Hopefully Stubbs learns how to bunt and puts it all together. That guy has more peak potential than Bruce IMO, but may never get there. Bruce has shown so much more growth as a player.

Still think this team is the Orioles. The Fielder mandate from Heyman and the fact that the Orioles got nothing done except for Eveland leads me to believe they got involved in something big, but have nothing to show for it. And, they face nothing but backlash from the fans if they are identified. Not like it matters anymore, but I would like to think we at least tried for Pujols.

Doubt his sons will be any better. Dude made a shitton of money settling the tobacco case for Maryland farmers, and just hasn't invested it back into the team properly.

I actually like a lot of these Duquette moves. He's bringing in guys who may be out of options, flying under the radar and/or former high draft picks like Eveland. Sure, it might be hoping to get the next Jeremy Guthrie, but low risk moves are a part of baseball. The issue is that, yet again, we aren't spending money to improve, and Duquette couldn't get rid of the Stockstills from the front office. Those are the guys who are in charge of player development, and have been sucking it up recently, despite having Mike Bordick and Brady Anderson getting rave reviews as roving instructors.

What that ultimately means is that he doesn't have full control of things in the front office. Everything still runs through Angelos, and I don't even think he will pull a Dan Snyder and acquiesce to a legend like Cal Ripken if he became the GM.

Rays lock up Matt Moore for a long time.

The Rays have authored another precedent-setting contract, locking up 22-year-old phenom Matt Moore for at least five years, according to ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick. Moore has just 17 days of big league service time (plus ten innings in the postseason), but the Rays committed $14MM for Moore’s next five seasons. The contract is reminiscent of the Rays’ April 2008 commitment to Evan Longoria, but is the first of its kind for a pitcher. Moore’s guarantee is easily a record for a pitcher with less than a year’s service time, and it also tops any pitcher who signed with less than two years service. The Rays have club options covering Moore’s third arbitration year and first two free agent years. If those are exercised, the deal could be worth $37.5MM over eight years, and it could exceed $40MM with escalators. Moore is represented by Matt Sosnick along with Jon Pridie and Adam Karon of Sosnick Cobbe Sports.

He's been an average GM since losing the Big Three. Those guys made his legacy- sure there is the whole Moneyball philosophy, but that kind of offense worked because you had Zito, Hudson and Mulder to lock things down.

I stand by this statement though- if the Athletics didn't give Billy Beane ownership in the team, he would be gone by now. That team has been average to below average for about five years, and most other GMs would be canned.
