The leader on that team is Brian Urlacher. It's not about yelling, it's about caring. You watch Jay Cutler and it just seems like he doesn't care, ever.
Well we see 5 second shots of Cutler on the sideline. The thing is it looks like he doesn't care when they are winning too. Also, as I mentioned before if he didn't care at all he wouldn't be in the league and would be hanging out with Cade McNown. That's someone that doesn't care. By any and all accounts Cutler works his ass off. To me that shows that he cares for than a 5 second cut away durng a 3 hour broadcast.
Cutler didn't lead his team to the NFC Title game, the defense did.
Agree and Disagree. Obviously the Bears defense was a strength. But Cutler had a good season and showed progress even from 2009. It's also tough to say he didn't lead the the team to the NFC title game when he accounted for four TD's in the first playoff game.
You also have to view it based on what the Bears have..or more accuratly what they don't have. Which is a good OL and WR's. While Cutler is very talented and IMO a good QB he's not great enough to overcome those two issues on his side of the ball. Unless you are an elite QB you aren't going to overcome those things and there are only two elite QB's in the game right now. Manning and Brady.
Phil Rivers is an emotional guy who always has his team behind him.
He also has yet to win anything.
The Pats really turned it around this year once Brady seemed to start to act like he actually gave a shit.
Drew Brees can routinely be seen pumping up his defense and other teammates, as has Peyton Manning.
The difference is though that these guys do it for moments. Same as Cutler. Cutler will get up celebrate big plays etc. He got into it with Browns DC Ryan last season during a game. Cutler isn't Philip Rivers or Tim Tebow but he's not some emotionless blob out on the field either. His overall mentality/look on the field is more like Peyton Manning than anything else. Obviously Manning is light years ahead as a player right now but Manning has the same dumb look, the same bitchness towards teammates and is a straight asshole at times. Manning does it and is a leader and competitor. Cutler does it and is a punk.
I think that has a lot to do with Cutler is a dick to the media and is a quiet reserved guy off the field. Manning is doing TV spots and SNL so even when he's a douche on the field it's offset by him cussing out kids about snitching or chanting at deli meat cutters. And he wins and puts up gaudy numbers. Something Cutler hasn't done until this season winning wise. We never see Cutler at the Children's Hospitals or at fundraisers etc. So our perception is skewed a bit. Is that maybe Cutler's fault that we don't see it? Sure. But that doesn't make the perception any less incorrect in relation to what the reality of the guy is.
All I know is that when Cutler was sent away from Denver a lot of class veteran guys like Champ Bailey stood behind the move
And maybe when Cutler leaves Chicago we will hear stories but you'd hear that about most any QB when they leave from someone somewhere. I'm sure Cutler rubs people the wrong way. I get it. That doesn't mean he has to be hated though. Or is a dick head or a punk ass. It just mean him and some people don't get along.
Tebow doesn't scream on the sidelines.. He high fives the defense after a three and out, he chest bumps the punter after pinning a team inside the 10, he runs all the way down field to congratulate his receiver after a TD pass
Manning does none of that.
and he NEVER throws his hands up in disgust after an INT or incompletion the way Cutler does.
Manning does this...a lot.
Different strokes, different folks.
And you can't just blame it on the crap WRs in Chicago
Never did. Jay has to get better but to ignore that crap fest that is the Bears WR corps the last two seasons would be overlooking an obvious problem. IMO the progress I saw Cutler make this year teamed with getting a real WR would have some very nice results in 2011.
When you see your QB caring that much as another player you can't help but want to go out there and play hard for that guy. Maybe when I hear a story about Jay Cutler pointing out John Candy in the stands to settle down his teammates in the biggest game of his career you're Montana analogy would be apt... But in order for that to take place Jay Cutler would have to, you know, be on the field for that big drive.
Is he allowed to fire a INT right into a Bengals stomach later in the drive and have them drop it?
:smug:
Now if you're going to tell me that Wade Wilson can fix something that Mike Shanahan and Mike Martz can't I'm gonna have to LOL at that one.
I think the misconception is that the OC or HC can eally put in the time with the QB IMO the QB gets more fundamental teaching from the position coach. Martz obviously gives Cutler things to work on but it would help more if you had an actually qualified position coach to work on this stuff with him while Martz is off doing the other million things that need to be done to run his system.
Again, the numbers aren't improving. He still threw a shit ton of INTs this year and cost the Bears just as many games as he won for them.
Disagree. He cost us the Washington game and maybe the Week 17 GB game(I'll throw it in there for the heck of it). On the flip side he had big games against the: Cowboys, Vikings(twice), Eagles, Jets, Seahawks(playoffs)
George also played for some of the shittiest organizations and coaches in the league while Cutler has had the luxury of working with some of the better offensive minds in football (save Ron Turner). And he just isn't improving. Look at Cutler's numbers this year at 27 compared to those of Jeff George, they look pretty similar.
Ignores that Cutler actually IMO got better this year especially compared to last year if you aren't looking at the numbers. He didn't have the chronic meltdowns etc. it's not all on the talent around Cutler, but most Bears fans would say that while Cutler still has room to improve and things to work on he definetly improved from last year to this year and if he had a competant OL and better WR's the numbers would look better. Cutler's improvement in certain aspects of his game this year were/are hidden in some of his surrounding cast not being nearly as good as it needs to be.
At least his dad didn't call Urban Meyer and complain about the pass protection after.. :smug:
I think he needs to make another call.
