I think this will at least help cut into "second receiver" costs. I'm probably gonna cut my secondary receiver with DTV and rock straight AppleTV for my back room, paying through the nose for that extra DVR box.

I have AppleTV and am aware. There are obvious ways around it, but it still sucks.

I don't even think the number of people that would drop their service would register in any data the cable/sat companies use.

And, lets be honest...no major cable company is going to drop HBO or ESPN because they are utilizing an auxiliary revenue source.
