NFL: The Show | GM D.Geezy's Cincinnati Bengals Franchise

DGZ,

Just catching up. I was really busy for awhile there and finally checked in to see some nice progress in Cincy. Four straight wins and now atop the AFC North with Pittsburgh (granted Pitt owns the tie-breaker).

As I said a few weeks back, Spiller is the key component to your offense. The guy is putting up all-purpose yards every week and may be the most important player to your offensive success.

It was nice to see some of the defensive performances against Cleveland and Tennessee. You look like you are really getting a head of steam with that defense and maybe make a run for the AFC title this year.

Looking forward to more!

Been a bit since I last posted..you guys are really on a nice run. Spiller is really turning into a solid halfback both in the running game and passing game..I always liked having a back that can do both. How is he is pass blocking when you keep him back? If he is good then you possibly found yourself a stud! Glad to hear Chad will be ok, always scary when you lose one of your best football players..thankfully he will be back for you when you face a very difficult Indy ballclub..good luck man!

just read the entire thread tonight and im loving it....my one question tho is how did you get the pictures did you take them or does madden have a thing like NCAA where u can upload pics

Easy...I snap pictures with a digital camera after the game and upload them to photobucket.

The CJ Spiller fan club is officially started!

The kid is a beast for sure. He is turning into my favorite player on the team. Marshall Faulk clone.

^ lol it's Bernard Scott!
Don't mind that, this is great every season, your team is getting much better and has progressed very far. I see you making the playoffs these next 2 seasons

I think the time is now for the playoffs. We're in position to make a run this season IMO.

what a win! the defense stepped up huge and spiller was lights out. It looks like you did a pretty good job keeping tennessee's offense off the field. The defense didn't even give up a touchdown...beast. They are really going to be put to the test next game when Peyton and his colts come to town. Hopefully the offense can still put up big numbers with Sanders out. I'm really hoping Pittsburgh will drop one here so you can take the division lead. Good luck in your next game!

The defense has been a pleasant surprise these past handful of games. I think I have finally gotten into a rhythm play-calling wise and have figured out when to dial up the blitz. I no longer dread playing defense.

AHHH HELL NAW! Don't just tell me you beat my Titans, lol.

Nice win, keep it up.

Thanks man...Your Titans are doing well this year. They're 6-1; I have a feeling that we haven't seen the last of them.

Hey man...Great to see you checking in as always.

The weapons are in place on both sides of the ball for us to make the playoffs this year. Spiller is getting better by the week. I see a Pro Bowl in the near future for him with some Offensive Player of the Year considerations.

If the D keeps playing the way they have been though, skies the limit!

Bengals 4 in a row!!! I like how realistic Spiller is playing. THat is pretty much what he does every college game.

Spiller is a beast in real life. Definitely one of my favorites. He is going to be a heck of an NFL player some day.

Thanks for checking in Proof.

He has been "okay" as a pass blocker. He could be better though. Typically whenever I go max protection, I put in my fullback Jacob Hester.

Spiller is more valuable in the slot or on screen passes rather than as a pass blocker so I rarely use him in that capacity.

With under a minute remaining in the game, Colts CB Kelvin Hayden comes in on a corner blitz, hitting Bengals QB Carson Palmer as he throws. The ball floated into the hands of LB Justin Durant to seal the victory for Indianapolis and put an end to Cincinnati's game-winning drive attempt.

PALMER'S FOUR PICKS DOOM CINCINNATI IN 29-23 LOSS TO INDIANAPOLIS
Wild sequence in game's final 2:36 ends with Colts on top | Palmer's interception with under a minute to play halts Cincinnati's attempt at a game-winning drive | Team will travel to Pittsburgh next week one game out of first place

The Cincinnati Bengals fell to the Indianapolis Colts 29-23 Sunday afternoon at Paul Brown Stadium, snapping their four game winning streak. In a game that saw 18 points scored in the game's final 2 minutes and 36 seconds, Cincinnati had an opportunity to win the game with a late drive. However, with 0:44 remaining, Bengals QB Carson Palmer dropped back to pass and was hit by Colts CB Kelvin Hayden as he threw resulting in an errant pass which fell into the hands of Colts LB Justin Durant to put the game away. Palmer finished just 21 of 34 for 290 yards with 2 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. Still though, the Bengals squandered opportunities to walk away with a comeback victory.

With 2:36 to go in the game, Bengals PK Shayne Graham hit a 49-yard field goal to make the score 21-16. However on the ensuing kickoff, Colts rookie first round pick CB Ryan Hill would make the biggest play of his young career. The former Miami Hurricane returned the kick 103 yards for a touchdown to put Indianapolis ahead 29-16 with 2:21 remaining following a 2-point conversion pass from QB Peyton Manning to WR Reggie Wayne.

The Bengals did not give up. Just three plays into their next drive, Palmer hit WR Chad Ochocinco across the middle and the 11th year pro took it 63 yards for a touchdown to make the score 29-23 with 1:50 remaining in the game.

Cincinnati would elect to kick it deep rather than try an onsides kick and were able to force a three and out. The team got the ball back with 1:29 to go in the game however Durant's interception would end the Bengals hopes of a win.

