Wow. Surprised Washington got cut from the Jets seeing as he is their best return man.

They drafted USC WR Damian Williams #1 overall back in 2010 and he is their kick returner now. He has a 99 RET rating. Washington was really expendable the more I look at it.

LOL @ the Terrible Towls comments. Pumped to see how the game turns out

Man you really got me excited for the first game... good luck!

Love the twitter updates. I'm feeling a big game from Chad. I also think Spiller could find some holes. Good luck!

Thanks for the well wishes, men. Tough game though. The Steelers seem unbeatable in Madden this year.

Hope Chad's got his fork and knife ready.

Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger eludes the pressure applied by Bengals DT Domata Peko and completes a 5-yard touchdown pass to WR Santonio Holmes on a slant route to give Pittsburgh a 14-0 lead early in the second quarter.

BENGALS STEEL NOT READY
Bengals lose once again to division nemesis Pittsburgh, this time 38-17 on opening night | Steelers QB Roethlisberger tosses 4 touchdown passes to pace Pittsburgh to another blowout win over AFC North foe | Palmer, offense struggle to move the football consistently against ferocious Steelers front seven

The Pittsburgh Steelers went into Cincinnati and pounded the Bengals in blowout fashion as usual, this time in a 38-17 rout on NFL Opening Night. Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger went 21 of 28 for 285 yards and 4 touchdowns while throwing no interceptions. His defense put him in great position to be successful, forcing four turnovers during the game.

The critical juncture in the contest came towards the end of the second quarter. Down 14-3 and driving deep in Steelers territory, Bengals QB Carson Palmer hit a wide open TE Chase Coffman for a would-be touchdown, however the third year man out of Missouri dropped the touchdown pass which would have put the Bengals right back into the game. Two plays later, Palmer threw an interception to Steelers CB Keenan Lewis which was returned 96 yards for a touchdown to blow the game wide open at 21-3 with 2:38 to go in the half. Palmer finished just 17 of 33 for 281 yards with 2 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. He struggled throughout the game trying to find holes in the Steelers defense.

After halftime, down 28-3 the Bengals struck quickly with a 77-yard touchdown pass from Palmer to RB Jerome Harrison, subbing in for an injured C.J. Spiller who left in the first quarter with a back injury. The touchdown made the score 28-10 and gave Cincinnati early second half momentum. However after forcing a punt on the Steelers ensuing possession, the Bengals would make another mistake.

Pinned deep in his own territory, Palmer dropped back to pass on first down and got extreme pressure from Steelers OLB James Harrison which led to a bad pass that was intercepted by SS Troy Polamalu within the Bengals' 10-yard line. Two plays later, Roethlisberger found WR Santonio Holmes for a 6-yard touchdown to all but put the game away at 35-10. It was the duo's second touchdown connection of the night.

"We came into this game with the plan in mind to not beat ourselves and we ended up doing just that," said Bengals head coach Mike Martz.

"I don't know what it is but the Steelers just seem to have our number. The interception in the redzone just before half was a 14-point swing and you can't afford that against a great team like this. We have a lot of things to clean up after this game."

Cincinnati (0-1) will travel to face San Francisco (0-1) next week. The 49ers fell 13-10 to the Seahawks at home in week 1. New 49ers QB Nate Davis (74 overall) struggled in his first game as the team's top signal-caller, going just 16 of 29 for 137 yards with no touchdowns and 1 interception while posting a 53.4 passer rating.

The game marks Martz's return to San Francisco, where he served as offensive coordinator in 2008 before being ousted after just one season following the promotion by Mike Singletary to permanent head coach. New Bengals OLB Manny Lawson, who played for the 49ers from 2006-2010, makes his return to the Bay Area as well.

Note: Bengals RB C.J. Spiller sustained what the team is describing as a lower back strain in the first quarter and was unable to return. Martz indicated that the injury is not serious however and he will be ready to start next week against the 49ers.

Tough tough loss man. Steelers are relentless. You have to play near flawless against them. The Coffman drop was painful. It was nice to see Floyd contribute a little. Hopefully you can bounce back against the 49ers. You should be able to force some turnovers with Nate Davis under center. Good luck!

Ouch! All the offseason, pointing towards opening day and the Steelers, then the Bengals go out and lay another egg. Damn! Those Steelers definitely have your number!

Good luck getting the train back on track next week in San Francisco.

I think we should beat S.F.

You're right though, Pittsburgh is just tough to beat. I think the day we can finally beat them will be a big turning point for this franchise.

