Why does that matter? Who cares about the past, as long he has performed well this last season.

Matt Cassell has played almost one full season in his entire career. He has zero postseason starts. I would think that a player would have to show more consistency on a year-to-year basis before we can accurately gauge his abilities. To claim that Matt Cassell is comparable to Kurt Warner because they both played well last year is absurd. Warner is a proven commodity, Cassell isn't.

I think if we make any assumption about Cassell, its that he was a serviceable QB surrounded by great talent. The 2008 Pats passing offense was arguably the best in NFL history. There is a HUGE difference between that factual statement and your description of the Pats as a "good team". There was a big drop-off between the 2008 Pats offense and the 2009 Pats offense.

Again, I only brought up Warner as a counterpoint to raiderfan, I'm not trying to compare the two, which I stated before.

And again i'm not saying Cassel will or will not do well.

The only point that I was trying to make is that you cannot judge a QB by the talent around him. Thats it.

And FWIW, the Pats, in the second half of the season averaged 32 points and 451 yards a game.

But you'd have to take the surrounding talent into consideration when you are judging a player who has played about 1 season total in his career. I would be more impressed if Cassell put up similar numbers on the Chiefs rather than the Patriots. Wouldn't you?

Heartily agree that its impossible to accurately judge a QB without taking surrounding talent into account to some degree. Football is still a team game, and the team matters.

Yes I agree, I am saying that you can't assume that he couldn't do it with another team just because the team he performed well with was good, which was pretty much my very first point, trying to refute that he was just decent who played with stars, cause you won't know until he plays with someone else

LOL, so you can't make ANY judgment on Matt Cassell? Thats quite a counter-intuitive argument you have there. In my estimation, Cassell had a nice year and deserves a prolonged look as a starter. He didn't overwhelm me. I was actually more impressed with Joe Flacco. Does that make me crazy?

well obviously you can have an opinion, what got me into this was that it annoyed me that people were so sure that he was just a "system QB", and that he was likely to fall on his face, and I said there was no way to know that (like most things), but I guess i might have gone off in a few tangents lol

Here is my take on Cassel last year. I thought he was a little two inconsistent at times and it really hurt us. He had trouble playing against good defenses. I can really only count a handful of games that I can say were good games:Second Miami game, Denver, Arizona,second half of the Jets game, and the Oakland Gayders game. Those were the only games where I could of actually said "wow he had a great game". There might of been other games where he had an ok performance but those games I mentioned really stuck out. That being said I actually do think the chiefs are an ok fit for him. He lives off the short pass and Tony Gonzalez and Dwayne Bowe will definitely help him out with it.

I can see why Mcdaniels would prefer Cassel over Cutler too. He has coached Cassel since he was drafted so he was very familiar with Cassel. Cutler does have an attitude problem so maybe Mcdaniels didnt want a QB with the attitude. Kinda the same reason some teams dont want TO.

Now do I believe Cassel is worth a first round pick? NO. But I was very surprised that we didnt get one. But then again if Sage Rosenfels is worth a 4th round pick then Cassel obviously has to worth at least a second round pick.
