Purcey sent down as Castro injured

​

TORONTO, ON (AP) -- A day after being shelled for five runs in one inning, David Purcey's season is over. On Wednesday Purcey was sent down to Double-A after making his first relief apperance of the year in which he was blown up by the Twins, a day after making a bad start in which he gave up seven runs in six innings.

"It's tough man but obviously they didn't feel I'm performing so hopefully I can come back next year and get a chance." Purcey said before flying to his home in Oklahoma.

Purcey finished the year 8-8 with a 5.21 ERA in his sophomore season and recently lost his rotation spot to rookie Luis Perez after a string of bad starts. Replacing Purcey on the roster is former 5th overall pick Ricky Romero, one of the most conterversial picks in MLB history due to fact the Jays passed over numerous future stars by picking Romero, a right handed pitcher out of Long Beach State. Romero had gone 4-1 with a 5.00 ERA in Triple-A Las Vegas and is expected to be a sixth starter in the rotation.

"I'm excited for the chance and I'm interested to see how I do in my first major league callup." Romero said via telephone.

The Jays also lost reliever Fabio Castro to shoulder inflammation last night. Castro had been warming up in the bullpen when he suddenly experienced tightness in his air according to pitching coach Brad Arnsberg and was taken to a specialist who pronounced the Dominican born left hander's season over before it began.

"It's tough since Castro looked like a bright young kid but hopefully our other relievers can step up and feel his spot." Manager Cito Gaston said yesterday.

Ye Perry has like 46 saves or something for Toledo and Ryan is backing up Treanor I think, I play the Tigers next so we'll see how I do.
Hessman has been up and down from hte majors and minors all season in my chise and has something like 9 homers
I did check and the the Tigers are starting both young guys, Lambert and Bonine so we'll see how they do.

And yes it was a tough loss, :smh:
