Officer delayed Moats as relative died

Even someone who has never been a police officer or through police training should know how to handle this incident. To me this falls into that area of common sense. We have policies that limit discression and tell officers what they should do, we have a lot of training, but I don' know how you train for these circumstances, other than hire people who have common sense and good people skills. - Police Chief David Kunkle

Also NFL network said the officer is on leave pending an investigation...PAID...sounds like somebody got some vacation just in time for spring break!

lol people seriously, moats didnt shoot down someone on his way to the hospital. it was a traffic ticket! you know how many people the cops let go everyday for violating traffic laws, for speeding, for whatever.. "we must uphold the law!" please.

yeah he got an attitude. his mom was dying, sorry if youre mr. cool calm and collected and you can keep your composure at all times but if my mom was dying id be the same way. id tell the cop to just take my car or leave fifty tickets on it, i dont care, let me go inside.

Ya man I agree with the police chief....This falls in line with the common sense part of your job. And I know cops hear it all as far as excuses, but in a hospital parking lot with numerous people saying some is DYING....c'mon mr officer... He coulda handled it very differently

Today the police chief said the officer in question was sent home on paid leave, not stuck on dispatch like some reports suggest.

I guess every officer should just allow any moving violations if the person claims a relative is dying. The officer was just doing his job and because Moats didn't have his insurance, he got detained longer than expected.

I feel sorry for the loss, but in reality, the officer was just following protocol.

Or you are doing your job and don't want to get written up for favoritism of a celebrity. Sorry, but this whole situation could have been avoided by either

A. Moats not breaking the law.
B. Moats having his insurance on him.

The whole delay was because of the insurance.

I think I woulda been a little more open and understanding, especially when a car pulls into a hospital ER lot. I probably woulda asked the driver to stay for a minute, and sent the rest of the family inside and woulda made a quicker process out of this whole mess. I mean, he coulda just wrote the ticket, let him go up escorted by a security guard to confirm the situation. I don't think it woulda been a big deal, hell the guards came down and confirmed the story.

Just to correct everyone. From the stories I read a nurse didn't come out. Another officer came to te car and said he had talked to a nurse.

The video shows a nurse walking up to the cop, and the other cop saying "that's a nurse".

The officer clearly deserves whatever he gets. He claims they didn't tell him what was going on (which they did), but even after that when the other officer says the mom is dying he goes:

"I'm almost done".
