I am just worried about the effect a big money contract will have on the guy and if he'll turn into another Terrell Owens.

Diva wide receivers are usually bad news for teams.

The only diva wide receiver I can think of in recent years who was a champion was Michael Irvin.

T.O. has been labeled a cancer in the locker room just about everywhere he has went. While DeSean has done some idiot shit on the field, I haven't heard anything about him in the locker room other than a little tiff he had with Macklin in training camp.

He stretches the field and opens things up for Macklin, and more importantly Shady McCoy. You're right, he'll never be a 90-100 catch guy but I don't think he's expected to be either. The potential for him to score anywhere on the field makes him one of the most valuable pieces on this team.

To be honest, I am not a fan of his on the field antics. Hopefully he matures and that gets toned down some. That being said, you pay him. I know this orgaanization, they are not going to go the Dan Snyder route and completley overpay him. He'll get fair market value.

Since when is 60-70 catches and 1000-1100 yds combined with double digits in TDs a bad thing any more?

A guy has that much speed he can't help but score on each play. He had a bomb on the first play of the Dallas game, then he caught a pass over the middle when he wasn't double covered, and then he caught that 5-6 yard out and turned it into 90+yard TD play, just because he's that fast.

No one wants him to slow down just so he catches 3 more passes. If he can score on each play then whats the drawback on that?

There are roles to fill and players are built for those roles, some adapt to there over time. Right now DJax's job is to do one thing score on each play.

I am beginning to worry as an Eagles' fan about Desean Jackson.
His constant pouting about his contract and how it's affecting him on the field.
I get this ugly feeling if he gets his money (and he will), he may become even worse in terms of attitude ... and possibly as bad as Albert Haynesworth and not caring at all.

So the question I pose to you fine VSNers (and Steeljake) is: Would you consider trading Desean Jackson in the off-season if you were the Eagles?

My feeling is this - as exciting and explosive as Jackson is, wide receiver is not a franchise position. The Eagles have another exciting young WR in Jeremy Maclin and a decent #2 in Jason Avant, as well as up and coming Riley Cooper.
Jackson would net a nice bounty if the Birds put him on the open market ... preferably to an AFC team.

Is Jackson worth the headaches he will give the team in the future?

Strictly on the field, I say yes. But there's more to an NFL team than that.

Jason Avant is not a good #2, and Jeremy Maclin isn't close to a true #1. Desean Jackson isn't a player you come across a whole lot while I also do realize he isn't a true #1 as well. No way the Eagles give him up. Jason Avant has very little chance of succeeding on the outside consistently. I also don't see him acting like Haynesworth.

Receiver is the only position in the NFL that you ever see good players being traded. If Desean is unhappy playing with Philly, they should trade him before it gets ugly. I cannot imagine his asking price being any higher than it will this off-season.

I haven't seen a receiver with this kind of big play ability since Randy Moss.

Jackson has unreal speed, I think he is by far the fastest guy in the NFL and that includes Chris Johnson.

I've just never seen a guy score so much touchdowns while back peddling into the end zone or falling backwards.

He had 1167 yards and 12 TDs last year (2 punt returns, 1 rushing)

He has over 900 and 7 TDs this year (1 rushing) right now so he'll most likely surpass last season's yardage totals.

Guy is explosive as it gets. He can score a touchdown any time the ball is in his hands. You don't trade a guy like that in his prime no matter what. Eventually, yeah, but not right now. Pay the man and reap the benefits of his speed.

Of course there is nothing wrong with being a big play guy, and he's a great weapon. But he's not a bonafide #1 WR, and likely never will be. And the topic is, would you pay him big money if he demands it, or let him walk? When you factor in his maturity issues/obvious diva potential, I say there is a limit on what I would pay a guy like that.

Reid tore a strip off Jackson after a game this year for being immature and not giving it his all.
Jackson was recently on Ocho Cinco's show saying he wanted to get paid and they spent a lot of time talking about his contract.

I love Jackson's production, don't get me wrong, but I think he's a ticking time bomb where the attitude is concerned.

I know he's cool by all the gangstas (white nerds who think they can rap) here, but if I were Reid and Banner, I'd have serious, serious concerns about the cap implications of keeping this guy happy.
