Just wanted to say this before I start to attempt to catch up, but I am surprised you didnt deal Halladay. I mean, you probably could have gotten a nice haul for him.

I was thiking about it but I decided instead that I was going to try and contend so I kept Halladay and traded for Adrian Beltre

I knew he was a first overall pick but I didnt know he was with Pittsburgh, was he any good or was there a reason he never made the big leagues?

lol, they are having a tough year this year, they have no offense and their pitching is horrendous but they did sweep the Yanks which helped me alot

He was alright, but had no where near the ability of a #1 pick. Think he fucked up his arm the one year and was never the same.

Pretty sure that was the year the Pirates passed over BJ Upton in favor of Bullington. One of the many bad moves by them.

Jays can't afford anymore fluke losses going into season's home stretch

TORONTO, ON (AP) -- Cito Gaston was fuming.

Not at his team, but at himself after a 7th inning solo shot by Yuniesky Betancourt gave the Seattle Mariners a 5-4 lead over the Toronto Blue Jays that would prove insurmountable. All because he wanted to give rookie pitcher Fabio Castro one more batter.

Castro was making his first apperance in relief since he sustained a calf injury that kept him out two weeks during his first major league apperance. When Castro was inserted, the Blue Jays were losing 4-3 after a big fourth inning from the Mariners hitters due to some suspect control issues from starter Bryan Bullington. However, Castro's control was on point and he would strike out the first two batters and finish his first major league inning, 1-2-3.

"I felt good, my control was good, I was getting velocity on my pitches so I asked Cito if I could go out for the 7th as well." Castro said last night.

Gaston obliged the young Dominican born right hander but would realize his mistake one pitch into the inning as Castro served up a beach ball to the Mariners leadoff hitter that would give the major's worst team the lead for good last night.

"It's the smallest thing, maybe, but in a stretch run like this every mistake counts and every mistake like leaving Castro in could end up costing us a playoff berth," Gaston said after the game, "I am angry at myself but I wouldn't have done anything different because at the time, even if Castro didn't ask, I would have left him in."

Losing to the now 49-104 Mariners in Thursday's series opener was a crippling blow to a team battling for the final American League playoff spot with the New York Yankees. It was a game that was vitally important to the Jays as a win would put them only one game behind the Yankees for the Wildcard slot in the American League. Now the Jays have nine games left to make up a two game lead over the most expensive team in baseball, something Gaston knows could be a lot less if those little mistakes didn't come back to bite sometimes, but as we have learned this season, anything can happen in baseball.
