That is a very solid connection for online gaming. Does your apartment complex have a shared fiber node or something? 10ms pings are hella good.

Not sure what connect they have here. All I know is that its very sensitive. When there is a storm, cable and internet drops easy

my advice would be if your ISP is also your Cable HD/TV
AND
your area has Verizon FioS available......

do some research and should consider the change....
right now; they practically giving away their Double-Play-Package; without an anual contract, for $89 per month...

its reliable and solid......i have NOT had any outages since hurricane Katrina and was to actual power outages.

Comcast sucked in my area........so; i told them to get lost. they offered all kinds of bonuses but i said "forget it, MFers i am going FioS"!!!!

It's most likely not your isp or the psn... It's ea making xbox games then turning then into ps3 games. No other online game plays as laggy as any ea gm. Fuck ea and their shitty monopoly.

I play tons of online games and have no lag issue. Madden though is a different story. You can't keep saying get a new ISP because I play NHL, StarCraft, BF, etc and have no lag issues.

Rarely is the ISP at fault considering you don't even need that good of a connection to play online games. Most has to do with poor home networks or bad network design on the developers end.

I kinda laughed at some of the speed tests you guys were showing.

i know i made the right choice for what i wanted and needed.
and from my experience, not just from online gaming, the overall satisfaction of HDTV and Internet has been far superior than the past.
i even upgraded to Quantam FioS when it was time to renew my Verizon Contract......which only came out to an additional $30 per month from regular FioS. i get the same HD channels; upgraded internet speed 150/50 (DL/UL).

If someone just wanted basic internet to play some games and watch youtube an easy 5mb dsl connection would work. Having an internet speed of 150/50 is plain retarded unless you have some major data usage going on.

Yes and no. While you don't need some of the insane connections most of these guys have to play online games, some providers do have congested uplinks (or over utilized peering NNI's) that can cause jitter and packet loss. Those are the two biggest factors in a gaming connection. This type of situation does seem to be more prevalent in smaller ISPs as they cut corners to be a cost leader. If the home router or connection is bad, that is pretty easy to spot with a traceroute.

I've said several times in the thread that nothing more than a stable 768k connection is required for gaming. The other stuff is overkill for web media/bit torrenting/porn surfing.

Yet Humble has twice the bandwidth to his house. Must be nice to d/l at 15MB/sec I guess....should you even find many connections that can provide that.

So you're pretty much not using it for anything other then over paying for something you don't need. My internet is a write off for me as well but its not free thats for sure.

Run pingtest and post the results. A little jitter can have a big impact on gaming.
