New contract for Alex Smith?

I was wrong about Alex Smith. I never in a million years thought he'd become as good as he has. He was a legitimate MVP candidate before he got benched. If he had never gotten injured during the season his statistics would've been off the charts. But because Kaepernick has a much stronger arm (compare his 13.3 YPC to Smith's 11.4) and Kaepernicks ability to run it doesn't seem like he stood too much of a chance in hindsight.

I'm not sure why. If I was a team I'd be hesitant to throw money at Alex Smith for 2 main reasons.

1. I'd like to see who he is without Harbaugh
2. Even if he is decent he isn't the guy that is going to lift your franchise to any new heights.

True, but you could argue that each team has their own weapons, and especially KC. Having even an above average QB like Smith would be huge for them. Even Alex Smith could be enough to persuade Dwayne Bowe to stick around with Andy Reid in town.

True, but I am not sure Smith is better than Cassel. Given his track record of developing Qb's I'd like to see what Reid could do with Cassel.

I'd like to say what track record, because even though Reid developed McNabb, Kolb was just average, Foles can't really be graded and Michael Vick did come back with the Eagles, but had all the talent in the world. I personally feel Reid is extremely overrated from what I've seen him do with the Eagles, but that's getting off-topic here.

I don't think he's really got the arm to be the QB for the Bills and either he or his agent should be smart enough to see the writing on the wall that Ryan Nasib is going to be pegged as the QB of the future there eventually.

My issue with Arizona is that Arians has had his most success with big guys like Ben Roethlisberger and Andrew Luck who can take a pounding on all his deep dropbacks. They also have bigger arms than Smith and that is what has allowed Arians to take as many chances deep as he has.

Not to mention I question LSH as a solution to the running game woes there and for whatever reason the Bidwell's still seem to be enamored with Kevin Kolb.

If Reid can convince Bowe to stay, bring in Smith and then take Joeckel with the #1 pick the Chiefs will be right in the thick of the AFC playoff race next season.

Interesting, when looking at the back and forth between Glen and I, we both seem to be proven correct--more or less.

Manning worth every penny and 49ers doing just fine with Smith and Kaeptain America.

I don't think Arizona would be a good fit for Smith as Arians likes to go deep and thats not Smith's strong suit. But I think any west coast team he would be a good fit for.

I agree, I think KC would be his best bet
