BENGALS GET CAUGHT LOOKING AHEAD IN 49-13 BLOWOUT LOSS TO THE JETS
New York's offense lights up Cincinnati defense for 519 total yards on the way to mild-upset win | Bengals unable to figure out how to stop Jets duo Sanchez and Jones | Team drops to 5-4, will travel to 9-0 New England next week

The New York Jets outscored the Cincinnati Bengals 21-0 in the fourth quarter on their way to winning 49-13 Sunday in Cincinnati. The game was never really close as the Jets took control early with a 28-3 halftime lead. New York RB Thomas Jones was a thorn in the Bengals' side, carrying the football for 174 yards, including a game-breaking 98-yard touchdown run that made the score 21-3 in the second quarter. The play came following a goal line stand in which Bengals FB Jacob Hester was stuffed on 4th and goal.

Jets QB Mark Sanchez also gave the Bengals fits, going 21 of 24 for 293 yards and 3 touchdowns. Sanchez added a 12-yard first quarter rushing touchdown early in the game and finished the game with 45 rushing yards on 5 carries.

New York's offense finished the game with a season-high 519 total yards, which also represents the most yards given up by the Bengals this season.

Cincinnati's offense had a relatively poor outing, mustering just 287 total yards while turning the ball over 3 times.

The team would get back into the game in the third quarter following a 66-yard touchdown pass from QB Carson Palmer to WR Chad Ochocinco that made the score 28-13 with 6:42 remaining in the period. However two touchdown runs by Jets RB Leon Washington in the fourth quarter put the game away.

The Bengals, coming into the game ranked #1 in the NFL in 3rd down conversions with a 47% conversion rate, finished Sunday's game a measley 2 of 14 on third down.

"This was a disappointing outing considering we were playing so well the past few weeks," said Bengals head coach Mike Martz.

"I am so disappointed in every part of today's game. Offensively we couldn't sustain a drive, defensively we couldn't get a stop, and we even had a fumble on a kickoff return by Javier Arenas in the first half. This was as sloppy as it gets and we have a lot to clean up this week."

Cincinnati (5-4) will face the New England Patriots (9-0) next week at Gillette Stadium.

Ouch. Tough game. Looks like the Jets running game was really on fire. At least Ochocinco continues to impress. Good luck against the Pats. I could definitely see them getting their first loss at the hands of Palmer and Chad.

This last game was just one that seemed to spiral out of control from the outset. Everything that could go wrong, went wrong.

I had a field goal get taken off the board due to a holding call early, we had a 4th and goal that we got stuffed on, we had a chance to tackle Jones in the endzone on the 98 yard TD but whiffed, etc. And I don't know what the problem was with the defense; It was horrible.

There is no doubt that we have to play better against the undefeated Patriots.

Bengals | Ochocinco guarantees victory
Wed, 17 Nov 2010 10:07:49 -0700
Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports that Bengals WR Chad Ochocinco told reporters that he has no doubt that his team will defeat the 9-0 New England Patriots when they meet Sunday at Gillette Stadium. "There ain't no ifs. We will win this game and that's a guarantee," said Ochocinco. "This is how I feel about what we've got going on right now and how we've turned this organization around. I got all the confidence in the world in this team and the Patriots have weaknesses that we are going to expose. Write it down, take a picture, do whatever you want. We are going to go in there and hand them an L. I won't be covered. I will do everything I can to make sure we win this game and it'll be fun."

DOUBLE-WHAMMY
Bengals lose heart-breaker to undefeated Patriots 27-24 and also lose QB Carson Palmer for the remainder of the regular season | Veteran signal-caller suffers herniated disk injury that will require surgery and sideline him for six weeks | New England PK Gostkowski's 42-yard fourth quarter field goal drops Cincinnati to 5-5

Bengals WR Chad Ochocinco was unable to make good on his promise of a Cincinnati win as his team fell 27-24 to the New England Patriots Sunday at Gillette Stadium. Patriots QB Tom Brady, who missed most of the third quarter with an ankle injury and gave way to off-season acquisition Tarvaris Jackson for three possessions, came back in the fourth quarter to lead his team to a victory. PK Stephen Gostkowski's 42-yard field goal with 7:11 remaining in the game gave New England its winning margin.

