That end was tough to swallow, but we played better than I thought we would have. Really kept the pressure on them the whole game, which was a lot different than Ghana. I hope the clubbing Germany gives us isn't the last match for the US team.

Even though England was eliminated, they looked better than I thought they would. I couldn't take their back line seriously. It seems like they are seriously deficient in certain areas, such as goalie and forward. I remember one World Cup where they had David James in goal and Peter Crouch at forward. Ick.

What was that, 2006 I think. I don't know what their problem is. I think Roy got a lot of things wrong this tournament tho. I guess you can start there. The young players should benefit from this. A lot of youngsters should play their final game.

Starting at the back. I would never have played Leighton Baines or Phil Jaielka. I would have played Luke Shaw at FB and Smalling at CB.
Then for this England team, I would have played a midfield 3. Henderson and Gerrard worked so well this season because there was a third guy with them. In this WC, they were overrun in the middle easily vs the Italians. And overrun again, although not as bad vs Uruguay. Plus, they really needed a center kid player player who wasn't scared to play a forward pass with some sort of tempo. Everything was so slow.
And up top. I would have played Sterling and Sturridge on both sides of Rooney taking Welbeck off. Both Liverpool players play there for their club, and could have came into the tourney and not really missed a beat. Rooney is at his best centrally, which makes him playing out left and Sterling centrally vs Italy mind baffling.

Well, Roy is going to send this line up out tonight. 9 changes from Uruguay.
Personally, my only changes to the squad would have been Welbeck out and Lallana/Barkley in. Welbeck is a worker, but that's not enough. The team always looked better when he went off (tired legs may have had something to do with this), but at least Lallana or Barkley were willing to take someone on.
I don't blame him for Baines/Cahill/Jagielka, it's the best he's got. You're a United fan, what confidence did Smalling give you all year? Shaw would have been nice, but he's only got one cap. At least now we know for sure that Baines isn't a top level LB. He can whip in a nice cross and that's about it.

Kind of a letdown of a game with Italy and Uruguay. Its always funny to me in soccer when one team will kill time the entire game in hopes of a 0-0 draw, but then they allow a late goal and have no time to comeback. Italy looked ancient this World Cup. Sad that Pirlo is still their only chance of scoring a goal. Italy scored two whole goals this World Cup. Maybe Suarez will be suspended for his biting.
