These companies are against each other in every way but this.

It looks like a giant Smart TV box on steroids. That isn't a bad thing, btw. Video gaming is essentially an add on capability with a system these days. Its more like a huge multi-media box on 'roids.

I just feel that xbox is more enjoyable for multiplayer games. Granted some of it is because most people on xbox have a mic and most on ps3 do not plus running cross game chat in parties. The other thing that used to bother me was it would take forever to download an update that takes literally 2 minutes on xbox. Granted Sony has improved and I dont feel like it as big of an issue now as it was a few years ago. It all boils down to personal preference and I will say I prefer the xbox controller over sony but I can use both. Let me also state that I own both consoles and I feel there are good and bad about both. I enjoy my ps3 as there are games I just simply could not play that i really love that I can't get on xbox. I just really hope that Sony cleans up the PS Store and makes it more fluid moving around the menus where I dont have to wait for the system to catch up to what I am trying to look at.

Xbox One Controller Hands-on
Has Microsoft improved upon the Xbox 360's controller?

The Xbox 360 controller is commonly regarded as the greatest controller ever made, but with the introduction of the Xbox One, Microsoft is changing the formula with a new design and over 40 enhancements. Has the company managed to improve upon perfection?

Of the promised improvements, the most noticeable changes are those made to the ergonomics. The handles may appear shorter than the Xbox 360 version, but in reality the middle surface area is just wider to accomodate the new control layout and flat battery pack. The analog sticks are slightly smaller, with textured ridges and a wider range of motion. The shoulder buttons and triggers have taken on rounded, angular edges that seamlessly blend with the base of the controller. The shoulders have a great feel, though by adopting a wider surface and smooth, angular edges, they've lost a bit of tactile differentiation for the user. With time, players should be able to adapt.

Microsoft hasn't just changed the exterior, however. The triggers now have "magnetic" sensors, which Microsoft claims offers greater precision. The buttons also have a distinctive mechanical click, which some may find preferable to a traditional membrane configuration. Critics of the Xbox 360 controller's imprecise disk-shaped d-pad will be pleased to find it has been replaced with a four-way design, which, once again, Microsoft has promised will deliver more precise controls.

Unfortunately, I was unable to investigate those claims, as the company was only offering tech demos of the controller's new "impulse triggers," which place small rumble motors within the triggers themselves. Admittedly, when I first heard about the feature, I thought it was a bit gimmicky, but when Microsoft demonstrated its potential applications in games, I became more optimistic.

The company allowed attendees to try out a series of brief demos of the feedback motors, ranging from the type of sensations associated with a helicopter taking off or driving a car. The Xbox One will be capable of using both the impulse triggers and motors built into the handles to capture the rumble of an engine in your palms and bumps in the road in your fingertips. The company also discussed how the motors could create feedback unique to certain weapon types or even indicate the location of incoming hits from enemies in each corner. How developers will implement the feature into games remains to be seen.

There are plenty of other lingering questions about the Xbox One controller. The prototypes I used featured an unspecified data port where the chat cable port exists now on the Xbox 360 controller. Company representatives promised more information about its uses would come soon. There's also the new buttons that have replaced start and back, whose purpose wasn't immediately clear and Microsoft refused to elaborate on. If I were a gambling man, I would guess the buttons will open the Xbox One's multitasking view and menus contextual to whatever app or game you're running. The Xbox Home button remains, which presumably would offer quick access to the dashboard.

Overall, I was surprised how much I liked the Xbox One's controller. While the changes from the Xbox 360 controller are significant, it clearly respects the legacy and leaves its strongest qualities intact.

It is a beautiful console. It looks like Blu Ray player fucked a PS4 on top of a milk crate and gave birth to this.
It's weird that they carried over the flat square design of Metro UI to physical hardware. I wonder if Nokia helped.

Xbox One Hard Drive Can’t Be Replaced By Users
USB 3.0 port supports external storage.

Microsoft has confirmed that the Xbox One’s hard drive cannot be replaced by users.

According to Engadget, “hard drives in the Xbox One are non-user-serviceable,” though Microsoft senior director of product planning Albert Penello did confirm that the system’s USB 3.0 port will support external storage, “which can be used for everything the internal storage can be used for” (including game installs and downloads).

Xbox One was announced earlier today and includes 8GB of RAM, an 8-Core CPU, a 500GB hard drive, a Blu-Ray drive, HDMI in and out ports, USB 3.0, 802.11n wireless and more.

An interesting thing: Out of everything I've heard and read today, I haven't heard a single thing about streaming capability. They've mentioned and detailed (somewhat on the detail) the ability to capture multiple ways as well as sharing those videos, but I haven't heard a single peep about streaming. Maybe my PVR 2 wont be completely useless after all lol.

Xbox One lets you save and restart your game at any point

The Xbox One will include the ability to pause or save a game at any point without losing progress, Microsoft officials told Polygon.

"One of things that we haven't talked about is the way the saved game architecture works," said Ben Kilgore, corporate vice president of Microsoft's Interactive Entertainment Business. "It's more like a phone a little bit. So you are not going to lose your save game stuff as you are switching between tasks."

Game designers can still decide whether their games will also feature more traditional save points, Kilgore said, but all games will include the ability to stop playing a game and have it essentially save instantly.

For instance, Kilgore said, a player could stop gaming for the day, and then come back the next day and say "Xbox on" and the console is "going to bring you right back to where you were in the game."

The console also supports a universal pause command. Players can simply say "Xbox pause" and the console will pause your activity, whether you're watching a movie, listening to music or playing a game.

Earlier this year, Sony announced that the Playstation 4 would support the ability to stop and save a game at any point. Smartphones and portable gaming devices also include this feature.

Kilgore said that the console's ability to do so many different things meant they had to support the feature.

When I play multiplayer games with random on both consoles, it's a fucking ghost town of communication. Although I've actually had more luck on PS3 meeting cool people that actually use mics. On Xbox my experience has been more douchebags or no talking at all.

As for this console, it's obviously not all doom and gloom. But based on the information that we have readily available to us now the negatives seem to far outweigh the positives. Maybe some of this will change and they will announce a glut of great games at E3.

This thread has delivered a solid 40mins of reading for myself this morning and I thank you all for it. I do have to laugh though as most of the comments were to be expected with the same normal people on this site chiming in with their terrible opinions and thoughts.

Quick thing that has struck me was this quote which I don't think many people picked up on was this:

When I saw the unviel the first thing I said was that it looked like my old HTPC. This quote by one of the indie guys who were interviewed is pretty much exactly what the xbox brand is turning into. Looking at the specs as well its fairly obvious they are going the cheaper hardware route again and are banking on the fact that graphics have sort of hit a wall in terms making things look better and are hoping their limits won't be hit for a while.

I don't read gaming articles but one here's one thing I haven't seen anyone post about. What happens...if something happens to my console?

Let's say I contract the new strain of RROD(crazy idea, I know), or my Xbox gets stolen. What happens to my library of now used games? Do I have to pay extra money to use them when I get a new Xbox?
