Agreed. Plus when Allen retires that money obviously opens back up and you can make some free agency moves. I really like Mirotic coming over in the next year or two as well.

IMO this is the downside of what the Heat did, because realistically unless you get multiple superstars you aren't going to be able to compete with Miami. Teams simply won't be able to compete, because there won't be enough stars to go around and even if you do get another one you're going to have to gut your team and hope role players want to sign for the minimum. Its not just about throwing muliple stars together and rolling out the balls, but actually bringing in the stars that have skillsets that match. These is why the Knicks suck, because Stoudemire and Anthony don't mix and the rest of the players simply aren't good enough or don't fit with what Stoudemire and Anthony do. I say all of this, because IMO Rose and Anthony wouldn't be a good mix, as both need the ball in their hands.

Even though Bulls fans don't want to face the facts they need the 2nd option. We're going to have to trade the depth to get someone else that warrants a look on defense. As it stands now it's Derrick and 4 guys standing around at the end of the game.

Derrick Rose is going to turn into Allen Iverson....a very talented player leading a mediocre team to 55+ wins every year.

Pretty much. The Heat are only going to keep getting deeper too with their ability to use some MLE's and having some quality veterans wanting to come play and chase rings.

The window for the Bulls to beat the Heat is quickly closing and IMO the Knicks are a better coach away from overtaking the Bulls in the nex year or two as well.

Lottery(Top 14) protected this year. Top 12 protected next season. Top 10 protected the year after then unprotected in 2015..I think that's how it shakes out.

Now that I think back I think the Nuggets-Bulls trade was something like: (Reportedly)

The Bulls wanted to send Deng and Noah and possibly a pick to Denver for Melo.

Denver wanted something like Noah, Gibson, Picks (and various contracts) for Melo.

To be honest though, I don't like Melo's game at all. i was solely on the "let's do that trade" at the time but the more I watch Melo the more I absolutely can't stand his game.

I'm not exactly sure if Chicago is a better team with Melo overall.

The Rose-Melo dynamic would possibly be more wierd then him and Amare' plus his lack of effort or ability on defense would have driven Thibs to killing him by now.

You'd be in a better spot giving up less in a Ray Allen trade imo.

But Melo is a possession killer no matter what team he's on. You give him the ball it's going up. That's not a great style to play anymore. Especially not with a team like the Bulls that would have a few extra options with Rose on the team.

Career Usage Rate of 31.3%.

Derrick Rose who we'd all say literally does everything for the Bulls is still only 27.4%. The only person Melo is even anywhere near is Michael Jordan (career 33.3%), LeBron his last year in Cleveland or Kobe in his least successful years.

If he can somehow STOP Carmelo-ISO and actually move the ball in the flow of an offense maybe I'd be more up for the deal but he hasn't really shown that.

It's a similar thing imo

Two players who require the ball for most of the possesion and have shown little effort to move without the ball when they don't have it.

I'd also add in that Melo has added the nasty habit of taking bad shots this year. (he loves long two's for some reason now, refuses to post-up like Karl always had him do).

Rose is going to be frozen out of nearly every possesion that Melo starts with the ball. (same thing Amare is suffering with)

The unfortunate part about Melo is that he has a smooth mid-range game with the ability to shoot off the dribble or catch and shoot. He also is a monster in the post. However, under D'Antoni he's developed bad habits, because D' Antoni sucks.

Well I wouldn't totally blame D'Antoni.

Karl had to fight him non-stop about those habits in Denver and even then he never managed to totally kick them.

Exactly. This isn't something new. Karl had to beat it into his head to get him to even post up a little bit more, which he did for a time.

Once he got to a coach who wasn't riding his ass constantly like D'Antoni he went right back into his habits.

Worse yet, he holds the ball WAAAY too much. The other players on the floor have no idea what to do while Melo goes into business for himself and starts his iso.

That's pretty skewed by playing on Denver teams that pretty much wanted him to be "the guy". They wanted the ball in his hands.

I hate how usage rate is now used as some ball hog stat. Look at guys like Kobe, Lebron, Wade, etc in their careers. High usage rates. Elite scorers like Melo are going to have high usage rates. It's just the nature of the beast.

This year so far he's trailing both Lebron and Kobe(according to ESPN)

His career rate is lower than Wade, James, Kobe according to Basketball Reference.

I just don't see the big deal about his usage rate especially given how great a scorer he is.