Tough loss to the Steelers. The young guys have to step up on this team. Can't have dropped passes, it's only going to frustrate Palmer and lead to turnovers.

Coffman has one of the best CTH ratings on the team so I was shocked that he dropped that one. It was one of those CPU blitzes and Coffman was lined up in the slot running a streak. If he catches it, he walks into the endzone untouched from about 5-yards out. Major turning point and swing in momentum right there.

"Steel" not ready? :uglyhammer: Good stuff man. Reading your chises always fires me up to play mine. I think I will finish my Raiders game I've had saved for a while tonight.

Thanks man....Glad you liked the headline and are enjoying the chise.

I've always been interested in seeing you do a report. You oughta fire one up some day.

Lets hope so man. We are in trouble if Davis lights us up. As we both know though, stopping Frank Gore will be the key to a win. I'm thinking about re-installing my "Multiple D" package. I'm starting to think that a straight 3-4 (Patriots playbook) is no good against the run in this game.

I normally wouldn't make a move like that during the season, but it really isn't an unrealistic scenario for a team to install a new look on defense, especially when it is something they did a season ago.

damn tough loss. good luck against san fran

Thanks man...Glad to see you are enjoying your chise as well.

Tough loss man.. 3 picks for Palmer ouch.. good luck against the 49ers!

Tough way to open the season. Hope Palmer gets on track.

We gotta get that cleaned up for sure. The INTs hurt against a team like Pittsburgh that will take advantage of them each and every time.

49ers PK Joe Nedney nails a chip-shot 21-yard field goal in overtime to give San Francisco a 36-33 victory over Cincinnati.

CINCINNATI BACK-UP QB SHAUN HILL LEADS 21-POINT FOURTH QUARTER COMEBACK BUT BENGALS FALL TO SAN FRANCISCO 36-33 IN OVERTIME
49ers QB Nate Davis leads team to game-winning field goal drive on first possession of overtime | Subbing for an injured Carson Palmer, former Niner QB Hill goes 26 of 38 for 375 yards and four touchdowns in losing effort | Early blocked field goal, missed scoring opportunity just before halftime costs Cincinnati valuable points | Palmer to miss next week's game at Houston

The Cincinnati Bengals made a remarkable comeback but in the end fell to the San Francisco 49ers 36-33 in overtime Sunday at Candlestick Park. 49ers QB Nate Davis, in his second game as the team's new starting quarterback, completed 21 of his 25 passes for 348 yards and two touchdowns. The third year player out of Ball State led a 14-play drive on the opening series of the overtime session which ended with the game-winning 21-yard field goal by PK Joe Nedney. San Francisco nearly blew a game in which they led 33-12 in the fourth quarter.

Former 49er and current Bengal QB Shaun Hill, subbing for QB Carson Palmer who left in the second quarter with an arm injury, nearly pulled off the miracle comeback against his former team. Hill had a career-day going 26 of 38 for 375 yards along with 4 touchdowns but he had two costly interceptions during the game.

Early in the second half trailing just 10-5, Hill's first interception cost Cincinnati seven points as 49ers rookie 1st round pick, S Reshad Jones, returned the pick 43-yards for a touchdown to extend San Francisco's lead to 18-5 in the third quarter following a two-point conversion pass.

The second of those interceptions came following a Bengals fumble recovery midway through the 4th quarter that set up Cincinnati at the San Francisco 15-yard line down 33-26. Two plays into that possession, Hill threw his second pick of the game, this one to 49ers OLB Xavier Adibi, thwarting a huge scoring opportunity for Cincinnati. Hill would make up for his mistakes however.

The former undrafted free agent out of Maryland tossed 3 fourth quarter touchdown passes, including two to TE Chase Coffman. His 5-yard touchdown on a middle screen pass to RB C.J. Spiller tied the game up at 33-33 with just 0:26 remaining in the contest. Spiller was by far and away Hill's favorite target as the second year speedster caught a career-high 14 receptions for 219 yards and two touchdowns. In the end however, it would not be enough.

"You take a look back at the game and two things jump out at you," said Bengals head coach Mike Martz.

"On our first possession of the game, we put together a fantastic drive but it yields no points because we let a man get free and block a 44-yard field goal.

"There was also the sequence just before halftime where Hill throws a pass inbounds to Spiller in the middle seam when we are out of timeouts with less than 15 seconds remaining. The clock runs out on us and it costs us a shot at a short field goal. Between those two plays that's six points right there and in the NFL, every point matters & it cost us dearly today."

Cincinnati (0-2) will travel for the second straight game, this time for a date with the Houston Texans next Sunday at Reliant Stadium. The Texans are coming off a 20-7 victory over Atlanta. They are 1-1 under new head coach Ken Whisenhunt.

