They fired him because they thought he didn't rush the ball enough and promptly rushed the ball even fewer times the next season and went to 30th overall in rushing attempts. They also went down by over a point per game in scoring.

He managed to do all of that with below average quarterbacks, and some questionable lines. I'm curious to see what Martz can do with probably the most talented NFL quarterback he's coached yet (not counting Warner, because who knew he was going to be that good?) Jay Cutler is smart enough to run the offense, I just question how much he really cares about the game, and the players around him. If Martz can fix Cutler's attitude, that will be an accomplishment itself. If Cutler decides to focus on football and becoming an actual leader, more than matching egos with Martz, the sky is the limit.

I'm just happy Turner is gone.

Hopefully Martz can turn our offense into a threat. I don't know how Cutler's attitude is going to be considering I heard that he didn't want Martz coming to Chicago.

Because no one else would offer him a job.
 
The differences between Turner and Martz playcalling is going to be so drastic that I fully expect many overweight Bears fans to die of a heart attack due to over excitement this season.
 
If anyone can keep Martz's ego in check, it's probably Lovie. This is the best spot for Martz to succeed as an OC. There's little doubt that the Bears will be better offensively next year, but will the improved offense turn into wins, or will this be another undisciplined Martz offense that puts up nothing more than fantasy football stats?
 
The one thing that bothers me is the fact that one reason that Martz was fired from San Francisco is because Singletary wanted to run the ball more...

Plus, no TE in Martz's offense has never caught more than 38 passes I believe in his offense. His 7 step drops essentially make the TE a 3rd OT since they have to stay in and block, which is what happened to Vernon Davis w/ Martz as his OC. And, Olsen is an awful blocker, which doesn't bode well for Martz's long developing plays down the field.

He played w/ an MCL sprain and a slightly torn hamstring, and he didn't say a word. Add that to a bad O-Line and you have a back that underachieved.

Gore ran the ball more under Martz than he did this year . The 49ers went away from Gore a little bit late in the season when Smith started showing some promise in the gun

I'll make another prediction then.

Jay Cutler will have more wins than Kyle Orton in 2010, when he finishes above .500 as starter, for the first time in his career. Mike Martz made Marc Bulger a pro bowl quarterback, and Bulger doesn't have even half the talent that Jay Cutler has. Mike Martz made Shaun McDonald look like a #1 WR in 2007. Unless there's a major clash of egos, Jay Cutler will be a more disciplined football player in 2010.

I'm still picking Green Bay to make the superbowl, though.
 
Without reading back through every post, I caution Bears fans to hope their backup QB is solid. Martz's system produces lots of yards and points when ran properly but his QBs take tons of hits. Even when he ran the greatest show on turf, Warner ended a lot of plays on his back.
