NBA-worst Wizards fire coach Flip Saunders
The Washington Wizards, after an NBA-worst 2-15 start, fired Coach Flip Saunders on Tuesday, a person with knowledge of the dismissal told USA TODAY.
The person, who requested anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly, also said assistant coach Randy Wittman will take over on an interim basis.
The Wizards were blown out 103-83 at the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday, a game in which they trailed 62-32 at halftime, with the 76ers shooting 65%. It was Washington's third loss in a row.
After an 0-8 start, Washington has lost seven of its last eight games.
Wittman, previously head coach with the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Cleveland Cavaliers, will get his first test Wednesday when the 3-14 Charlotte Bobcats play at Washington.
