I realize there are occasionally snubs in the current format but how does playoffs make things any better? 2 years ago was there any argument that any other teams than Texas or Bama deserved to be in the BCS game, I just don't see Boise or TCU hanging with either of those teams. Also look at how dumbed down other sports are with playoffs. One off week at the wrong time with a ranking system is bad enough but you get some crazy matchup where a team may have had to face Alabama, LSU, Florida and other elite teams in consecutive weeks heading into a playoff and something very strange could happen and make for even more craziness and even less resolve because teams from the Big East or other weaker conferences would have much less wear and tear than teams from the Big 10, SEC and Pac 12.

I just don't see playoffs helping at all and the US government needs to govern the US and not US Sports.

Spoken like a true elitist and fan of a BCS school, of course you wouldn't be in favor of, or see the need for a playoff. God forbid you actually have to earn the title of national champions and go through little old pesky Boise or TCU, let's just keep them out and say they wouldn't stand a chance anyway so no point in giving them a fair shot.

DOJ went after Microsoft for anti-trust about 10 years ago. They are going to do the same to the NCAA. You have to remember many of these universities are publicly funded institutions.. we have laws against the kind of shit BCS has been doing. Just look at the Fiesta Bowl issues and bowl managers making 800k, and lavish spending. This is only a tip of the iceburg. With all the money spent by these higher ups, and then the BCS forcing schools to cover all costs for buying seats causing schools like UCONN to lose money eyebrows are going to be raised. NCAA and BCS shot themselves in the foot and I am glad the DOJ is going to flex some muscle. It means some form of playoff is going to come.

DOJ went after online poker a few weeks ago and I know you weren't happy about that. I feel like the gov't will get a pass here for interfering with college football just off of how many people hate the BCS. End of the day though no way I can justify them wasting resources on college football considering the state of this country as a whole.

I agree...but it doesn't change the fact that a 13-0 TCU/Boise St. should have a shot at proving themselves against a 12-1 Florida/Alabama. You can sit here all you like and tell me that you don't think they stand a chance against the big boys, while I can sit here and show you examples of those same underdogs beating your precious BCS schools over and over again in regular season games, and BCS bowls.

College football needs a unique playoff set-up to introduce balance to the system. Adding every conference champ (like you would in the NFL/NBA/MLB) doesn't work, because those sports have far more balanced divisions and schedules, while the biggest problem in college football is the lack of competitive balance from one school to another. As such, the BCS rankings (or perhaps a revised system) should still be used to determine the top eight seeds, and form a playoff from them. It's all about taking the best teams in college football, and having them duke it out.

Everyone always compares the small schools to the dick-sucking fest that the SEC has become. How about the OSU years when they were contenders to go to the NC? Michigan hasn't been Michigan in a while, Wisconsin and Iowa just upped their game recently, Penn St is the same every year, Illinois and Michigan St is always underachieving, NW, Minnesota, and Purdue are never noteworthy, Indiana just sucks. Are these conferences really a ton worse than the Big Ten was some years? I'm pretty sure the TCU, BSU, and Utah teams could have ran the table against those teams some years too. Especially when TCU just beat Wisconsin when they were running Big Ten teams off the field every week.

Because the potential fraud implicated in a system that could screw a Pac-10 school out of millions of dollars in revenue if they are handicapped by a system that over-values SEC teams because of a "strength of schedule" program like the BCS. The Justice Department is worried about the NCAA screwing over student athletes, Universities, fans, gamblers, all of it. Good for the Justice Department to get on top of this and add a little pressure to the damned BCS. :applause:

But the point is that even if they are undefeated they shouldn't just go get to play them. They didn't have any stiff competition all year long. Yeah so what that Boise went across the country to play a Va Tech team.

Point is that if a team like Auburn can go through teams week in and week out like South Carolina, Georgia, Bama, LSU, Arkansas, whatever else that that team will be beaten and wore down over a team that just had to go through Nevada, Fresno, Hawaii, and Louisiana Tech. Even if the talent of those teams or close then it would give a clear advantage to the one that hasn't had a ton of tough games.

Has nothing to do with SEC being an elite conference. Pac 12, Big 12 south, SEC, Big 10 all play schedules infinitely more tough. And for those teams to get to where they are going they have to live up to expectations and not lose more than 1 time to any of the 5-6 teams that probably could beat them and several very tough road conference games. I'm sorry but going 9-3 or 10-2 is not even equal to running the table undefeated on 8-10 teams in your schedule that wouldn't win 3 games in a BCS conference not named Big East.

Yeah, good points bro. Arbitrarily picking two teams to play for the champioship is much better than seeing things decided on the field. You know how every other sport on the planet uses a playoff? Well, all of them are wrong.

We could have just skipped all of this playoff nonsense and had the Lakers play Boston. And forget Butler. Bunch of lames playing Cupcake U all year. Let's just skip the bullshit and do Duke vs. Kentucky every year.

College football will continue to have a completely meaningless and boring postseason, and the most overrated and meaningless regualar season, because of old white guys protecting their own interest. Only homers of Cartel programs support the BCS. Gee, I wonder why.

How do you know? They don't get a chance to play them.

That's some system you support, where something like 80 or 90 teams have no shot to win the title before they even take a snap.

College football is the only sport where something like 90% of the games are meaningless exhibitions. Including the entire goofy postseason, save one game.

Thats just it. You might not think it, but we won't know until they play. And since there's no way in hell that a Bama or LSU schedules Boise or TCU, then why not let them settle it on the field one of these years? You can't honestly tell me that the Big Ten is loaded most years or half the Pac 10 is worth a damn or that 3/4ths of the teams in the Big XII know what a defense is. I think if you switched TCU and OSU or Oregon, they'd likely still be a top 5 undefeated team at the end of the year, only they'd be "legitimate" because they'd be associated with more well-known conferences. Which just speaks to how flawed the system is.

Why would anybody be butt hurt about some judicial insight into college sports? It's the judicial systems responsibility to ensure no fraudulent activity takes place in society. Wouldn't you agree that the BCS has unfairly prevented some smaller programs from competing for a national championship? And therefore prevented said program from collected national championship bowl money and/or recruitment leverage? Let the courts do their jobs, they wouldn't be there if it wasn't within their power to do so.

We are talking about a billion dollar industry with innumerable investors and affiliates, thousands of employees and that receives public funding. Is college football important in the grand scheme of things? No, of course not. Is the billions of dollars exchanging hands? Absolutely.

It's a corrupt system. It doesn't matter if it is wall street or college football, we are talking about shady dealings with significant money.

That MUST be investigated and prosecuted. That is why anti-trust laws exist. I love how the BCS president is hiding behind the "Don't they have anything better to do" arguement. Deflect the arguement. No, they don't have anything better to do than to hammer a corrupt, billion dollar industry. That IS what our taxmoney should be working on.

Thats the only problem I have with a playoff, everyone wants something different. A plus 1 is fine with me. 8 teams max. Then you have idiots who want 16, 24, 32, or even 64(!) teams, none of which make a damn bit of sense and are only suggested to follow the NFL or March Madness.
