Just like so many of you criticized and doubted Andrew Luck, Barkley will show you why he is the best QB prospect in this class and will do well in the NFL.

Andrew Luck is 6'4 230 and a great athlete who carried shitbum WRs to near the top of the Pac 12 for three years.

Barkley is 6'1 215 at best and a poor athlete who is playing with two first round WRs who get tons of YAC.

I don't know who these legions of Luck doubters were but I wasn't one of them.

I think Barkley starts to slip the minute his accurate measureables are taken just as he would have last year.

If a football god told me that this MLB was a 100% lock future hall of famer, and Barkley was at 25%, i'd take Barkley.

A hall of fame QB changes your team for a decade. You can be terrible every year with a hall of fame MLB.

I would think the success of Ray Lewis , Brian Urlacher and Patrick Willis would weigh heavier in that choice. If you throw in guys like Nickerson,Tuggle,Fletcher as HOF "Type" MLBers then yes youd be 100% correct. But if you're talking elite of elite MLB ,they can just as well change the direction of a franchise. IMO its pretty easy to find a QB to toss it around for 3500 yards but someone who's almost guaranteeing your defense is capable of being top grade year in year out is invaluable and very much worthy of the no1 pick over a guy whos more than likely going to tank your franchise in mediocrity for the next 5 years. How many complete busts are there at MLB ?

 

Id have to look..but I think its ironic none of the great MLBs played with a HOF QB since the 70s.

2002- David Carr (#1 overall)-bust. Somehow still in the league as a back-up.
Joey Harrington- bust. Overrated in college. Remember Oregon's Heisman campaign for him.

2003- Carson Palmer (#1 overall)- would love to see him on a decent team next year.

Vick could also throw a ball through a brick wall coming out of VT.

But yeah the two aren't even on the same planet in terms of athletic ability. Barkley is certainly more ready to go from day one than Vick but nowhere near the prospect.

All it takes is a good stretch for one QB and it changes the whole game. With a good week in Mobile or a good Pro Day, anyone could jump up boards fast. It's still early and things are still taking shape.

A linebacker at #1 was a pretty silly idea 10 years ago. Now, it's just retarded. And I'm a defensive guy, and I love Teo. But look at previous projected top 5 prospects at LB. Guys like Curry, Hawk, McClain, and Ernie Sims. They didn't just fail to live up to expectations, they flat out stunk.

LOL my hate for USC is well known? I have no real CFB allegiance but I'm far from a USC hater. I have much love for the program but that doesn't make Matt Barkley any taller or faster or throw the ball any harder.

I've been watching this kid for 8 years since he was at Mater Dei and he's the same guy he is now that he was then. He's a great leader and person as well as a great football mind but he's not really elite at anything beyond what is going on inside that helmet.

If there is such a thing as a "freak" when you are as small as Drew Brees...Drew Brees would be it.

There hasn't been a better QB in the history of the game with his mastery of the passing lanes behind an offensive line (seriously, he's an amazing quarterback in that regard). Being short has allowed him to develop that part of his game, especially in Joe Tiller's offense at Purdue, where passing lanes were his friend. Beyond that, his hands are huge. Drew Brees has hands bigger than most QBs who are six inches taller than him and 50 pounds heavier. It allows him to make the bigger throws. Once he got his mechanics down in the NFL, he was able to make every throw in the league. Couple it with his mastery of the pocket and passing lanes...you have made one of the most productive quarterbacks of his era and All-Time.

That is why, projecting quarterbacks is so difficult. How in the fuck can you project a guy to develop his mechanics like Brees has. How do project a players pocket awareness and mastering of passing lanes? You just don't. It is what makes projecting QBs so damn difficult. The great ones are great for reasons that you can't quite measure coming out of college.
