I imagine the regular XBL subscription will be cheaper than the $15/month. Basically the cheaper model and subscription is for the people who can't afford to drop the $500 on the console (those people probably shouldn't be buying it anyways). So it's cheaper at launch, but will likely end up costing you at least a little more at the end of the two years. The more expensive one is just the regular thing, just like they have now. You buy it and you buy XBL just like you do now. No contract or anything.

I'm just picturing people buying the cheaper version as gifts and sticking the birthday boy with the additional cost =-/

Internal Microsoft Memo Reportedly Debunks Always-Online Xbox

An email reportedly sent to Microsoft employees seems to debunk rumors that the next Xbox will require a constant internet connection.

The alleged email, obtained by Ars Technica, is said to have been sent to “all full-time employees working on the next Xbox” and contains the following text:

“Durango is designed to deliver the future of entertainment while engineered to be tolerant of today's Internet. There are a number of scenarios that our users expect to work without an Internet connection, and those should 'just work' regardless of their current connection status. Those include, but are not limited to: playing a Blu-ray disc, watching live TV, and yes playing a single player game.”

As Ars points out, in addition to debunking rumors of a constant internet connection, the email also seems to lend more evidence to rumors that the next Xbox will function as a cable box and allow playback of live TV. The email also seems to confirm that Microsoft’s new console will include a Blu-Ray drive.

Previously, rumors suggested that if the system’s internet connection is interrupted “the game/app is suspended and the network troubleshooter started." A more recent report suggested the feature “isn’t as Draconian as many seem to believe.”

For now, all of this should be regarded as a rumor, but we’ve reached out to Microsoft for comment. We’ll find out all of the official details about the next Xbox when it’s officially revealed on May 21st. Until then, you can stay up to date with our round-up of all the latest rumors.

The rumor that I thinks makes the most sense is that MS leaked the info about the always online to test the waters and when they saw the overwhelming hate for it they went back and removed it from the console, which is why the reveal has been delayed several times.

Sources related to development of the new Xbox have confirmed to IBTimes UK that the console, which is scheduled to be launched on 21 May, will be called Infinity.

The new information follows a supposed leaked image which appeared on Reddit recently, advertising the Xbox Infinity. Prior to that, the new Xbox was labelled either Xbox 720, a natural successor of the name Xbox 360, or Durango, its alleged development codename.

But sources have now revealed the console will be named Infinity and that development kits are already in the hands of studios. However, when contacted for confirmation, Microsoft said it "does not comment on rumour and speculation."

Another image which appeared on NeoGaf suggested the next Xbox would be simply called "Xbox" with Microsoft losing any numbers or subtitles, similar to Apple's naming of the latest iPad. However, a user on VG Leaks examined the picture and found the lettering was not in a straight line, implying the logo was not created by Microsoft professionals.

Other recent Xbox rumours include speculation that Respawn Games, co-founded by Modern Warfare creators Vince Zampella and Jason West, may be developing a launch title for the new console. There is also the possibility that always-online functionality, which has long been a concern to consumers looking to continue playing second-hand games, may be activated or deactivated at developers' discretion, meaning that some games will always need to be connected to the internet and some will not.

The new Call of Duty game, Call of Duty: Ghosts will also be available on the Infinity. After the launch of a short teaser trailer, the game is now set to be unveiled in full alongside the new Xbox on 21 May.

Though Microsoft has given no official word on a release date, the Infinity is expected to launch in November, 2013, to coincide with the PlayStation 4's release in the US and Asia.

The only problem is that I can already predict their marketing spiel. "The new Xbox...giving you INFINITE ways to enjoy all of your media.":edlover: Also, how weird is it going to sound when you're talking to someone about a game and they ask "So, are you getting Battlefield 4 for the PS4 or the Infinity?"
