Why do you think it's so hard to tackle someone? It's simply grabbing the legs, it won't work everytime but it's more effective than grabbing their jersey. And because I know that going for the legs is effective doesn't mean I'm a great tackler, it just means I know to go for the legs.
Have you not seen guys like Brandon Jacobs or Jerome Bettis in action?
You can't just teach someone perfect technique and then just throw them out there.
Once again you're making it sound simple to grab someone legs in the middle of a NFL game.
You wanna know why most NFL players don't use perfect technique? Because they don't have the opportunity to.
Image your a LB........
When the ball is snapped first you have to find out rather it's a run or a pass
Once you figure out it's a run you have to avoid the 300+ linemen coming to knock you on your ass
Then after avoiding them you have to check again and make sure the RB hasn't cut back or changed directions.
Then once you find out where the RB is going you have to try take a angle and beat someone to a spot who is very strong and runs somewhere around a 4.4
So let's say you do get to the RunningBack.
After taking time to read a play, avoid linemen, and then read the play again, find the RB, and then getting to where you need to be.
Honesty what's your chances of being in position to tackle with "perfect technique"?
NFL defenders are rarely in position to use perfect technique so that's why people don't use it.
Now that's a big RB like Brandon Jacobs or Steven Jackson. Now imagine someone like Reggie Bush or Willie Parker.
I bet that if you were in the open field and had to tackle one of these guys one-on-one, you wouldn't even be able to get a hand on them. Which means that you wouldn't be able to get a hand on their legs, which means that you wouldn't be able to make the tackle..........
Now do you realize why you rarely see perfect technique? A good runner isn't going to allow you to get in position to use it against them.
