Full time. He never was really jerked around last season - TLR just brought in Descalso as a defensive replacement almost every game, plus he battled injuries.

Honestly, I just threw them in there without thinking. The Reds are the only team in the division I'm afraid of this upcoming season.

The Reds are really over-hyped right now. I still don't like the Reds offense (Outside of Votto-Bruce) you guys still don't have a closer, and you got owned on two trades in Latos and Marshall.

Brewers rotation (1-5) is all set again for next season. Greinke is in his contract-year and losing Fielder hurts, but I think the pitching and improved defense should help overcome some of that. Gamel is going to be the wildcard for the Crew imo.

Reds led the NL in runs two years ago, and were 2nd last year. It's essentially the same 8 guys returning from those two teams.

Volquez - 7th or 8th starter, salary dump, was not making final roster

Reds got:
Latos - potential stud SP under team control until 2016, best SP on the market
Marshall - top tier RP, maybe the best LH setup man in the game, third highest WAR among all RP's last season (and that includes closers)

In summary: Reds traded ONE player who was expected to contribute in 2012 (Alonso), and got back two top tier pitchers, one of whom has a solid chance to be a true ace and is already one of the best SP's in the NL.

When you factor in Alonso's negative defense in LF, he would have needed to be a .900 OPS hitter (as a rookie, no less) to make up the difference and be an above average WAR left fielder.

Remember, this is a projected 15-20 HR hitter. He will be a very good hitter, but the Reds needed a guy like Latos a lot more, and are a better team after those two trades.

Reds overhyped? Really? The rest of the division arguably got worse, and they've made two great additions and return one of the better offenses in the league. The Brewers have to hope they can stay afloat without Braun for part of the season and no Fielder. The Cardinals are definitely going to miss Pujols, but Berkman needs to have another solid season and so does Beltran, but the biggest thing for them is Wainwright returning. That could still make them a dangerous team, and they can still move a starter if they want to make a trade.

If I were a Milwaukee or St Louis fan, I would not be sleeping on the Reds right now, especially since a good portion of that team is still young and the best is yet to come for many, including their starters.

Jones is definitely not worth that much, glad they turned that down.

The thing is, Jones is just 25 and the best could be yet to come, as he's had steady improvements offensively. He's already one of the best fielders, so that isn't a concern, and he is under team control for two more seasons.

I'm more pissed that the Orioles turned down this deal even without the prospect. Prado and especially Jurrjens would be huge for this team, and that frees up Reynolds for a trade to try and get a center fielder back.

Oh, and whoever the prospect was supposed to be, they probably would have made Baseball America's top 10 for the Orioles. After all, one of our top 10 came to us in the Rule 5 Draft
