MLB Chise Trade Talks

I'm playing a Rays chise just on my own, and here's the deal. Grant Balfour and Aki Iwamura have both been horrid for me and I need one more solid bat, mainly a good contact/doubles hitter to solidify the bottom half of my order.

Here's an offer I have on the table:

Rays receive:
2B Freddy Sanchez
RP Sean Burnett
D Prospect

Pirates receive:
2B Aki Iwamura
RP Grant Balfour
SS Reid Brignac

The main reason I'm going after Sanchez is because his name has been mentioned in trade rumors. Granted, the Pirates may or may not want two big leaguers in return (could be opting for more youth), but Brignac is a solid SS prospect stuck behind Tim Beckham. Aki is great defensively. I basically get the prototype of what I'm looking for - a good contact and doubles hitter. Burnett also could be a decent lefty arm out of my pen.

is brignac B potential? whats the contract situation with balfour/aki

Yeah Brignac is B potential, good guy to have if they want to trade Jack Wilson.

Balfour has 1 year and $580K left on his deal, while Iwamura has a year and $700K left, so they're both pretty cheap. Sanchez is due $3M this year in the last year of a deal and would probably leave Pittsburgh anyway. If I got him he would definitely be a priority to re-sign.

i like it because their both on the last year of their contracts, but how about switching balfour with a B potential reliever or B potential starter, sanchez is fairly valuable

ight guys in my Orioles chise i'm in need of a shortstop because Cesar Izturis is playing really bad and isn't getting the job done, the backup Robert Andino does well but his rating is very low so he gets tired very easily. so i looked at the trading block and the Astros have Miguel Tejada on it and they want a SP and an INF in return so do you think it would realistic to do this trade?

Not really familiar with the O's farm team but you would probably have to give up a young arm or two. Maybe a B and a C prospect considering Tejada's age and only one year left on his contract.

Doesn't really make sense to give up their talented (but aging) SS in Tejada for a crappy and aging SS and a pretty bad arm.

Branyan has some great power in-game though, especially against righties. Probably just a decent prospect, maybe a pitcher or OF.

uhh, you won't get a lot, I don't even think you'd get a Russ Adams type player with that

And this is another situation of a team trying to trade for a player that they traded away previously.



Costanzo was rated #6 by BA in the Astros system at the time.
Albers was #3 prospect
Patton was #2 prospect
Sarfate was a 9th rd pick; currently in BAL bullpen
Scott is currently kicking some major arse for BAL.

The situation is 2 years ago BAL traded Tejada for 3 of the top 6 prospects in the Astros system, and 2 other guys that would be on Baltimore's major league team ... including one that is putting up All-Star numbers.

So, 2 years later, one is asking what to give up for Tejada.

The short answer would be "a lot".

I would forget about the deal and either:

[1] Acknowledge that every major league team has guys that are going to underperform or not be wanted ... nor desired by other teams. Demote them or bench them. But, unfortunately, you're stuck with them. This'll be the case on every team. Fortunately, they don't have huge contracts.
[2] Improve your gaming skills so they are not as much of liability. (this applies to all of us).

Trading for an all-star without giving up some of your top prospects should not be a possibility.

I know the Tejada trade is old news, but I was just trying to give some idea of the thought that might go into a trade possibility. I don't see anyone being interested in Eaton or Izturis.

Izturis has been in the majors since 2001 and been traded twice, purchased once, and signed as a free agent twice, with both teams allowing his contract to run out and become a free agent. He was, however, traded for Greg Maddux as a "trade deadline" deal.

Eaton, likewise, has been traded twice and released once. He has been a part of one of the WORST trades in recent memory. (see below)

The Braves definitely could. I'm not sure how many fit your criteria...Garret Anderson is old, but we have two righties in Martin Prado and Omar Infante

According to Baseball America (Top 100 Prospects):

The Phillies have:
#48 Dominic Brown (OF)
#52 Carlos Carrasco (RHP)
#66 Lou Marson (C)
#69, Jason Donald (SS)

I'm skeptical that all of these guys count as "A prospects", but one would likely need to include all of them, or remove one and insert a guy like Jason Werth or something.

The Blue Jays ain't trading Hallday (this year) unless they get an overwhelming offer. If not traded this year (or off-season), next year he'll likely be a "Trade Deadline Assassin" like CC was for the Brewers last year.

Looking through the White Sox list, they appear loaded with prospects ... but also aging MLB players.

The Phils are getting ready to sign Pedro, which *might* bring some pitching help to the squad.

brown is an A, and lou and donald probably are because of the depth of talent in their respected positions imo. but yeah id take a deal with all 4 if i were the jays