Damn very tough start to the season, kinda dashed the high expectations the team had coming in.....I noticed you couldn't run the ball much against the Niners....Bengals will get it together though, too much talent on this team and 0-2 is not the end of the world.....kinda early to use the term "must win game," but the team could use a win against the Texans.....how serious was the injury to Palmer?

"If I break it, you might as well believe it."

OCHOCINCO TO TRY BREAKING NEWS

CINCINNATI -- Chad Ochocinco is used to making news. Now, he's trying to break some.

The Cincinnati Bengals receiver is planning to form his own social news network on Twitter, using his player contacts around the league to develop news about other teams. The idea grew out of his partnership with Motorola, which will provide the technology.

He's dubbed the venture OCNN, for the Ochocinco News Network. He will try to compete with mainstream media to tell fans what's going on with NFL teams.

He's even got a slogan.

"If I break it, you might as well believe it," Ochocinco told The Associated Press in a phone interview.

Ochocinco already spends a lot of time on social networking -- he has nearly 300,000 followers on Twitter and does frequent Ustream episodes. This latest venture will be intriguing, given the way NFL coaches try to prevent news from leaking out.

The receiver plans to operate like a reporter, getting tips from players on other teams. He also might get other NFL players involved in his reports.

"I am that source now," he said. "I'll be the leak for all 32 teams."

Ochocinco has already had one occasion to break news about another player. When first-round draft pick Andre Smith was close to ending his holdout during training camp in 2009, Ochocinco tweeted that he had signed. Smith's agent then tweeted that the report was premature. When Smith was in the locker room the next day after reaching a deal, Ochocinco took a photo and posted proof.

That got the receiver thinking about doing more news-based tweets.

"I'm sort of still feeling this out," he said. "It's based on what I already do. I'll bring in news the way I always do, and I'll actually be adding to it."

Ochocinco used the example of a network reporter who relays what they hear from sources with various teams.

"I'm knocking out the middle man," he said.

With a chuckle, he added, "Are you nervous?"

The receiver began promoting it on his Twitter feed following a practice on Wednesday to get ready for a game against the Houston Texans.

Motorola is using the venture to promote its MOTOBLUR technology. Ochocinco will use one of the company's Cliq mobile devices for his new social network. Motorola marketing officer Bill Ogle said Ochocinco "brings order and clarity to a multifaceted lifestyle as a professional athlete, entertainer and devoted social networker."

It's been a busy week for Ochocinco's social networking ventures. A week ago, his new iPhone app was introduced. The app was developed by a company that includes former Bengals QB Jordan Palmer and features various ways to get news on the receiver.

Between football and networking, the receiver doesn't have much extra time.

"This is how I stay out of trouble," he said. "I don't go to clubs, I don't drink, I don't party."

The venture will have to stay within the NFL's restrictions on social networking by players and coaches. In August of 2009, the league sent out guidelines, allowing them to use Twitter, Facebook and other social media up to 90 minutes before kickoff, and again after games when traditional interview sessions are finished.

Some NFL teams have taken a hard line on tweeting. The Dolphins imposed restrictions on players, reporters and fans during training camp. Other teams have restrictions on tweeting from practice fields. The Chargers fined cornerback Antonio Cromartie $2,500 in 2009 for criticizing the food selections at training camp on his Twitter feed.

NFL head coaches routinely tell players not to talk about their injuries to the media because it could put them at a competitive disadvantage.

Tough tough loss man. Overtime...just a heartbreaker. Spiller really played his heart out to pull it together and Shaun Hill almost pulled it off. It looks like you should be okay against the Texans as long as you don't force Hill to win the game. Running game needs to get on track against the Texans and I think it will. I'm thinking Hester might get it going. He has been clutch in the past. I'm feeling the first win of the season. Luckily the injury to Palmer is nothing devastating so I would say those high expectations are certainly still there. Good luck getting that first win. Go Bengals!

Tough way to start the season DGZ. I was shocked to see the blowout loss against the Steelers and then you lose in OT to the 49ers after coming from behind. Tough way to start the season as a whole.

Palmer continues to be your version of "Fragile" Fred Taylor - always has something bothering him or hindering him from being 100%. Hopefully, Spiller can carry the offense against Houston and you can get that first W of the season.

