Curious to hear who Canes fans want?

#1 on the list of the University is Gruden. Kirby Hocutt has already thrown his name out to the BOT. Do we have the money to afford him, even if Gruden gives us the "just want to have fun" discount? Probably need to pay him 3M+ to make it happen.

There are 5-7 names on the list...Gruden, Malzahn, Venables, Patterson amongst those known about.

Tuberville is a fail safe, of sorts...

Miami is in a better position today, to hire a big name coach than they were 4 years ago. More money available, better talent on the roster, and on the brink of a major rehabilitation of the athletic department due to some major donations.\

Four years ago, didn't have the money, no money being thrown our way, talent at a 30 year low.

He peaked as a recruiter 6 or 7 years ago, and a few of those players on the really good Rutgers teams werent even his (Leonard, for starters).

Rutgers still has some good pieces on that squad...a move to Miami, he could lure recruits to a better spot IMO.

Schiano isn't a bad coach, but he'd be in over his head at a major University. At a school like Rutgers, where there are no expectations for sustained success, Schiano can do what he does.

If he didn't have a previous connection to Miami, Schiano wouldn't even be remotely considered for the job. I doubt the next coach has any connection to Miami...more than likely someone from the Oklahoma lineage of coaches (Hocutt has ties) over a Miami connection.

As for Schiano at Rutgers...it isn't that he has lost all of his talent...they have some talented kids...just not using them right. He's fallen in love with the single wing recently.

What is the difference between Randy and Schiano and what they'd put together on a Miami football field...I doubt very little, despite I think Schiano would do better at Rutgers than Randy would.

Schiano is just a glass ceiling kind of guy. Deserving for a job better than Rutgers for sure...but not an elite job...he's gotta show he can now take an average team to good...he's already proven he can take a bad team to average.

Schiano turned down the Miami job last time...silly chimp. I dont think he'd be considered this time.

I think we can both agree you guys have the inside track on the most talented group of football players in the nation. I think you and I are are on the same page for the most part.

What made Miami great in the past was Schnellenberger (spelled wrong I think, too tired to look it up) and Jimmy Johnson selling their kids not only into their system, but that they where the best CFB team in the nation. You need a strong presense with a track record of success.

You guys were not that far this year, you were looked at as serious contenders before the OSU game.

Patterson was the name that immediately jumped in my head as well. Not sure he'd leave to take over there though as TCU is arguably the best program in Texas right now.
