Reporter: Do you see your team repeating as national champions?

Mark Richt: I think this team has a real possibility to do so. We have almost our entire team back from last year. Our schedule is a lot tougher than last year's though.

Reporter: Are there any newcomers that are going to make an immediate impact?

Mark Richt: I don't really know yet. None have been given the starting job yet but neither were Sanders Commings and Branden Smith last year.

Reporter: Which game on your current schedule worries you the most?

Mark Richt: Probably the season opener. We have a young quarterback and we are putting him in the game of the week in a hostile environment. Also, we have a lot of new faces in the secondary and they have a great passing attack.

Reporter: If you make it, who do you envision as your opponents in the SEC Championship?

Mark Richt: Well first we have to get there but if we do then I have to say Ole Miss. Their team looks very good and poised for a great year this year.

Season Preview

The 2010-2011 College Football season is about to kickoff and the Georgia Bulldogs are the overwhelming favorites to repeat. They are preseason number one and have talent in every facet in the game. In this preview, we will go through every position and discuss.

Last year, Joe Cox was just a game manager. He would throw only ten times a game and just keep the defense honest. This year, the quarterback lookes to take on a bigger responsibility. We just don't know which one as their is a three man race for the starting spot right now.

Leading right now is Redshirt Freshman Aaron Murray. Murray might be young but he is very mature. He enrolled early his freshman year and spent the whole year just learning the playbook. He plays like a seasoned veteran and is extremely accurate. He also has above average speed to get away from pressure and gain a couple of yards.

Redshirt Junior Logan Gray is also a contender for the spot. Gray is a scrambling quarterback with blazing speed. However, he is innaccurate and has an average arm.

The final quarterback is Zach Mettenberger. Mettenberger is a Redshirt Freshman but also enrolled early like Aaron Murray. Mettenberger is collosal at 6'5", 233 lbs and has arm strength that scouts say rivals none other than former Bulldogs Matthew Stafford. He also is accurate and is the prototypical pro-style quarterback.

Unlike the quarterback position, everyone knows who will be starting at tailback, Caleb King. Thats not to say though that their isn't more talent at that position, believe me. Its loaded.

The starter is returning All-American Redshirt Junior Caleb King. King ran for 1,688 yards last year and 20 touchdowns and carried the team to a National Championship. King missed the National Championship Game last year with a torn shoulder but is fully healthy now.

Expect Redshirt Sophomore Carlton Thomas to get a lot of carries this year as he can complement King very well. Thomas has blazing speed and at 5'7", he is very tough to tackle.... much like Oregon State's Jacquizz Rodgers.

The third back is Redshirt Sophomore Dontavius Jackson. Jackson is a power back that can be used on goal line situations. He also possesses a spin move that will "wow" fans this year.

The fullback position is vital in Georgia's offense because their offense is based off the i-formation. Well, Georgia is stacked with talent and experience at the position with Shaun Chapas and Fred Munzenmaier, both Fifth-year Seniors. Both are excellent run blockers that lead the way for Caleb King. Also, they both a pretty fast for their position and are x-factors in the passing game.

The receiving core is lead by heisman hopeful A.J. Green. Green caught 51 receptions for 870 yards and 16 touchdowns. His hands and leaping ability are unmatched throughout college football. However, other players will have to step up now that the Dawgs will pass more.

Lining up opposite of Green will be Sophomore Marlon Brown. Brown is big at 6'5" and plays a lot like the Arizona Cardinal's Anquan Boldin. In fact, Georgia wants Green and him to form a Boldin/Fitzgerald type of duo.

In the slot will be speedster Tavarres King. King needs to stretch the field with his speed and be a constant home-run threat.

Returning from injuries are Kris Durham and Tony Wilson. Durham is tall at 6'5" and has good hands. Wilson is Georgia's best blocking wide reciever and is good at running short routes.

Georgia might have the deepest and most talented tight ends in the country. They have five great ones that would all be stars on other teams.

Bruce Figgins and Aron White are the starters and play off each other. Figgins is a great blocker while White is a great receiving threat. He can make big plays happen.

The next three are Georgia's future at the position. Redshirt sophomore Bryce Ros is a do-it-all type of tight end. Redshirt Freshman Orson Charles was a highly sought after recruit for his speed. He is as fast as wide receivers but in a tight ends body. He is a gamechanger. Redshirt Freshman Arthur Lynch was also highly coveted for his great blocking.

Georgia has arguably the best offensive line in college football history. They are so deep that their backups are probably the second best in the country behind Georgia's first string.

At left tackle, Georgia has Trinton Sturdivant, the best left tackle in college. He is dominant at both run and pass blocking. Backing him up is Georgia's "Mr. Everything", Clint Boling.

At left guard, Cordy Glenn is the starter and arguably the best left guard in the nation. He has hercules-like strength and impeccable footwork. His backup is the massive Vince Vance. Vance stands at 6'8", 321 lbs yet has great speed.

At center is Junior Ben Jones. Jones has started since his freshman year and is the best center in the nation also. His backup is Kevin Perez. Perez would be a starter on most teams except for Georgia.

