Boulware I'll give some credit as he played ROUGHLY 8 seasons for Baltimore.

J.O. was a key attribute to the franchise for his entire career. But Ray Lewis was and still is hands down one of the key contributors to why the Ravens are successful. His demeanor on the field alone, makes players up there game. Obviously one man doesn't make a team, but Ray Lewis is and will always be the face of the Ravens Franchise and he is a MLB...

To me, he's the equivalent of Tom Brady to the Pats or Peyton Manning to the Colts.

Yeah why mention two very good starters who were huge contributors to a historically great defense? The point is that the drafting of Ray Lewis didn't "alter the course" of that franchise. They acquired a lot of good players before and after they drafted him. Chris McAlister, Jamal Lewis, etc. say hello as well.

Guys, i'm not saying there are no great MLB's or that great MLB's can not contribute to a winning team.

But it should be fairly obvious that a HOF caliber QB makes a far bigger impact than a HOF caliber MLB. Which is why teams hardly ever take a position like MLB 1st overall, and in many cases will gamble with a QB rather than take a player who is more of a sure thing at another less impactful position.

Pointing out outlier examples like Ray Lewis or Sonny Jurgensen doesn't really prove anything.

Dick Butkus played for two winning teams & never played in a postseason game.

He played on four "top ten" defenses, but all of them were pre merger in eithr 15 or 16 team leagues. Three of his teams finished in the top half of the league in defense.

Again, this doesn't prove anything. packerfan4life found a HOF QB who played for shitty teams.

35 out of 46 SB winning teams had HOF or future HOF QB's (I counted Brady, both Mannings, Warner, Rodgers, Rapelisberger, & Brees, I don't want to argue about any of them so feel free to knock any of them off if you wish, but i'd say they are all locks or close to locks aside from maybe Eli).

I count 11 MLB's (PackersX2, Chiefs, DolphinsX2, SteelersX4, Ravens, Giants), but that's just from glancing at the teams and going off my head, so I could be off by a few. The point is, by this extremely unscientific measure, it's not even close.

edit- make it 12, I forgot Singletary, but really we could quibble about Harry Carson who played in a 3-4, but I won't. ILB/MLB, same function and impact.