The major story coming out of the game for the Bengals was an injury sustained by starting QB Carson Palmer in the third quarter. Palmer, who finished 14 of 22 for 148 yards to go along with 1 touchdown and 2 interceptions, was injured in the third quarter when he was hit hard by Patriots DE Ty Warren on an attempted screen pass. He sustained what doctors described as a herniated disk injury which will require surgery and put him out for the next six weeks, in effect ending his regular season.

"Carson and our doctors went to the locker room and performed an x-ray immediately after it happend and they quickly made a prognosis," said Bengals head coach Mike Martz.

"Carson is going to miss the next month and a half and this is certainly a big blow to us but we have faith in back-up quarterbacks Jordan Palmer as well as J.T. O'Sullivan."

Jordan Palmer, the younger brother of Carson, finished the game and did not fare well in his first action of the 2010 season, going just 4 of 15 for 35 yards and 1 interception. He got good production from his running game however as Bengals FB Jacob Hester led the rushing attack with 150 yards, which includes a second quarter touchdown run. The production from Hester helped Cincinnati stay in the game until the very end.

The Patriots (10-0) attempted to run out the clock with under a minute to play in the fourth quarter but were stuffed by the Bengals defense on a 3rd and 4 rushing attempt by RB Willie Parker, signed during the 2010 off-season. Gostkowski missed a 53-yard field goal with 0:42 remaining in the game giving Cincinnati the football at their own 43-yard line and out of timeouts.

However, after driving down to the Patriots 49-yard line, Jordan Palmer was picked off by Patriots OLB Cameron Wake on a desperation heave towards the endzone, preserving the win for New England.

"I know I said what I said but hey, it just didn't happen for us," said Ochocinco, who on Wednesday guaranteed a Bengals' victory.

"I think we all know had my man Carson been able to finish the game, things would have been different."

The second straight loss for Cincinnati (5-5) slides them back into a tie for first place with Pittsburgh (5-5). The Bengals will host Cleveland (4-6) next week at home.

Notes: Bengals head coach Mike Martz indicated after the game that he has yet to make a determination on who will be the starting quarterback for the team's remaining six games. Martz indicated that Jordan Palmer (58 overall) and J.T. O'Sullivan (58 overall) are both likely to split reps during the practice week...Bengals rookie CB Joe Haden, making the second start of his career, scored the first touchdown of his NFL career on a 70-yard interception return for a touchdown which tied the game at 24-24 in the third quarter.

Jeez what a heartbreaker. I could feel the pain just reading it. It will be interesting if Jordan ends up filling in for his brother the remainder of the season. Looks like the move to promote Haden really paid off. Hopefully you can stay in control of the NFC North. Good luck against the Browns.

This certainly changes things. What was once looking to be a promising season is starting to take a turn for the worse.

The gameplan will definitely need to be refined. Hopefully the fullback Hester and the rest of the running backs can pick up the slack down the stretch and Ocho continues to make plays.

Tough stretch you've had here. The Jets really poured it on you. Stuckey and Jones dominated and then you lose not only the game, but, your quarterback the following week. The only consistency I see from your weekly top performers is from Chad Ochocinco. He has been putting up big numbers this year. Any hints on the quarterback situation? I know you have both Palmer and O'Sullivan, but, with Palmer sidelined for 6 weeks, have you considered signing a free-agent?

Bengals | J.Palmer named starting QB
Tue, 23 Nov 2010 10:07:49 -0700
Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports that the Cincinnati Bengals have named QB Jordan Palmer (58 overall) the starter for the team's week 12 game versus Cleveland. Palmer (58 overall) takes over for his older brother Carson Palmer (90 overall) who was injured and will miss the remainder of the 2010 regular season with a herniated disk. The younger Palmer last saw extended action during the team's 41-27 week 17 win over the Jets in 2009. Subbing for his older sibling who got hurt in the first quarter of that game, Jordan went 19 of 27 for 281 yards with 3 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. J.T. O'Sullivan (58 overall) will now serve as the team's back-up quarterback. "Jordan offers us a very similar skill set to Carson and we believe he'll be able to lead this team down the stretch," said Bengals head coach Mike Martz. "Of course we'll tailor the game plan to take advantage of his strengths while also de-emphasizing the things that he may not be as great at."

