NCAA Dynasty Update Thread

Won our 2012 opener @ Syracuse 41-34! Dillon Baxter was POTG with 23 car for 181 yds and 2 TDs.

Matt Barkley went 17-32 for 388 with 3 TD and 2 INTs. WRs Kyle Prate and Robert Wood went off as well. Prater had 9 rec for 171 yds and Woods had 3 rec for 111 yds and 2 TDs.

We have a bye next week and then we will play Cal at home.

Right now I sit at 4-4 with Florida State. We got blown out by #1 Alabama, lost a tough one to #12 Virginia Tech, self-destructed and threw 4 picks including a game-losing pick6 against unranked Wake Forest, and finally Pitt just plain beat me.

My QB play is killing me... also the lack of playmakers offensively outside of my overburdened running back.

Finished the roster with the head coaching changes. I put a coach on the staff to replace a coordinator if a coordinator left to be a head coach. Other than that, I didn't mess with coordinators. If you want to download it, just type in my VSN name for the file.

Started a new OC with Buffalo (terrible). Wanted an ongoing challenge along with my miami dynasty. Yikes, lets see how this goes.

Probably as good as my FIU one is going. I am throwing like 40-50 passes a game because my WR's can't catch or run a route, and my defence is always behind so I have to continue with a huge offence.

Won my first game last night but the defence almost tossed it. Was up 35-10 in the 4th quarter. They score 20 points despite me having the ball inside their 40 about 2-3 times, and the damn kicker can't aim worth shit. Lucky we held them off and got the first win out of the way, but god damn my QB is having to do a lot of work.

Although as I pointed out in the OD forum, that amount of throwing has really helped my throwing game and how I play now. Having to worry about being sacked all the time with FIU makes me using my QB with NCSU a lot better.

Kind of on this note, does anyone change their offence to fit the school they go to? Or do you just keep you stuff the same and do things the way you do them? I want to run the ball down your throat..45+ attempts on the ground isnt out of the question for me. But if I go to a school that's an Air Raid school or something, I'll usually try to stay with what they have going and abandon my running system. Do you look at the personel and go from there?

After the win over Syracuse, we are in a bye week and I am just doing some recruiting. I offer a scholarship to RB Andrew Wolfe out of Yorba Linda, CA. He is a 4-star prospect and the #11 RB in the country. He went ahead and gave us a commitment on the spot.

I was also pursuing 2-star (yes, I know 2-star, but, I don't always go by the "star" rating. Sometimes the guy has a certain skill-set) RB Blake Scott (JUCO) out of Cypress, CA. He was the only other RB I went after, with Wolfe's commit and the number of other young backs I have, I am dropping him from my list and will likely pursue another position player. Likely another CB.


***EDIT*** Just picked up another commitment! This time it came from LB Micah Wright out of Novato, CA. He's a little small at 6-2 219, but, He will likely see very little action his first season anyway and he'll get bigger. He was a 4-star recruit and the 16th ranked OLB in the country.

Also, I am just realizing that I might not even be around next season lol - my contract with USC is up after this season and I may not be around to see this recruiting class...crazy...I love the CC!

But if I go to a school that's an Air Raid school or something, I'll usually try to stay with what they have going and abandon my running system. Do you look at the personel and go from there?

Because I don't really have a playbook, I picked FIU's book and went with it. I had no idea what they were until I got into the game and when I found they had pistol and shotgun only, I was like "well fuck, guess I am throwing". But I wanted to explore other playbooks and try new things because it gets boring using the same thing over and over. I am normally a run first person as well, but after yesturday it is nice to know I can throw. I was 12/13 last night for like 216 yards against Twigg and I will say I know it helped being a shit FIU team and throwing. I have to be more alert with them because my line sucks, my WR's suck, and my QB is only like a 70-75 or something, so he isn't even good.

I guess also it depends on how you want to run your offence. If you go to every school and change the way it goes then ok. Like if I play this season and we suck balls at throwing, then maybe a nice twist to the story is changing up the playbook and doing something else. But as it is, I am enjoying the throwing game, so hopefully it works out.

Just beat unranked Cal 38-10. Barkley was POTG going 19-33 for 307yds and 3 TDs. Dillon Baxter, again, went for 100+yds and a TD.

Kyle Prater continues to dominate with 8 rec and 101 yds. WRs Brice Butler and Robert Woods had long TD receptions of 54yds (Woods) and 76yds (Butler).

I am really comfortable running the One Back offense. However, I like to use the more traditional concepts of Dennis Erickson and Mike Price. What that really results in, for me anyway, is a lot of hot routes and audibles since the NCAA PBs as a whole kind of suck and the offense requires reading the defense.

Best part about the One Back is that you can win running 40+ times and passing 40+ times. Just get to the line, watch the safeties, read the number of defenders in the box and audible or hot route to a play that will work and BAM! It's no magic pill mind you, but, it is more effective than some of the PBs in the game.