BENGALS DOMINATE TEXANS IN 48-21 THUMPING
Two 3rd quarter pick-sixes put game out of reach | QB Hill has stellar day in relief of Palmer, throws for 302 yards and two touchdowns to lead Bengals to first win of 2011 | Team set to host Jacksonville next week; Palmer scheduled to return to lineup

The Cincinnati Bengals defeated the Houston Texans 48-21 Sunday at Reliant Stadium. QB Shaun Hill, playing place of an injured Carson Palmer, completed 17 of his 26 passes for 302 yards and two touchdowns. He was also aided by a productive running game, led by RB C.J. Spiller's 14-carry 75-yard performance that includes a 38-yard touchdown run.

Two interceptions returned for touchdowns in the third quarter blew the game wide open for the Bengals. MLB Rey Mauauluga returned a Matt Schaub interception 31 yards for a touchdown on the first play of the quarter to make the score 24-14. Late in the period, CB Leon Hall returned a pick 82 yards for a touchdown to make the score 31-14. The Bengals finished with four interceptions on the day.

"The way we started the third quarter really provided us tremendous momentum," said Bengals head coach Mike Martz.

"We took advantage of the turnovers with direct scores. Despite the yardage we gave up, I thought we really did a good job defensively as far as getting our hands on the football."

Texans QB Matt Schaub put up huge numbers though much of those were inflated due to playing catch-up most of the fourth quarter versus the Bengals' prevent defense. Schaub finished 31 of 43 for a career-high 478 yards with 3 touchdowns and the previously mentioned 4 interceptions.

The Bengals (1-2) will host Jacksonville (1-2) next week at Paul Brown Stadium.

Nice win man, this is stillthe nutz man, i might not post much but this keeps me going at work man.

Thanks for all the time and effort you put into this.

I hate the sinking feeling you get when you are in overtime and the opposition makes there way into field goal territory.

Palmer injured again? Trade him away..............Now Hill is in you may start winning though. lol

i agree, palmer needs to get his act together and toughen up.

Palmer's act is definitely getting old. Getting rid of him is not an option though...too cost prohibitive. It is nice to see that I have a good back-up option now though rather than the vaunted duo of Jordan Palmer and J.T. O'Sullivan.

Palmer will be back for the next game against Jacksonville. I hired a new training staff in the off-season that specializes in QB Toughness so hopefully the long-term injuries to Palmer are a thing of the past.

Go Bengals!

We need to get Hester involved. He's been like that the last couple of years: Slow start and then boom, 100-yard game. His production comes in spurts. He's a very streaky player it seems.

Spiller is the man. He feels like my own version of Marshall Faulk when playing. He's deadly in the slot and out wide and he is starting to find the running lanes. He's getting better with every game as a runner it seems.

How do you get those stats to line up so nicely...mine end up all over no matter how straight I get them in the initial edit.....do you use a template? Where can I get one?

He uses notepad. I could send you some of my templates as attachements to an email if you want to pm me your email address.

Thanks...I will.....I just have to figure out how to PM you....I know I can do it...just give me a couple of days

Yep, goDawgs is right. Use notepad, wrap code tags around it, and you're all set.

"Thanks man....Glad you liked the headline and are enjoying the chise.

I've always been interested in seeing you do a report. You oughta fire one up some day."

Actually, I do game reports that my brother and I send back and forth to each other in a word document, but it definitely has a style that has been borrowed from many of the awesome chises that are on here and were on the former MM. Pics/stats/newspaper type layout. That's how we keep each other informed on how our progress is going in whatever game we are playing. I doubt anyone would want to read it though, b/c my bro and I create our own teams of family, friends, etc. and no one could relate. We do it for like 5 different sports titles. So, to keep me based in "reality" I enjoy your fine work.

I think I remember you telling me that over on MM once. That sounds pretty neat. Its gotten to the point for me where I can't play a sports video game unless I was documenting it and had some sort of audience following it along with me.

Wow great game from Hill backing up Palmer, nice win!

Thanks man...Hill definitely showed me something. Very minimal drop off from him to Palmer. His short and mid accuracy ratings are very high and that is a major part of our offense.

Nice win man, this is stillthe nutz man, i might not post much but this keeps me going at work man.

Thanks for all the time and effort you put into this.

Thank you for following man. Glad I could be of service.

Way to get one in the win column! Hill really came through for you.

Thanks. It felt good to notch that first W. Hopefully we can string together a few wins here.

Great win man. Hill really played lights out. Spiller was great as well. He had a ton of all purpose yards. The defense looked great against the run, a little flaky against the pass but I guess when you force four interceptions you can't complain too much about the yardage allowed in garbage time. Overall a great game. It was nice to see Mays leading the stat line for tackles. Good luck against the Jags!
