Most boring, mundane NFL season I can ever remember

You know what really puts a damper on the whole game is the new calls.

I get really annoyed watching a game where a guy makes a great hit and gets penalized for it.

Agree, its incredible how strong legal hits are being outlawed from the game. Most of the flags for illegal hits seem like good football to me.

One reason for the unappealing football...terrible head coaches. Guys who are too scared of their owners or for their jobs to do anything out of the ordinary. Then you have absolute retards like Mike Smith of Atlanta, whose team wins in spite of him. I remember in the 1980's when you had guys like Don Coryell, Bill Walsh, Mike Ditka...guys whose teams all did things differently yet usually won (or at least were interesting). Even in the late 90's and early 2000's, you had Tony Dungy's and Jimmy Johnson's who at the very least were regarded as "winners". Now we have guys like Tony Sparano, who you wouldn't even recognize if you walked past him.

I like Mike Smith (terrible decision v. New Orleans aside) so let me first say fuck you, but also that I agree with you. As you said, NFL coaches used to have a brand, or a distinct style of play, but now with the players turning over every season, nearly every system in the league is interchangeable. Assimilating players quickly is more important than innovation.

Soon the NFL will be like the NHL where every coach is just a generic guy in a suit, or in this case a generic guy in a standard issue Reebok windbreaker.

Even worse, when guys don't even get flagged and then get fined after the fact. James Harrison is basically not allowed to hit guys anymore.

Only close exciting non Tebow games seem to be setup very NBA like where teams just suddenly score at will while the other team is helpless making it look like theres excitement. NFL has always been about big plays...game breaking plays could happen at anytime...in the current NFL theyre all meaningless as scoring is so easy itll come down to the last 5 mins anyway.