"Their pass rush was phenomenal and we had a hard time containing them all game long," said Bengals head coach Mike Martz.

"They showed a lot more blitz looks than we expected and DE Dwight Freeney was as good as advertised. The inability to slow down their pass rush led to several mistakes."

A crucial sequence just before halftime also proved costly for the Bengals. At the Colts' 2-yard line down 21-3 with 0:06 remaining in the half and with one time out remaining, the Bengals squandered a scoring opportunity. On the play, Palmer threw a quick out to Ochocinco that was caught right at the goal line. However as soon as it was caught, Ochocinco was pushed backwards and the officials ruled him down at the 1-inch line and time expired on the half before the Bengals could use their remaining timeout. The play not only hurt the Bengals on the scoreboard, but also hurt any chance of gaining momentum going into the break.

"In hindsight, we probably should have run the ball there or just went ahead with the field goal," said Martz.

"Hindsight is 20/20 though and 9 times out of 10, I think that gets ruled a touchdown. It's a shame it didn't get reviewed."

Cincinnati had no problems slowing down Manning. The Colts' prolific passer finished just 16 of 33 for 169 yards with 1 touchdown and 1 interception. The Bengals' typically stout run defense (ranked 2nd in the NFL going into Sunday) had trouble stopping Colts RB Donald Brown however. The third year pro out of Connecticut finished with a game-high 134 yards and 2 touchdowns on 22 carries. His 62-yard scoring burst in the second quarter gave Indianapolis a 7-3 lead, a lead that would not be relinquished.

"If you had told me that we would hold Peyton to 169 yards and a 61.3 passer rating I would have believed we would have won this game going away," said Bengals defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel.

"We had some big gap integrity issues in terms of stopping the run and Brown really tore us up with his cutback abilities. There is a lot to clean up going into our next game."

Bengals second year RB C.J. Spiller continued the impressive start to his sophomore campaign, picking up 286 all-purpose yards during the game. Spiller had the finest rushing performance of his career thus far, carrying the football 22 times for a career-high 122 yards. He also had 7 receptions for 103 yards and a touchdown as well as 61 yards on 5 punt returns. In the end though, it was not enough.

The Bengals (4-3) will travel to Pittsburgh (5-2) next week. The Steelers defeated the Bengals 38-17 on NFL Kickoff Weekend.

Ugh tough way to lose....that's one thing I wish didn't happen so frequently in Madden 10, less of those ducks when the QB gets hit......more sacks would pile up if that didn't happen so much....but I guess the 4 picks hurt more than anything, Palmer was off his game.....the defense did a nice job on Peyton

Tough loss man. The run defense and Palmer's off day were the difference there. Huge game though with pitttsburgh. I think this Bengals team has come a long way since that opening day blowout.

Agreed man...The lame duck passes are getting old. I'd rather just see the QB go into the sack animation or maybe a fumble animation. You hardly ever see the hit + lame duck pass + d-line INT scenario on Sundays.

Tough loss man, Palmer had a bit of an off day, but Spiller had another big game it looks like.

I am having so much fun using Spiller. He is the main reason I look forward to the games right now. He is certainly becoming the face of my Madden '10 franchise. We all have those players in our dynasties and franchises.

I think I'm going to try and read up on this

Thanks man...Great to see you on board.

Man, Spiller really is getting better every week - 286 total yards and a TD. That run game with Donald Brown really killed you, though.

No question we need to clean that up. We had been stout against the run all year and that guy just tore us apart.

I hope you're right man. We'll find out tonight. I have a game plan in mind for tonight that I think will work. The key is to eliminate mistakes. We need to play flawless.

Ouch...rough day for Palmer. I think I am detecting a whiff of MVP talk for Mr. Spiller

He is one of the top Pro Bowl vote getters and an Offensive Player of the Year candidate so far. If we can get him into the end zone more, the MVP award is not out of the question.

Next week is big. You guys have to start beating the elite of the AFC. Pittsburgh has been a thorn in your side since the start of the 'chise. Spiller continues to impress. The kid is really starting to show promise with his consistency. I have to think Spiller is the team MVP, if not in the race for league MVP.

Palmer had a rough outing and it could only get tougher with the Steeler defense waiting...May be a good day to showcase Spiller and utilize a lot of quick slants to avoid the rush and limit the interception opportunities for the Steeler secondary.

Cincinnati PK Shayne Graham kicks 40-yard field goal in overtime lifting Bengals to a 30-27 upset victory over arch-nemisis Pittsburgh | Steelers turnover on first play of overtime session sets up Bengals' game-winner | Palmer and Spiller's late game heroics send contest into extra session | Game nearly blown with penalty on final play of regulation

The Cincinnati Bengals picked up their first win over the Pittsburgh Steelers since 2006, defeating their arch rivals 30-27 Sunday on the road in overtime. In the extra period, Pittsburgh RB Rashard Mendenhall was stripped of the football by Bengals DE Michael Johnson and it was recovered by OLB Manny Lawson deep in Steelers territory and well in field goal range. Cincinnati head coach Mike Martz wasted no time sending out his field goal unit and PK Shayne Graham delivered with a 40-yard field goal to win the game.

