I've never understood really what "Sim" is. People say its a real representation of what is seen in the NFL. If thats the case, then say I put in Shawne Merriman as my fullback, I'm almost positive the guy I'm playing would flip out and say "Thats not sim." But turn on an NFL game and watch Mike Vrabel catch a touchdown pass, watch Ronnie Brown lineup at QB, watch Joe Flacco catch a bomb. But none of those things are "Sim". So is "Sim" a true representation of the NFL?

Rush, you know damn well when it boils down to it, freestyle/tourney games end up looking like what we see on Sunday. On Sunday, coaches try everything within their power to win within the rules; they could give a crap about what the opposing coach thinks of that. Just like Singletary last Sunday: "We don't run a charity here!" ...

Of course you will do everything in your power to win the game. However there is a difference by using playcalling, personnel, and packages as opposed to rocket catching in quadruple coverage and using the same play over and over. You cannot compare freestyle/tourney playing to realistic football on sundays. The_Obst made a great point of having Vrabel in at FB, or Flacco lined up to catch a bomb. However that stuff isn't exploited or taken advantage of. EA didn't put "rocket catching" into the game, it's a clearly defined exploit in the AI of the game.

Every year tournament players don't find "new strategies" they find exploits in the game and think that it's skill. There is nothing wrong with playing freestyle, not by any means. I am just saying to say it's realistic is the most stupid thing I've ever heard outside of Point Blank having his own child.

I understand Archer, but this is the problem I've always had with the "sim" vs. Freestyle/Tourney argument; there is really nothing solid on the "sim" side to compare Freestyle/Tourney tenants to -It's just too subjective and based on emotion.

Case in point: Do you think Bellichek screamed "That's not SIM!" when the Dolphins lined up in the WildCat formation? ...

Heres my point , i played a guy in a freestyle league , all he did was rocket curls all game , i started to stop his curls , he lost ...this guy was 8-4 at the time but thats not important . It made me want to punch myself in the face repeatdly watching that every down , even though i won i felt like i should have quit and not wasted 40minutes on that crap as he didnt run another play but a qb sneak in the whole game . Maybe my rambling has no point but id rather play a sim game v someone who uses the whole playbook (ur allowed to have "Money plays aslong as u dont abuse the hell out of them") and lose than win a game v sum1 who has one offensive move. Dont get me wrong iv played many freestyle ballars who are fun to play so im not sayin all freestlyers are boring , I also beleive u said sim people are the weak ones ( i could be wrong) , i dissagree theres some really good players in sim leagues who could compete in freestyle leagues and do.

People who fly the "Sim" flag want to play the softball version of Madden -that's their prerogative; but there are some "Simmers" that will go as far to say idiotic things such as "All Freestyle/Tourney players must die!" -It's like they're mad at the fact we are having fun playing the game.

Because, madden being a GAME, there are an abundance of people who would rather play it however they felt like than follow a set of rules. Simply put it is one of the most successful because the idea of free play appeals to more online users. Doesn't make it any better or worse.

What is the most successful online Madden league? I'm part of a SIM league that has been running since Madden 07 and it has been very successful with 25 core group of guys for over a year.

I can see your side of the coin KOACHK and don't mind playing freestyle games but I like playing sim much better. It's all a matter of opinon and to say sim is better than freestyle or freestyle is better than sim is just your opinon.

Most of you guys are missing the point. The reason why HB at FB, WR at RB and stuff like that is cheese is because the game doesn't handle it properly at all.

A receiver like Coles would get completely owned in real life if he was rushing up the middle, but Madden can't represent real life like that so it's an exploit of the game.

Same with the FB Dive, the play itself is way too overpowered with the only way to consistently stop it is to have like 6+ players lined up in the middle waiting to destroy the center. With the HB in there, he will be be gaining yards a lot faster than a FB so the play is practically unstoppable unless he fumbles or you play the most cheesiest D imaginable.

Also, plays like Rocket Curls are tough to stop because the defender falls for it every time. Until EA puts a feature in that lets the defense react better once they see the same play ran over and over, this will be an exploit.

So in my opinion, "sim" is more "playing the game where nothing can be exploited" than "playing like they do on Sundays".

Both have pros and cons but to say that people who play sim want to play the softball version of Madden is just ignorant. Rocket catching is just another form of user catching; you call the right coverage and put some pressure on the QB, it can be stopped. -And if you're tyring to say it's a clearly defined glitch in the game; then you're way off because it hasn't been banned in tourneys.

To be honest with you, the best tourney ballers have very basic schemes that don't rely on exploits at all. People that solely rely on exploits get stopped and don't make it very far.

Look at the games in Madden Nation ... -Do those games really look that much different than what you see on Sunday? .... Take the Sim-Goggles off and really take a look ....

Yes they do look completely different. When do you see Chad Johnson sent in motion repeatedly and runs on a streak 5-10 times a game? How about the quarterback calling hike and then running out of the pocket right away? Do you see that on Sunday? No you don't.

By no means am I trying to impose freestyle/tournament play on anyone that doesn't want to play that way; but "sim" by it's very nature is an imposing play-style. On top of that; how can the "sim" philosopy be defended when it's not even clearly defined?

How can you say that the most successful league is a freestlye one when it's your league? Of course your gonna say that because your gonna be bias towards your league.

What makes EAFL more successful the the sim league I've been a part of since 07?

No knock on you guys. I am actually gonna check it out because I know how hard it is to find a decent league with a core group of guys.

I'm not gonna argue the sim/freestyle debate because it is all a matter of opinon. And I think MvP's post above stated it best.

Eafl is the most well known league out there and probably the most succesful its a GREAT league , i myself was part of it not to long ago and id reccomend it to anyone ....the dude won his division and has beaten some ppl who are supposed to be good so he was hardly a BUM lol.... clearly others cudnt stop it either . Eafl is a great league and clearly amazingly well ran thats why its the most succesful not because its freestyle and not sim , more because u have a dedicated base and commishes who work non stop to improve things (radio shows etc etc etc....)

However i will say theres alot of differnce between eafl players and most of the scrubs u find in east lobby so there is a difference between lg freestyle games and lobby games