Bengals | Brink signed
Tue, 23 Nov 2010 10:07:49 -0700
Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports that the Cincinnati Bengals have signed QB Alex Brink (54 overall) to the active roster. Brink, 6-2 208 pounds, was a seventh round draft pick by the Houston Texans in 2008 from Washington State University. He is expected to fulfill the role of emergency third-string quarterback for the Bengals.

Bengals | C.Palmer officially inactivated
Tue, 23 Nov 2010 10:07:49 -0700
Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports that the Cincinnati Bengals have officially placed QB Carson Palmer (90 overall) onto the inactive list. Palmer, who suffered a herniated disk injury during the team's week 11 loss to New England, will miss the remainder of the 2010 regular season after undergoing surgery to repair the injury.

The free agent QB pool is pretty bare actually. Everyone was rated 58 or under. My best option was either Brink or Andrew Walter. I liked Brink a little better because of his 83 THA but hopefully he never sees the field.

I like the move to name Palmer the starter. I definitely think he gives you a better chance to win than O'Sullivan. Brink looks like he could have potential but like you said hopefully he never sees the field. Good luck down the stretch!

Bengals QB Jordan Palmer, starting the first game of his career, went 20 of 31 for 224 yards and 3 touchdowns subbing in for his injured older brother Carson Palmer. The younger Palmer led Cincinnati on a 12-play 74-yard opening possession which took up 6:08 and culminated with a 13-yard touchdown pass to RB C.J. Spiller on a screen play to give Cincinnati an early 7-0 lead. Palmer was 7 of 9 for 77 yards on the drive.

The Bengals also got another monster performance for the second straight week from FB Jacob Hester, who finished with 130 yards on just 14 carries, which includes a 64-yard third quarter touchdown run that put an early nail in the Browns' coffin making the score 38-17. The Bengals rushed for a season-high 258 yards as a team during the contest.

Palmer's 46-yard touchdown completion to Spiller on a smoke route gave them a 14-10 lead early in the second quarter that they would never relinquish. Cincinnati would go on to score 24 consecutive points during the quarter to blow the game wide open. Former Brown and current Cincinnati RB Jerome Harrison's 53-yard touchdown run made the score 28-10 and put an exclamation point on the period going into halftime.

In the end though, Palmer was the star of the show and was given the game ball by Bengals head coach Mike Martz.

"It was important from an offensive standpoint for us to find the right blend of balance while at the same time not getting away from what we like to do," said Martz.

"I thought Jordan handled everything well. The one mistake he had on the interception was probably not his fault because he was hit as he threw the ball resulting in a bit of a freak, rare type of play where someone caught it on the tip. He played as well as we had hoped and I couldn't be happier for the young man."

Cincinnati's defense also had a terrific performance holding Cleveland to just 183 total offensive yards and sacking Browns QB Derek Anderson 5 times. CB Leon Hall scored on a 60-yard interception return for a touchdown in the aformentioned second quarter scoring spree.

The Bengals (6-5) will now travel to Pittsburgh (6-5) for a pivotal AFC North matchup. The two teams are currently tied for first place in the division and will play each other twice over the final five games, including the last game of the regular season. Cincinnati currently holds a slight edge over Pittsburgh in terms of tie-breakers by virtue of their 2-1 divisional record compared to the Steelers' 0-2 record in division play. The Steelers will be without star SS Troy Polamalu, who will miss the game with a torn quadriceps injury.

Notes: Cleveland was without a whopping 6 starters during the game, 5 of them on offense. QB Brady Quinn (stress fracture), WR Braylon Edwards (torn bicep), C Alex Mack (partial ACL tear), RG Eric Olsen (torn pectoral), RT Ben Hamilton (fractured elbow), and OLB Kamerion Wimbley (quadricep tear) were all out for the Browns. Every player except Wimbley is on injured reserve and will not return to action this season.

Nice win over Cleveland. Always nice to see when your team dominates an inferior opponent. You can almost clinch the division with a win over the Steelers in the next game.

Looks like Hester may be earning himself another pro bowl invite. He just continues to perform when he touches the ball. Jordan filled in admirably, but, I hope there is no debate when Carson is ready to return. I'm definitely interested in seeing what your squad can do against the Steelers!

Who Dey!