Cincinnati was able to send the game into overtime by going on a 13-play 75-yard drive that took up 4:57 late in the fourth quarter. The possession culminated with a 17-yard scoring strike from QB Carson Palmer to RB C.J. Spiller which made the score 27-27 with 1:54 remaining in the game. Palmer had his finest performance of the season, going 25 of 34 for 325 yards with 3 touchdowns and for the first time this season, no interceptions. Spiller continued to display his versatility, gaining 210 all-purpose yards (90 yards rushing, 102 yards receiving, and an 18-yard fourth quarter punt return) along with 2 touchdowns.

The tone was set early in the game by the Bengals. After forcing a Pittsburgh punt on the first possession of the game, Cincinnati took their ensuing possession on a 12-play 81-yard drive that lasted over 7 minutes and ended with a Palmer to Spiller touchdown hook-up on a middle-screen pass. The drive featured a heavy-dose of runs, 10 carries for 57 yards, including 6 rushes for 36 yards by Spiller.

"We thought it was important to come out early and establish an attitude," said Martz.

"To beat a team like that, you have to play a physical brand of football. Obviously you all know that I am a pass-first kind of guy but today we all felt it was important to establish that we weren't going to be punching bags today and that we would fight back."

The Bengals overcame much adversity during the contest. The team was penalized 9 times for 85 yards, both season-highs. Their infractions included a holding call on a 49-yard field goal made by Graham on the final play of regulation that would have won the game.

"The coaches won't say it but I am going to say it...We weren't just playing against the Steelers out there," said Bengals WR Chad Ochocinco, who finished with 5 receptions for 52 yards.

"It felt like we were also playing against the officials. You mean to tell me that Pittsburgh did absolutely nothing wrong for 60+ minutes of football and did not do a single thing penalty-worthy while we were bad enough to be penalized almost 10 times? Child please."

"Fine me if you want, but it's bogus. It was us against the world out there today. They tried to give the Steelers the game but we went out and took it. This is a changing of the guard."

The win for Cincinnati (5-3) puts them in a first place tie with the Steelers (5-3). The Bengals' record through 8 games this year matches their record from last season at this point, a year they finished 6-10. Martz knows that his team must avoid a similar collapse.

"I really felt like we became a team today and if we keep playing like this, we're going to have much to celebrate come playoff time," said Martz.

"The key though is for us to stay focused and to continue to get better one week at a time. We need to keep playing good, opportunistic defense, as wekk as sound, turnover-free offense, while also cleaning up the penalties. We do those things, we can take this thing pretty far."

Cincinnati will face Buffalo next week at home. The Bills are 5-3 under the leadership of new QB Kevin Kolb, who signed with them during the past free agent signing period following their 3-13 season in 2010.

Quick reply before I get into the game update: What's up with my Niners? Losing BOTH Davis and Cradtree..and being last in the West!?! OUCH!

YES!!! What a huge win...it's a good thing you were able to pull that off in overtime after the refs blew that call at the end of regulation. The run defense was spectacular and Spiller should be getting some major MVP hype..that guy can do it all. It looks like there is no reprieve in your schedule though as you head into the next game with the Bills. It looks like they could be pretty decent. Your offense looks pretty dominating and it looks like the defense is taking some positive strides in the right direction. Best of luck against the Bills!

That is a huge win for your football team man! Gives you the edge in the division and shows that your team is indeed for real. What am awesome drive to force the overtime..it must have given the defense the needed momentum with that first play take away! Both quarterbacks had extremely solid ballgames, but you were able to dismantle their rushing attack..this game could be huge come playoff time (Though I don't want to get ahead of myself!)

Big win, and another tough game this week..I like Kevin Kolb, looks like Buffalo probably likes him as well.

Its Deegezy he has put a curse on them. :)

Serves 'em right for the lucky win they got on me in week 2.

Spiller is now officially on the MVP ballot. I think he is ranked 4th. I'm trying to work him into 1-2 punt returns a game too so hopefully he excels there.

I'm really liking the make-up of this team. I think we have a shot at doing big things this year.

Nice division win. Great games from Palmer and Spiller

Appreciate it...thanks for checking in!

Pittsburgh had been a thorn in my side. They had blown us out every other time we've played including a couple of 50-burgers. It is great to get that monkey off our backs and it could be symbolic of something much bigger in store. We took a big step with that win.

Buffalo will be a challenge. We have to avoid the proverbial "letdown" game after our big win.

Ducking in to see the best 'chise on this or any board. Very nice. A couple of OT games. A 10-6 game which must've been pure bliss (I need to go back and read the report to see if that was the case). Lots of close games and different types of scores. You're starting to win, but we don't see the 16-0 regular season going on. Another fine DGZ production in high gear. Kinda weird not seeing it on the college level, but the Madden boards are better for it.

A 13-play drive in the 4th quarter!?!?! There's one word for that: C-L-U-T-C-H CLUTCH. That was huge! Palmer played a hell of a game and, I say it every week, Spiller continues to impress and be a offensive threat no matter the opponent. Looking forward to the next update!