At right guard, Clint Boling gets the starting spot. He has started at everyline position and is a leader. Backing him up is Tanner Strickland. Strickland missed all of last year with a shoulder injury.

At right tackle, the starter is Justin Anderson. Anderson is one of the best right tackles in college football and is good at both types of blocking. His backup is John Miller. Miller has experience being a fifth year senior.

Georgia is loaded at defensive ends and should get constant pressure on the opposing quarterbacks.

At left end is Justin Houston. Houston had 40 tackles last year (19 for loss) and 6 sacks. He also had two forced fumbles and a interception that he took to the house.

At right end, Demarcus Dobbs will start. Dobbs is a great tackler and had one sack last year.

If there is one thing to worry about, it is the defensive tackle position. Last year, Georgia had two dominant ones in Geno Atkins and Jeff Owens. They helped make the best run defense in the country last year but now both are gone.

The two starters will be DeAngelo Tyson and Ricardo Crawford. Tyson is more of a speedy tackle while Crawford is very strong. Both are good tacklers but they have trouble shedding blocks.

Even worse is the Dawgs are razor thin depth wise as the two backups are true freshman that are not ready to play SEC football.

The Left Outside Linebacker will be Darryl Gamble. Gamble is very fast for a linebacker and a good tackler. Last year he had 46 tackles. His backup is Redshirt Sophomore Nick Williams. Williams was a safety in 2008 but was converted to linebacker.

At middle line backer is Akeem Dent. Dent is a supreme playmaker with great awareness. He had 67 tackles last year and 4 interceptions. He also had a safety and two fumble recoveries.

His backup is Dustin Fenner. Fenner was a junior college recruit that will start next year.

Rennie Curran starts at Right Outside Linebacker and is arguably the best in the nation. He is a senior that had 59 tackles last year. His blazing speed, play recognition, and tackling ability, make him a uncontainable monster.

Akeem Hebron will back him up. Hebron is talented enough to start on other teams but didn't transfer because he loves being a Dawg. His speed is unmatched for a linebacker.

A positon of strength on the defense is the cornerback position. Georgia has three All-SEC caliber players.

Redshirt Sophomore Sanders Commings is the superstar and lock down corner in the group. He is big at 6'2", 196 lbs but contains speed to be a physical specimen. He had 41 tackles and 2 interceptions as a nickel corner last year.

Lining opposite of Commings is Junior Brandon Boykin. Boykin is great at man coverage and can make plays on the ball. Last year, he had 3 interception and returned one for a touchdown.

The nickel corner is Sophomore Branden Smith. Smith has world class speed and was a game-changer on special teams last year. He had 1 interception last year.

The Dawgs have two new faces at the Safety spots but don't expect much of a dropoff.

At Free Safety, Redshirt Junior John Knox will start. He is a great tackler and play recognizer. He has the ability to be a ball-hawking safety.

At Strong Safety is Quintin Banks. Banks is a head hunter that can deliver a serious hit. He plays much like former Dawgs Thomas Davis and Greg Blue.

The backup at both spots is Redshirt Sophomore Bacarri Rambo. Rambo is a sure-fire tackler.

Chris Fowler: Alright guys, the college football season is about to kickoff and the Game of the Week is Georgia at Boise State. Georgia is starting a freshman in a hostile environment. Can Boise upset the top ranked Dawgs?

Lee Corso: Not so fast my friend! Georgia has shown they do not lose to mid-majors. In 2005, Georgia beat Boise State 48-13. Then in 2007, Georgia beat Hawaii 41-10. Boise won't get pressure on Murray because of that offensive line and King will have a field day. Georgia wins big!

Kirk Herbstreit: Georgia has a lot of new faces in the secondary and Boise State is lead by heisman candidate Kellen Moore..... but it won't matter. Boise can not run with Georgia's athletes. Georgia wins this one!

Georgia Win Season Opener!

Aaron Murray looked like a veteran in his first career start.

Georgia fell behind early but then cruised to a 34-24 victory. Redshirt freshman Aaron Murray was marvelous even with a hurt A.J. Green (left game with injury in second quarter) completing 13 of 16 passes for 229 yards. Caleb King was excellent as usual with 126 yards and two touchdowns on 26 attempts.

Boise State started the game with a surprisingly dominant drive that was capped off with a seven yard touchdown pass. Then, on Georgia's first offensive play of the game, Caleb King was stripped and Boise had the ball again. Fortunately, the Georgia defense held strong and forced a field goal to make it 10-0. On the next drive, Aaron Murray led the Dawgs to a touchdown drive.

The second quarter was very defensive till the end. Georgia's running game started to pick up and Carlton Thomas scored with a minute and a half left. Then, Kellen Moore led the Broncos down the field using a two minute drill to score a touchdown with seconds remaining. The score at the half was 17-13 Boise State.

The second half is where Georgia took over scoring 24 straight to take a convincing 37-17 lead. Boise scored a meaningless touchdown at the end to make the score look respectable, 37-24 Georgia.
