Ugh, 49ers doubling Giant votes in this thread. That makes me less confident. The mob has been doubting the 'Niners all year, I'd rather keep it that way.
I honestly wanted the Packers. Much as I'm glad this game's gonna be in the stick, I don't like the idea of having to play them twice. It was a tough game the first time, now they can learn from their mistakes in that game. I had more faith in beating the Packers once than the Giants twice. Going to be a very tough game, and the Smith Bros. need to come up big.
Both teams are better now than they were when they played last. Eli's gonna have to carry the Giants offense, they're not going to move the ball on the ground. That said, Eli's perfectly capable of carrying the Giants. Still, I think he's good for 2 turnovers in this game. Alex can't put the ball on the ground twice.
Alex threw 5 interceptions this season... one was tipped at the line and caught on the fly, another was off a drop... 3 of his own fault. I have plenty of faith he'll protect the ball when putting it in the air. He fumbled twice against the Saints, however, and that makes me nervous. I don't expect a ton out of the 49ers running game. A couple of explosive plays, but no consistent pounding. Alex needs to get the ball out quickly, and Crabtree and Williams MUST catch those passes. After 5 turnovers, they could afford those 4 drops and Swain's dogging a sure touchdown... they're unlikely to get THAT many turnovers again.
The most important thing they 49ers can do is be as emotional and physical as they were against the Saints. Not sure how much that game took out of them, and I'm worried the hangover of such an emotion win might well lead to a let down. That said, they've shown nothing if not mental toughness and focus all year long, so maybe they can avoid that.