So my point is that I don't have to change my offense. I just read the D and adjust the play on the fly. May sound cheesy or simplistic, but, more teams than you think use these concepts IRL.

It's pretty much how I have made this young man into a BEAST!

I have ONE receiver who is a god damn beast. He had lik 12 catches for 225 yards and two TD's. My QB is alright just really innacurate. Finished 15-33 for 305 yards, 2 TD, 4 INT.

Next game is against FCS WOOHOOOO!

Also I have already had 4 insta ccommits! A 3 star hb and a couple two star lineman.

And I dont even wanna talk about how bad my running game is.

Just got upset by EMU 45-28. Their RB was running all over my team. A transfer from Northwestern (plays for IRL), #29 Mike Trumpy, got hurt late in 3Q but it was too late to come back.

Just had a real tough battle against Colorado. We pulled it out 31-21 after being down 21-17 at half.

The beauty of this game though, was that my one back offense displayed the kind of balance and efficiency you would want. This was a grind-it-out game for me as we ran the ball 41 times and passed the football just 24 times. We racked up 619 yards of total offense though!

RB Dillon Baxter was POTG with 292 yards rushing and 2 TDs.

We move to 3-0 (2-0) on the season. Our next two games are against a tough #11 Utah team and #6 Oregon. I'm hoping our offense can continue to grow and blossom as I have seen over the last few games. We came in ranked #13 and stayed there.

In the same game that I discovered a star, I lost a star *sobs*.

My running game was terrible against Pitt and my HB's all have speed under 83. So I said, FUCK it, lets see how my backup corner does. He did amazing. I mean I know it was FCS, but my school literally has the same ratings as theirs lol. He got knocked out for 3 weeks, but in the 3 quarters he played he rushed for 61 yards on 22 carries and scored a TD. My true freshman QB, that did ok against Pitt, went off against FCS going 15/27 for 300 yards and 4 TD's (before he too suffered a game ending injury).

We won 44-17.

Next game is against Ball St and I actually have high hopes. My QB is decently accurate and has speed. I just wish my superstar CB/RB wasn't out .

You've got quite a challenge ahead of you running with Buffalo. The 4 insta-commits are nice, but, know in the back of your mind that you might not even be around to "coach 'em up" with the CC going round and round.

The best thing about the CC is the wave of emotions you go through during a game. Sometimes I get so pissed at our defense and other times I am simming the plays and singing their praises. It definitely seems like upsets are more likely this year due to not having control over one side of the ball.

Iron-Man huh? Keep us updated on that experiment. Gotta be creative when running with Buffalo...

I'll probably stay with Buffalo till I can win them the MAC championship. I will def keep you updated on my iron man CB.

Game against Ball was crazy. We started off fast and scored 2 TD'S in the 1st half. Ball came out in the second half motivated a scored 14 in the 3rd. Late fourth we kicked a fg. We fumbled in their redzone but they never got any points. With about a minute left in the 4th I threw a TD pass to Rivers, my beast WR, too put it away 27-14.

MJohn Licata my true frosh QB threw 21/51 for 293 yards and 3 TD's. I tried my 4th RB this game he he did good going for 125 yards on 28 carries. My beast receiver Rivers had 7 catches for 132 yards and 2 TD's.

Start off my first year in the Mac with a bang. 2-1

Lost to UCONN 36-17. The score doesn't do my game justice really. it was 10-9, Me, going into 3rd quarter. I threw a couple picks that fucked us over in the 3rd and 4th and my defense laid down. Worst game so far for my freshman QB. 20/44, 303 yds, TD, 4 INT. Running game was irrelevant once again. rivers caught 10+ passes for over 100 yds again. Good news is my project HB is coming back next game.

I change my offense to suit my personnel.

I preferrun a power spread really... I have some i-formations and such that I use, but 85% of the time I'm lining up in the gun, usually with a FB and a TE in there somewhere. Run a lot of isos, powers, read-option, dives, etc, it's what I run in my Ohio State dynasty with Braxton Miller & co and what I ran at Baylor with RG3 in my CC dynasty.

But, in my Ohio State dynasty, Braxton is probably going to be gone after this year and my guy behind him is a pocket passer with 62 speed (But 90+ power and accuracy), so I've already decided that I'm most likely switching to Oklahoma State's playbook when this guy's time rolls around.

My boys just played one HELL of a game and beat Tennessee 22-16!!!!

QB went 20-39, 291 yds, 2 TD, 1 INT. That SEC defensive speed was too much for my run game. Only mustered up 71 yards on 22 carries with my project RB, BUT he converted 1st downs on crucial times. I spread the ball around a lot to different receivers.

Fucking ecstatic. 3-2.
